This is a really fascinating Kasbah with a rich and interesting history. Although much of it is in ruins the parts that have been preserved are well worth the journey. What really made this visit was the excellent tour given by the Kasbah's guide Rashid. He is such a gracious and hospitable man and was so interesting. Not only did he tell us a great deal about the Kasbah but we also learnt so much from him about the region and life both in the High Atlas and the desert. The road from the Tizzi n'Tikka pass is very poor but we managed it in our Renault Kangoo. If you are planning to continue on to Ait Benhaddou then be mindful that the road continues to be very poor for a further 11km until you reach the village of Anguelz. However it's worth persisting with because after that it improves dramatically and is a very good road from there all the way to Ait Benhaddou and beyond.

As we visited it 20 years ago with my wife, we were baffled by the "past grandeur" of this former centre of power left in a dire state by the Moroccon authorities (the Glaoui opposed King Mohamed V's surge for independence and allied with former colonial ruler, France, which the latter Rabat governement still resent, hence the sorrow state of this place) and the wonderful stork "ballets" in the sky.
On our second visit in May 2013, most storks had left for Europe or just for hunting, as few are staying for the Summer in Telouet.
Fortunately, the palace has been given few efforts to restore its past beauty and we were impressed by the beautifull Glaoui rooms even if, obviously, the place needs further care and restoration. Definitely a must visit place when crossing the Tizin Tiscshka towards "le Grand Sud".

We went to this ksar instead of Ait Ben Haddou, and we only met a few other turists which is a pity cause this ksar is really beautiful with the original decorations inside. The contrast between the "ruin" outside and the decoratings inside was fascinating. The view from the ksar was also excellent. We were very happy to have visited this place.

Take your time and visit the inside of this Kasbah. It is more impressive than the Bahia palace. We went into it with a guide, and it was very interesting and fascinating. Highly recommended. The road to Telouet and the Kasbah is small, but the landscape is wonderful.
