We were on our way back from Scotland when we stopped at The George. The setting is fantastic, on the side of the river with the bridge in the background. We had a room in the courtyard which was very nice, he only downside was we were on the ground floor and it was a surprisingly warm day for our summer! Therefore we could not leave the window open as it backed onto the car park so the room was warm. We had an evening meal in the Bar and the food was excellent. One of the best Cheese Boards i've ever had! The bar is nice and got a good old fashioned atmosphere. I would like to go back in the winter as I would imagine with a roaring fire it would be fantastic. Breakfast was again very good, the young lady serving us was quite miserable though! We had a look around the rest of the hotel and I would imagine it is fantastic for a wedding reception as well. Overall we enjoyed our night and would definately return.

Room Tip: Try to get one upstairs if it is in the summer.

When we went looking for a wedding venue, we knew we wanted one with good outdoors space..praying for the sunshine on our big day, but we also wanted a country inn feel that didn't feel too intimidating. This venue definitely fulfilled all our requirements at the right price. Beth and her team were very competent and you always felt in safe hands and that you got a personal service with Beth at the helm.
My wedding guests commented on how good the food was and it was v plentiful. The suppliers recommended by the George (disco, table decorations) were very professional and there was plenty of dancing being done as Charlie got the right mix of music. My husband and I loved our bridal room (particularly the bathroom complete with double bath) and felt very pampered. We have got some great photographs helped by the amazing riverside location this venue has.

Couldn't have asked for more really and we had a wonderful day and yes the sun shined and we loved every minute. Would definitely recommend to anyone from the Teesside/Durham/N Yorkshire area to check it out for their forthcoming big day.

We were looking for a dog friendly hotel to stay whilst at a nearby dog agility show. This one came highly recommended so we booked for 3 nights. The accommodation itself was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. The room was in a separate building from the main hotel so we were insulated from any noise from the wedding party on Saturday. After a long day we were too tired to go through to the bar/restaurant for dinner so ordered room service. The food was excellent and certainly a highlight of our stay. There was a small mix-up with one of our orders and was rectified in minutes - well done! The breakfast was excellent and taken in the restaurant where you had lovely views of the river Tees and the bridge. All in all, we had an excellent stay at the George and we would recommend the hotel to anyone (esp. with canine friends)!

I already knew the George's restaraunt was a good place to eat but I tried it for Sunday lunch recently.
The dining room has a view over the River Tees; both the Sunday carvery and wine were very good. Staff friendly and polite.

The hotel was lovely, the room was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful

It was a business trip but we managed to get in some lovely early evening walks with our dog along the river. The weather was on our side and it is a truly beautiful location and extremely good value for money. We had a great stay and we will be back. I would recommend it to anybody

I was looking for somewhere a little different to celebrate our wedding anniversary - we usually dine locally to home on these occasions - and chose The George after reading the most recent Trip Advisor reviews - and taking some with a pinch of salt!!!
We booked in for one night's B&B, planning to eat in the restaurant and not have to drive home afterwards. Our room was OK, a little "dark" and in need of some 'TLC' but more than adequate, with an ample supply of complimentary in-room tea, coffee etc refreshments, including bottled water! The bathroom was also well provided with nice fresh, clean towels and a supply of bath/shower accompaniments.
Our balcony gave us a lovely view over the gardens and patio areas, which lead down to the River Tees, and we could also see the Bridge.
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. The food, although a little long in being served, was well prepared and well presented. We could not fault the quality or quantity and it was definitely worth waiting for.
The breakfast next morning was on a par with dinner in terms of quality and quantity, with a wide selection of buffet-style items - and a choice of cooked dishes from the breakfast menu.

Now for the "......shame about the bed!" bit.

We had a really enjoyable stay at The George - pleasant surroudings and views, very pleasant and helpful staff and excellent food BUT the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I/we have ever slept in!!!
Despite the aid of a 'sedative' in alcohol format!, we both had a 'discomfort' interrupted near sleepless night! Before you start thinking " sleeping and anniversary?", we are both in our mid-60's and at our ages, sleep takes priority!!!

I mentioned the bed problem to the Receptionist on checking out. She was apologetic and told me that it would 'be noted - whatever that means!

Overall, we had a pleasant experience at the The George - bed excepted! - and we would certainly recommend it - with the proviso that you check the bed to make sure that it is comfortable!!!
We would certainly eat and - more than likely - stay there again.

Room Tip: Ckeck out the bed as soon as you get to your room!
