“Great for Families”
Reviewed September 26, 2011

We visited Staverton Park as a short stay in April and it was fantastic! - We had two rooms, one of us and one for the kids (17 & 11) and they very kindly put us very near to each other. The rooms were very nice with flat screen tv's and very clean. We stayed for 2 nights and we visited the pool 4 times! could'nt get the kids out the jaccuzzi or the steam room. Our daughter treated herself to a fish spa as well and she loved it. We didn't eat at the Staverton as the local pub the Countryman was a really good pub with delicious home cooked food - but don't try their posh menu go for the good ol' fashioned pub grub. We will be going back next April for sure and bringing more family members with us.

I went to Staverton Park recently for a weekend Golf break with five friends, and can say with certainty that we will be avoiding De Vere for any future breaks. The weekend consisted of two rounds of Golf and 1 nights stay in the hotel which included a discounted evening meal.

We had booked this weekend quite far in advance so were slightly surprised to find we had been given 2:30 tee-off times on the Saturday and the Sunday. A competition had pushed back the tee-off times of any visitors past lunchtime, and as seems to be the unfortunate case with courses like this which are part of a Spa/Golf deal, the course was far too busy to allow an enjoyable round of Golf on either day.

I have been to busy Golf courses before, but never have I had to queue with (up to) 4 groups on a tee, with the usual throughout the day being at least 2 or 3 groups. The course marshals were out but didn't really seem to be doing anything apart from the Sunday, when the message must have started getting through from irate players complaining of slow play.

I have never seen people walking off the course in frustration at the speed of play before, nor have run out of time on a course, finishing the Saturday round in the dark.

I'm sorry but If I get given a tee-time, whatever that may be I should reasonably expect to be able to finish the round before nightfall. The fact that there was a competition on before us is fine, but we weren't informed of this until we arrived so had no choice but to accept the late start. We did manage to get an earlier tee -off time on the Sunday, but still only just managed to finish the round in time.

It is such a massive shame as the course is beautiful.

The hotel is what you'd expect from a conference hotel; comfortable, clean rooms, nothing fancy. Hotel staff were all very helpful and friendly. But the food was AWFUL.

Food sat for god knows how long under heat lamps. Including steak.... Dried out Chicken stir fry that tasted of absolutely nothing. I mean absolutely nothing. Just how bad the food was I find difficult to adequately put into words. It was really bad.

Other De Vere hotels may be better but if you have an alternative to Staverton Park, take it.

Many thanks for your review, we at Staverton Park embrace feedback good or bad.

The buffet service we sometimes operate in our restaurant is possibly the most popular type of service we offer. The comments we receive are almost without exception very positive. Our guests have told us that they like the style because they can see what they are getting and eliminates the guess work of the menu's interpretation of a dish. We do refresh the buffet frequently which is more often than not being cooked in front of the guests in our theatre style kitchen.I'm sorry if this was not to your liking.

At Staverton Park we operate an eight minute tee off buffer between each group, this is generous in comparison with some other courses and it is in line with the English Golf Union. Our wonderful championship course is very popular and is played by all handicaps, sometimes a few of the players need a little longer to play their shots and this results in a slow round. The marshalls we employ are very experienced golfers and will push people along when they feel it necessary however, hassling people is not what we do. I apologise if the round took longer than expected and I am pleased we was able to offer an earlier tee time the following day.

I am disappointed that you will not be using DeVere again, the vast majority of our guests thoroughly enjoy Staverton park and the DeVere portfolio of golf courses. Once again I apologise for not exceeding your expectations.

We only went for an overnight stay as part of an activity weekend. We wanted a spa and a comfortable room and a good breakfast. This ticked all boxes, and at a bargain price. The staff were amazingly helpful, we arrived at around 7ish on the Saturday night and the receptionist was very apologetic that the jacuzzi wasn't working, but rang the leisure centre to check everything else was.
After a lovely swim and relaxing use of the spa (whose staff were also above excellent) we would usually have a meal in the room, as we walked past the restaurant to check out the menu, a waitress tempted us in to check out the buffet, we were so impressed we booked a table and went back to get ready for dinner. Buffet starters were of superb quality, lots of fresh fish, cooked chicken, salads, breads, soups etc, the main course was also well done with a good range of choices from indian to honey roast pork. We couldn't manage a desert but could see that they had a very good range also. Breakfast was also exemplary, with quality ingredients. The room was adequate, bed very comfortable, however the only bad points are: the room could have been cleaner, the basics were clean but there were a lot of cobwebs in the corners of the ceilings, and the back of the bathroom door was streaked and splattered. Also, although there is free tea and coffee in the reception area, along with fresh fruit there is none in the rooms. I would prefer a coffee when I get up, whilst showering adn getting ready for breakfast and this did put me off coming back.

Room Tip: We booked last minute but if I had a choice I'd book one nearer the leisure centre as it's q...

Many thanks for your comments, I am really pleased that you enjoyed your stay. I apologise about the cobwebs (which I will be discussing with the head housekeeper).

There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room however we hide them in the wardrobe. We do this because most of our guests are explorers and they discover them whilst examining their bedroom in the greatest detail. Not really, we feel they clutter ther room if they are left out.

I'm also very happy that you feel DeVere at Staverton Park is a bargain.

We went as a party of 7 ladies on a weekend golf break. Golf course is beautiful and golf staff very obliging. Hotel staff totally different.- very impersonal and unfriendly. Bar was closed at 12 30am to all residents even though there were lots of people still in bar. Hotel itself is very pleasant and comfortable BUT Food was very poor. It was like school canteen setting and it was all buffet style. Most of it was tepid and over cooked. Make your own burgers consisted of dried bread, rock hard 'burgers' and congealed cheese! Food put out at start of evening meal and left out all evening so go in for dinner early if you want anything even slightly appetising. We went in at approx 9.00pm (serves until 9.30) and all of us were totally appalled at the standard for a De Vere hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms are very comfortable but avoid front of hotel as it is very noisy

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, we at Staverton park value your comments.

I am sorry that you didn't like the buffet style service we sometimes operate, the vast majority of our guests prefer it (especially golf groups) as it eliminates any confusion between the desciption on the menu and what is actually served. The buffet is frequently refreshed which is normally being cooked by our chefs in the theatre stlye kitchen which forms part of the restaurant. The build your own burgers theme for that night was designed to enable our guests to have exactly what they wanted and have a little fun doing so, I apologise if this was not for you.

I have no idea why the bar would close at 12.30am if there were still guests wanting drinks, I will be investigating the reason why.

On the bright side I am delighted that you like the golf course and its facilities. Should you return to Staverton park maybe we could interest you in one of our private dining rooms where your room would be exclusive to you with a menu of your choice

Many thanks

This is a functional conference hotel with good spa facilities. Location is poor for public transport - you need a car to get there. Local pub called the Countryman is worth a visit

We stayed here for one night before an event at Silverstone the next day. We arrived early evening and wen we got to our room, the key didn't work and it was obvious there was someone in there so we had to walk back to reception and ask for another room, the receptionist as very apologetic. We were given a room in the 'basement' it was very modern, nice bathroom and flat screen tv but quite dark.
There were two weddings at the hotel that weekend so it was very busy and they had a buffet in the restaurant as I guess they couldn't cope with a menu service with so many people....we don't really like buffet's and queing up for food and we were loking forward to a nice meal so we were a bit disappointed. There were no seats in the bar/lounge so we went to our room.
We didn't have breakfast as this was arranged at Silverstone so we left early. Overall for the £44.00 we paid (special offer on their website) it ws excellent value, the outside surroundings are very nice.

Thanks very much for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the challenge with your rooms, which will be looked into by our Front of House Manager, but am glad we were able to offer you one of our luxurious Signature Rooms as an alternative. Staverton Park is located on the side of a hill so some of our rooms are on the lower ground floor. All of these rooms have full natural daylight and are beautifully appointed.

I appreciate that a buffet style offering can sometimes not be to everyone's preference (although highly popular with a great number of our guests) however we do have other menu's available that would suit your needs on such evenings. I'm sorry that it appears this was not pointed out to you. Either way we can guarantee a wide variety of delicious food at every meal time.

I am glad that you felt your stay was excellent value and you enjoyed staying in the surroundings of our Championship Golf Course in the rolling Northamptonshire countryside. We really hope we see you again and am sure you will have another great experience.
