“You will never want to leave”

After a long flight from Boston, I was warmly greeted by hosts John and Cynthia Hayes at Amamoor Lodge in the beautiful Mary Valley, QLD. The setting is scenic bush and the air is constantly punctuated by the rich calls of native bird life. I stayed in the B&B in a renovated timber lined room (with ensuite) that was original to the house and from the days of the Cobb & Co Coaches (John has a replica coach that is in use regularly). There are also lovely adjacent new motel style units for those not requiring meals. Do yourself a favor and stay in the B&B. Cynthia and John's cooking is absolutely out of this world - authentically Australian with international appeal with only the freshest ingredients. A group of Japanese guests were so impressed that they photographed every meal! It is beyond relaxing to sit by the open fire in a rocking chair at the end of the day, out near John's shed, with a glass of wine in hand, while John prepares a starter for the evening meal. John cooked the best steak I've eaten in years over that fire. The property was pristine clean and my bed may well have been the most comfortable that I've ever slept in. I stayed for 3 nights but wished it could have been a lot longer. My accommodation was arranged by Olympian Alex Watson's "Equathon" horse riding tours. Equathon are repeat customers at Amamoor Lodge for a reason!

We stayed one night on our way back to Brisbane & we wished we stayed longer! Was so peaceful & beautiful. The owner even arranged a horseback ride for us when we arrived for that afternoon. If we ever go back to Australia-- we would center it around staying here again for sure, for much longer than a night! Would recommend this to anyone even going near this area ;-)

John and Cynthia Hayes are the most gracious hosts. We were greeted warmly, given a tour of the home and made to feel at "home" in the very first minutes. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect of this B&B fincluding the workmanship of the home, the decor, the cleanliness, the food and the fun. We also learned a great deal not only about the local culture but the country of Australia. Our only regret is that we live on the other side of the world and a return visit won't be possible any time soon.

We stayed at Amamoor Lodge B&B with 2 other couples for a Murder Mystery weekend. The hosts (Cynthia & John) led us through the murder mystery to enjoy a night full of laughter and scrumptious food.

We knew our characters ahead of time and were able to put together some costumes and Cynthia & John supplied some props as well.

We also got to ride in their Cob & Co coach down to the Valley Rattler and caught the steam train into Gympie to sight see. The hosts even dressed in period costume.

The accomodation was very comfortable and Cynthia & John very hospitable. We had a great weekend, full of fun and great food. We certainly will visit again.

From the moment we arrived at the Amamoor Lodge B&B we felt welcome and very much at home. Our hosts John and Cynthia were busy in the kitchen preparing our 'feast' for dinner. All meals are home made and Cynthia makes the best Lemon Meringue Pie! We took a leisurely stroll through the bushland on their property before enjoying a relaxing drink on the balcony overlooking the valley at dusk. John had 2 enormous fires going and the ambiance set the tone for our stay. Our room was huge with wonderful 'homely' touches from hand made quilts and furnishings to the chocolates for a night time snack. Everything was catered for and it is one of the best weekend breaks I have had. My husband who travels extensively, was totally relaxed and we will return for some more country hospitality in a wonderful 'homely' setting.
