Tampat Do Aman Jungle Camp
Certificate of Excellence

We heard about Tampat Do Aman from word of mouth and decided to go for two days. Two days that quickly turned into a week of hanging out at Tip top, snorkelling on healthy coral, relaxing on the beach, some jungle walking and meeting other like-minded travellers. Howard and Lorena are legends who work had to keep their guests happy. I recommend you go out of your way to stay at this gem on the beach.

Get away from the tourist trail .why come to Borneo just to stay with the pack.
when in Kudat I tried to go up to the islands north of kudat but on arrival
was very disappointed with accom, basic which is what you would expect but damp and dirty for which there is no excuse.
Then I got in touch with Howard at Tampat Do Aman and he possibly saved my partner from bailing out of the itinerary I had roughed out but admittedly was a bit in tatters.
He picked us up from our digs in Kudat and we headed out to the Tip of Borneo where he had constructed a longhouse with about 10 separate double rooms also smaller single huts in the gardens again basic but clean and fresh.
Newer chalet style posher stuff coming soon
This is set in the jungle away from the heat and nightly toad chorous on the beach but with shuttle to the beach bar at the tip (cape) of Borneo. The beach here is long white and practically
deserted, good grub at the bar too!
The staff at the jungle camp and on the beach helped sort out any trips you may want in the area
and Howard gave us a lift to Kudat airport This flight is to be highly recommended going back to KK or over to Sepilok

Room Tip: Go on web site to make sure this is for you a bit basic

Our last night in a KK backpacking Lodge we accidentally found out about this lodge. Since we had some spare days in our 3 weeks holiday we contacted Howard and the next day we were looking at some AMAZING beaches sitting at his Tip Top restaurant and looking at the sunset :-)

Eventually we ended up staying for 4 nights and we didn't regret it for even 1 minute! Howard showed us alot of hidden beaches, we mtb-ed down the road, went for a swim a few times and had an interesting Jungle walk through his preservation domain.

We stayed at his eco-build resort 1.5km inland. Which has still alot room for improvement and can be a problem if you really want some luxury. Personally we found the experience, hospitability and friendlyness the best ever!!!

1 remark: dont bother the wifi connection @ the resto since it's near non-existant. Better to plan & book your flight out (to Sandakan) on Monday or Thursday. Eventually we managed to book our flight but it caused us some extra sorrows.

Fantastic environment that gave us exactly what we wanted for a Borneo trip, we planned for 2 days and ended up staying for 6! We rented all of our activity equipment and kayaked, snorkeled, rode their mountain bikes, took a tour on their motorbike, and went on a guided trek into the jungle.

Amazingly beautiful beach is practically empty, save for a few friendly locals. The lodging is about a mile away from the beach, restaurant, lounge area, but there are shuttles pretty much whenever you want.

The owners are very VERY hands-on and incredibly friendly and helpful. You'll end up on a first name basis with Howard, who goes out of his way to help his guests in any way possible.

Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Had high hopes for Tampat Do Aman and Howards eco-land and good lord did they exceed expectations. We initially planned to stay for just one night but within seconds of arriving we quickly extended to our max staying ability of 3 nights, giving us 4 days in heaven.
Howard is the most helpful and friendliest host you will ever meet, ferrying us back and forth to the longhouse and beach, helping to cook amazing breakfasts, and generally meeting every need you could possibly have. His laid back attitude is exactly what is needed for this trip and rubs off on the guests, whilst still being attentive where needed.
The longhouse is beautiful and comfortable enough, and incredibly cheap for the experience of staying in the jungle. One of the highlights has got to be the showers under the stars and watching the sunrise over the paddy fields. We also appreciated the constant supply of toilet paper in the compost toilets, which are no where near as bad as you would expect.
The beach and restaurant are the best place on earth, we were so over excited by how lovely it was and still can't believe our luck that we managed to find this place. By far the most stunning unspoilt beaches in the whole of Sabah.
Howards beach Tip Top restaurant gives the ideal opportunity to meet new and exciting people as well as supplying amazing range of food including locally sourced cheddar for the burgers and homemade Oreo cheesecake, get some ASAP.
Hired bikes and explored the surrounding stunning beaches and did some good snorkelling as well as an easy walk to the Tip of Borneo, plenty to keep you occupied. Rainforest treks, hiring body boards, and kayaks also available, we just didnt have time!!!!!
We really can not thank Howard enough for setting up this amazing opportunity and are so so pleased we stayed here. Recommended to all. And looking forward to seeing what you've done with the place when we WILL return.

It's hard to put in words the real atmosphere of this place. Howard's idea of seeting up Tampat Do Aman is the best gift for tired travelers that Borneo can offer. Not only is it a peaceful natural resort where you can enjoy a shower under asteroid sky looking on the palm trees but also, sometimes so far away from home, feel like you are in one :) Howard and his crew treats you like a member of their "family", calling you by name, smiling and chatting everytime you are around. The menu is a masterpiece!! The beach, sand and water...well just COME and you will fall in love!

stayed for just 2 nights with my wife and 6 year old daughter. Howard and Lorena definitely love what they do. Good food, tons of activities abound, and one can't ask for better hosts.

While accommodations are far from the beach, we don't mind staying at the restaurant all day. Howard shuttles the guests on his truck on regular intervals. We were offered 2 rooms, but opted to stay in just 1 as we find the rooms already adequate for us. Showers were great, and the toilets are clean. My daughter loved the cats and can't get enough of them!

We've traveled extensively in the Philippines, and I can say that the beach in Kudat is definitely one of the best. Safe for kids, with no corals or sharp shells to get cut. Being a pristine beach, there are sand flies on the southern end, but is manageable (sunblock, mosquito spray is a must).

While it is a 3 hour ride away from KK, in my opinion it is definitely worth a visit.

The Internet at the restaurant is spotty though, but why waste the time ?
