“Chips to die for”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

Stayed here twice ate here the first time but will be back again. Food was lovely chips were the best ever. I had soul and the husband had a burger, the cheese board was plenty big enough for 2. Fab food, reasonable wine - prefer to The Swan. Only gripe £2.50 for an ok mid morning coffee - really..... maybe Pumpkins should open on Sundays.

Thank you for such a nice review. We hope to see you again.
We did get our local coffee supplier to check our machine over and he did make some slight adjustments so hopefully this will improve the coffee!
Thank you.

“Disaaster daarling”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

We were a party of 18, we had booked and were asked to make our menu choices, which we duly did a couple of days beforehand. When we arrived we were told we had been given the wrong menu to choose from and some of our choices were not on the correct menu, so we had to order something different! The wait was interminable, and when our meals were served the poor waitresses had not been told by the kitchen, what they were serving. It was a complete shambles and one our group will not accept lightly. We were so looking forward to visiting this establishment but it will not be seeing our business in the future

We are very sorry that your visit was not up to the standard expected.
The menu was messed about with which I agree is not acceptable and steps have been taken to ensure it does not re occur.
I have given a more detailed response to the review by one of your fellow diners and respectfully refer you to that. A number of steps were taken at the time to try to make up for the issue which are fairly and kindly mentioned in the other review but sadly not in yours thus giving a somewhat one sided account.

“Good food amongst disorganised chaos”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

A group of 18, booked in advance, ate here on a November Wednesday evening. Having accepted the booking without query, two days before we were due to go the hotel Emailed the organiser to ask if the food choices could be made beforehand to make things easier in the kitchen. It transpired that there was another group in the hotel that evening and the eating areas were full. Fair enough - choices were dispatched and we arrived at 19:30 for a 20:00 kick-off. The car park was full so most of our group had to park on the street; I parked in one of the village car parks and walked up. We ordered drinks but had a wait as one barmaid was trying to serve two bars connected by a staircase. We duly sat down and the waitress appeared and informed us of various changes to the main courses, the menu had been changed and 3 dishes were unavailable affecting at least 6 of us. I had ordered tuna and mozzarella fishcakes, but had haddock and spring onion ones instead. The two young waitresses tried valiantly to serve as quickly as they could, but people had to start eating as their food was cooling instead of waiting for us all to be served; the lack of space around the table made it impossible for them to move round it efficiently. I had salad with the fishcakes and a very astringent tartar sauce; there were 3 different types of potatoes and 2 dishes of vegetables to share amongst the group, but fewer serving spoons than dishes. The fishcakes were okay but I could not discern much obvious fish in them. So...onto desserts, again the waitress appeared to say that the bakewell tart was not available. The person, who had to choose another dish, chose the cheeseboard, normally more expensive, but was given it for the same price as the other desserts. I used the opportunity to change my original order to panna cotta – a good choice, the panna cotta was delicious, the spiced plums a perfect foil, and both served with a smooth and rich vanilla ice-cream. One of our number ended up with a free dessert, as one extra brownie and mint ice-cream was prepared and not needed. As it was quite late by then (after 22.00) we ordered coffee when the desserts came and, because of the mess up, were given them free of charge. Coffee was served with warm, frothy milk and a caramel biscuit. Comments I heard from some of the group as we were leaving – ‘won’t bother coming again’, ‘will make sure it’s not busy next time’, why did we bother to make a choice when the menu was altered only 2 days later’ (I had to agree with that one). As I left a saw a blackboard advertising for staff. It’s a shame that it was disorganised chaos, as the waitresses tried their best, the candles in the room contributed to a good ambiance, but the room was cold by the end of the evening, particularly under the tables. My fishcakes and panna cotta came to £19, without any drinks; compared with other places in Somerset (excluding Wedmore) that is a little expensive.
It may be worth trying at lunchtime…

Many thanks for your review.
I feel that your comments as an overview are very fair and apologise that the standards were not quite where they should have been.
As you mention we were very busy and short staffed. We have recognised that the offering is diminished by the lack of a "figure head" to lead and assist the staff and to this effect have now employed a very experienced management couple who will be starting with us in a week.
There does seem to have been something of a mess up with the pre ordering and I fully accept it seemed a little pointless if changes were then made at our end. This has been bought to the attention of the kitchen and will not happen again.
I appreciate this does not really help you but I am glad that you realise we did what we could to make up for the chaos!
If you would like to re visit please contact us directly and the meal will be on the house for you and your guest.

“Review”
Reviewed November 13, 2013 via mobile

Quiet drink in a lovely pub with, what looked like, really good food. Unfortunately saw an exchange between the Manager/Owner and and I think a 'Mum' of one of the bar staff, she had come to collect some owed money and was subjected to a lot of finger pointing and aggressive behaviour and language, unacceptable in any situation. Left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I am sorry if the incident you refer to caused you any offence however after a lot of investigating it does not appear to be a true representation of events. It should also be noted that the lady in question had a similar incident in the village store and was subsequently no longer allowed in!
Thanks for your positive comments, and apologies again as you shouldn't in any case, have had to see any type of dispute when visiting us.

“So good we visited twice”
Reviewed November 12, 2013

Ate here twice in three days and were very pleased with both the service and the food both times. Saturday we ate in the main restaurant and had superb 'specials' of vegi tarte tatin and pheasant casserole followed by a stunning sticky toffee pud.
Monday we ate in the bar as the restaurant was empty and quiet and we still enjoyed excellent food. The two courses for £14 was good value but the Haddock and Chips was pricey at £13. However said chips were amazing!
