“Wedded Bliss”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

We got married at Cap Maison in April. It was amazing. We decided on Cap Maison because we were looking for a room with a private pool. There are not a lot of accomodations that match that in the Caribbean and neither my husband or I had been to St Lucia previously. I have so much to say about this tremendous experience!
First of all, it is about a 1.5 hour drive from the airport to the hotel. We entertained the idea of doing the helicopter but found out that your bags cannot accompany you on the helicopter, they have to be brought by car and that you still have to be dropped off at the smaller airport, which is about 20 mins from the hotel, so it seemed to defeat the purpose. The roads are incredibly curvy and stop/go and unfortunately I was feeling incredibly carsick by the time we reached the hotel. If you are prone to motion sickness I highly recommend taking something before the airport transfer! We were met at reception with cold towels and cold drinks and shown to our room. We stayed in a 1 BR with rooftop terrace and pool. The room had 1.5 bathrooms, full kitchen, and washer/dryer. The only negative thing I can say about the room is that it is ONLY air conditioned in the bedroom. This was not a problem for us as we spent minimal time in the living room or dining area inside so it was not a bother, but the living space gets VERY warm. The bedroom and master bath were beautiful! Our main living space was on the second floor and then a spiral staircase up to the rooftop. Our second floor had a full balcony/terrace with dining table and rockers where we enjoyed our coffee every morning and even had dinner one evening. The rooftop terrace was more than we had hoped for. Wet bar, dining table (where we had room service one evening), several comfortable cushioned loungers, umbrella, and plunge pool. We were towards the back of the resort, which limited our view from the second floor somewhat but our view from the rooftop was great. It may not have been the best view you can achieve from a rooftop suite but it was away from the restaurant and the resort pools so it was very quiet and peaceful.

Since we had our own private pool we only ventured down to the beach once. If you are beach people it may not be the resort for you. There are many steps down to the beach, and it is a steep climb up the stairs on your way up. The beach is very small but the water is beautiful and there is a beach bar!

The kitchen was helpful, we went to a grocery store in town and got the essentials. The restaurant at the hotel is beautiful, right over the water. The only downfall is it is french cuisine, which is very rich and not easy to eat night after night. We are "lazy" vacationers and were not looking to venture out often for meals, etc so by the end of the trip the food was only so so based on selection.

We golfed at the local golf course (can't remember the name) and they even sent a shuttle from the golf course to pick us up free of charge, it's very close and they have a great restaurant at the club house for lunch - golf course was decent, we were there in the dry season but it was worth it!

The hotel spa was good - not amazing, but very good. We did massage as well as manicures and I got a salt scrub. The spa techs were very talented and pleasant. Like I said, we got married at the resort, at the gazebo, and everything was so smooth. We worked closely with Dey, and I can't say enough wonderful things about her. From the flowers, to scheduling me a hair appt, to being our witness she was so accomodating and made everything so stress free. We truly appreciated all she did for us!

If you are going to visit this resort...splurge and treat yourself to a room with either a private pool or a rooftop pool, it will be a vacation of a lifetime!

This was the first hotel that we stayed in that did not match the comments on tripadvisor.
My wife and I have been using this site for many years to plan our trips and the reviews had always matched our experiences
This hotel had a lot of extremely positive reviews so my wife decided to stay there instead of jade.
Positives:
-Gorgeous rooms
-Gorgeous views

Negatives
-Not worth 700/night when compared to other places we have stayed in Aruba,Mexico......
-Poor service (some staffers looked like they did not want to be there)
-Food was horrible at best
-Pools not heated

Thank you for taking the time to post your review following your stay with us

I am very pleased that you found our accommodation and views to be gorgeous and we are blessed with a great location

Comments on food are very subjective and clearly our restaurant did not appeal to your taste – food and service are generally where we receive the most praise and are certainly key to our ongoing success.

We find that as we have an average annual temperature that does not fall below 30 degrees Celsius (87 degrees Fahrenheit), guests enjoy cooling off in the pools and heating is typically not an issue

As to comments on the pricing, we do regularly benchmark our prices against other similar properties in the Caribbean region and feedback is normally that our pricing is in line. However, some Caribbean islands, especially within the Spanish Caribbean, have lower cost bases and may therefore be cheaper at times.

We stayed at Cap Maison about 5 days in the summer. It was probably the nicest hotel accommodations I've ever stayed in. Our room was reminiscent of a town house with full kitchen, washer dryer, living room, porch to eat breakfast on, and balcony with Jacuzzi. The grounds are beautiful and a few steps away is a private beach with hanging hammock, lounge chairs, and free rental equipment. The waves weren't too rough and you could easily take a dip to cool off from the sun. Towels and drinks were also available beachside.

This is a fairly small resort though. There is only 1 main restaurant for dinner and breakfast. You can get lunch pool side, which is also on the smaller side, but was fine for the number of people whilst we were there. It's location is pretty remote, on the far north side of the island. We took a helicopter to get there and a 2 hour or so cab ride to get back to the airport.

You can get a cab to take you into town and pick up groceries or alcohol if you have kitchen in your room, or to a restaurant in the near by town.

Overall I really enjoyed the stay at Cap Maison. I don't think I could do it for more than 5 days but if I had to lay on a beach anywhere this would be a top choice.

Room Tip: Duplex apartments highly recommended

After our recent 10 day stay at Cap Maison we can definitely echo all of the positive comments we had read on TripAdvisor prior to making our booking. The Cap Maison resort has beautiful grounds, walkways, plants and trees where we saw many Hummingbirds feed. The staff are extremely friendly, efficient and noticeably discreet in their duties. For this particular vacation we were looking for peace and quiet which the villa layouts provided allowing us to be as private as we wanted.
We experienced one of the ocean view villa suites with a pool and roof terrace which truly reflected the advertising and photographs on the CM website. A comfortable bed, ice maker, chilled filtered water dispenser, two fridges, rocking chairs, breakfast served on our patio and superb views made the suite special.
The beach area has a great atmosphere with a small bar/lunch area made very welcoming by the ‘one man band’ Craig, who pushed out boats, poured drinks and run the 60+ stairs to the hotel again and again. Be aware that there is seating for just 20 people at the bar and associated tables which proved difficult for the 30+ guests that arrived for the CM advertised BBQ night. Ross the general manager may challenge us, but after 10 days we left CM with the impression that the beach bar and grill doesn’t get the support it needs.
The lunch menu is limited and was repeated each day we were there and although Lobster was featured on the chalk board menu, it didn’t make an appearance in the ten days.
Our dinners, all seven of them, at the Cliff restaurant were really very good and complimented by the great staff. A special mention for Maggie, Keagan, Chris and Robinson who were efficient and made sure we enjoyed our evenings.
For info, each evening we had a cocktail, a bottle of wine with our meal, mostly no dessert or coffee, at an average cost of $200 US. A gin and tonic was $15, a martini S15 and a small beer $7, all US. Each drink or meal had 18% added for tax and what was listed as a 10% service charge, which we were told didn’t actually go to the servers, prompting us to leave something more. We might be challenged again 
We smiled at previous comments regarding room service and the disappearing towels, but it’s true and nearly caught us out a couple of times, but never a problem, we were on holiday after all.
Our transportation (cars and helicopter) arranged by CM was faultless and for those in doubt about a ride across St Lucia by helicopter, our first time flight was comfortable and memorable, with no white knuckles.
For local trips into Rodney Bay and Castries we used Cuthbert taxi service at 758 715 830. We have mentioned Cuthbert as he proved an invaluable guide, a very good driver and on two occasions waited close by while we shopped, banked and wandered the streets for the Jump night at Gross Islet.
We are looking forward to booking another trip to CM very soon.

We stayed at Cap Maison for the first three days of our Peak to Beach package and then went to Ladera. Apparently most people do the package in reverse but we were happy with our choice to start at Cap Maison and did a "beach to peak". Our room was a suite, amazing and luxurious. The comfortable chairs on the porch were shaded which was perfect for me as I cannot really sit in the sun. I think the lower level rooms are like this and the upper level ones have a roof deck. We went in the plunge pool every day. Restaurant view was amazing, food good (all included in our package). We enjoyed a snorkle at the beach and used the double kayak once as well. We planned to take the Hobie Cat out but timing did not work out for us as it was being used and then we got lazy later on! Who could resist just sitting with the view and playing cards. Wonderful spa too. We made a great decision and booked "Jus Sail" for an afternoon of sailing downwind for our transfer to Ladera Resort. It was expensive but better than two hours in a taxi on a mountainous road as we planned to go sailing anyway. Jus Sail was great and we recommend them for the transfer or a day sail if you are staying at Cap Maison as they are based in Rodney Bay Marina close by.

Room Tip: If a lower level or upper level room makes a difference to you... ask! There are only two levels...

My wife and I were married in August of 2010 and stayed at the Cap Maison in January of 2011. The extremely long delay in posting a review is only a reflection of my inattentiveness - not of the quality of our stay.

Every detail of our time at Cap Maison was picture perfect. On our arrival, we were greeted with glasses of chilled champagne. As we enjoyed our drinks we took a stroll of the grounds which are neatly maintained and truly stunning. As you walk around you begin to understand the great balance this place provides between the luxury and comfort of a large scale resort and the cozy, approachable feel of a beach side villa.

Our villa was beautiful, comfortable, and attended to perfectly. Breakfast in bed each morning was a welcome treat and the housekeeping staff were always friendly and eager to accommodate any requests.

There are two pools, not far away from one another, but each providing a different experience. The main pool is right next to the bar and the Cliff at Cap restaurant and has poolside drink and snack service. This pool is better situated if you want to get some sun and enjoy the view off the cliff. The other one, slightly more secluded and quiet, provides a true escape. Maybe we were just lucky to spend a morning at this pool when no one else was there, but especially after a night of one too many drinks, this was the perfect place to tune out and just relaaaaaax.

The beach could not be more perfect - small, private, and gorgeous, it is everything a small island hideaway should be. There are various water sports available and the friendly staff (whose names I could remember if I would have written this two years ago when it happened) are on hand to help you with any tips or instructions you need. Ice cold Piton is served at the beach side bar, along with simple snacks like sandwiches. If I had to point out a minor flaw it would be the snacks served at the beach side bar - they are just so-so.

The Cliff at Cap is a delicious restaurant which does not spare any effort or quality in its ingredients, service, preparation, and tastiness. It is, however, your only choice at this resort. If you wanted a slightly more casual atmosphere for lunch, or if you just wanted something a little different, you'd be in a bind. But that is really just nitpicking. Especially because Rodney Bay is not far away and offers several nice options for authentic and tasty local fare, which we always enjoy exploring.

A few tips: (1) Don't miss the jump up - a local street party which is a really great experience, as long as you don't stay too late at night and play it smart and safe. (2) Don't leave without trying St. Lucian spiced rum - yes, it looks and tastes like grenadine because there's lots of grenadine in there. Just do it and thank me later. (3) Most importantly - immediately upon your arrival ask for insect repellent coils and for a mosquito net. This is something that should come automatically with the rooms without having to ask, for how eaten alive we got the first day or two.

Thank you very much for remembering to post your review following your stay with us in January 2011 - out of sight but not out of mind - that's nice!!

Just a quick follow up to mention that we now have a simple Bar B Que style lunch on the beach which has helped in providing variety for lunch on the beach and Dunstan and Craig are still there to look after guests

We have also added mosquito repellent in rooms just in case those pesky critters are around - and bi weekly garden spraying takes place - mosquitoes tend to more prevalent in the rainy season but through preventative controls we can keep them at bay

Thanks again for choosing to stay with us

With kind regards

Ross

We could not praise this place more. The location is excellent, covering a cliff with 180 degree views of the sea as well as Martinique. The resort itself is perfect size in my view, not too big or too small.

While we had our own pool. we spent most of the time at the main one as well as at the semi-private beach. The beach have good snorkeling (equipment provided) and free use of Kayaks and a Hobie Cat which we made good use of. All overseen by the very guys at the little beach bar (special mention to Craig who took great care of us). The Wednesday evening barbecue was a great event and on several occasion did we enjoy a private late night swim at the secluded beach in the moonlight. Great memories.

The room (villa suite) was absolutely huge. I don't really see the point of having a kitchen in the room though, since the restaurant is extremely good (we were on all inclusive and had all meals there). There is only AC in the living room which did not bother us but could be worth noting for others. While I personally enjoy more W style contemporary design the Spanish style worked just fine. Beds are very comfortable and the bathroom again huge and not missing anything (including outdoor shower option).

We have a complimentary massage at the SPA, which was very professional. Not much more at the SPA though as I could see (steam room etc) but I could be wrong. The gym is pretty good, with both machines and some free weights.

The staff was all around top notch, service minded and very friendly. Especially Imran, who after discussing local music one night turned up with a custom CD from a record shop! I could not thank him enough, my kids back home love it btw!

I very rarely return to the same place twice, there is too much to see in the world. But with Cap Maison I am prepared to make an exception, and recommend it warmly to anyone looking for a great and relaxing vacation.

Room Tip: Make sure you get some sea view, I understood some of the rooms in the back are less spectacular.

Thank you very much for posting your review and I am delighted that you enjoyed your vacation spent with us at Cap Maison

A great overview of your experience including your midnight swims!!

Both Craig and Imran were delighted to read your comments and well done to Imran with the music CD!!

I would just like to correct one point which I think was just a slip of the cursor - the AC in villa suites is within bedrooms and not living rooms

To make an exception to return to Cap Maison given that you never repeat hotels is fantastic news and we look forward to your return

With kind regards
