This is a great hotel ideally situated just 50 minutes drive outside Copenhagen. Ideal for a short break or business conference (maybe a wedding too!!) The rooms are traditionally furnished with large comfortable beds. For our visit the Chef produced a comprehensive taster menu (10 courses) complimented with his recommended wine. Well worth a visit!!

Having passed this hotel a few months ago, I read something in a travel magazine about the high quality of the restaurant here, so booked a night here last weekend. The booking included afternoon tea and cake, 3 course meal in the restaurant, room and breakfast. The stay was perfect from start to end and was very indulgent and luxurious.

The hotel itself is beautiful, an old building restored with antique furniture, paintings, heavy curtains, beautiful decor throughout. It is set overlooking the fjord to one side and with a church the other side.

The meal in the restaurant rivalled many of the Michelin star restaurants I have eaten at in the UK, with imaginative, perfectly executed, delicious food coming out for each course and a wine menu to match. Service was great too. The hotel website itself says it has a gourmet restaurant but I don't think it indicates strongly enough quite how good the restaurant is. Being in the same country as Noma and with 12 Michelin star restaurants all in Copenhagen, places like this should have more recognition....not everyone wants to go to the capital for a fancy meal!

The only negative points I would mention is that the rooms, although very comfortable and beautiful, were very small. This is fine for one or two nights but I wouldn't want to stay longer and they did not represent value for money. Maybe if a few extras were present in the room eg tea/coffee, biscuits, bathrobes etc they would feel like better value. This is the only reason I have given a rating of 4 instead of 5. Also the stay came in at over £400 for 2 people for 1 night which is very expensive.... then again I wouldn't let that taint the experience because we had a great time.

The location is magnificent. First class wi-fi connection everywhere.
In the restaurant you can get high level food with a first class service, with the help of a wonderful wine list.

What I found below the expected level were the breakfast (a simple buffet in a not-so-special corner) and the value you get for your money: everything is definitely too expensive
