“Reputation Deserved”

Whether you consider the food or the price this restaurant
worth a visit. French is a benefit but the owners helped
us through the menu and wine list easily. A very proper
Normandy dining experience

“Country cooking done 'just so'”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

This was a delightful Sunday lunch near the end of a week staying and touring in rural Normandy. The small dining room is elegantly laid out With a name like this we just had to have duck, and chose the La Sauvageon menu at 52 euros once it was explained that this meant 'young duck' and that there were two stages to the main course - grilled breast with vegetables, then the cuisse with salad. The wine list is mostly Bordeaux, ranging up from entry level wines around 20 euros, although we were very happy to pay a bit over double that for a very drinkable 'second label' St Julien.

The salad of homard bleu and my house made duck foie gras were excellent starters. Then the two duck courses were very well executed. The breast rare, tender and succulent; the cuisse more well done in the oven, I think. It was very instructive to taste the cuts separately and appreciate the differences. Cheese - well, of course. It is Normandy after all. And this Camembert was superbly earthy. Dessert of Soufflé Calvados was outstanding - high, light and strongly flavoured of the apple spirit.

Everything from the kitchen was extremely well executed, and the service faultless - an experience to suggest regional French cooking is in good hands, at least in this little place.

“Just perfect !”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

This restaurant is just perfect.
We are regular clients and each visit of Mr. and Mrs. Tricot's restaurant delighted us.
Everything is sublime, the decoration (17th century Normande house with a fire wood), the service is perfect, the food quality and the taste are amazing while remaining humble. The price (about 130€ for two with the wine, for a large dinner: appetizer - main course - salad - cheese and dessert) for this quality is also very good because this restaurant deserves to have a one star Michelin. The cellar is fantastic. Do not hesitate to seek advice from Madame Tricot, her choice is always fantastic and not the most expensive.
If you go to Orbec (and just for it you should) you must go and enjoy le Caneton
