Tommy's Place, Tip of Borneo
Ranked #5 of 11 Kudat B&B and Inns

The staff is nice and helpfull, but lazy (all the time with their mobile phone). They don't tell you much about breakfast/diner, pick-ups to Kudat city, check-out time etc. (perhaps if you specifically ask they will tell you). Because there was no information in the room or from the staff, we booked our pick-up to Kudat at TDA and we ate there (missing income!). On the website they say that there is a bus (still a mini bus, because to less people go to Kudat) all the way to the tip of Borneo. Yes, there is, but only to Kudat, not the real tip of Borneo which is 26km further from Kudat. They say on their website they have surfboards, but not at Tommy's place, although you can rent them at TDA. We were staying in the new building. The room was clean, but basic (overpriced). A mirror, chair, paintings will do the trick. Breakfast was okay too. The staff should clean the BEACH!! Also for the nesting sea turtles!!!

The environment was kind of dull...we were given the new rooms far from the 'lobby'. The room was okay for two people. We were staying in a standard single room, it has two single beds. The room has no chair and the lamps are hanging above the bed which was quite annoying. At first the window cannot be closed. We have to ask for the toiletries at the counter. The room was dull...maybe because it's still new. There are no slippers in the bathroom.

The bedroom is very basic and clean .Considering that we are paying RM 200 for the a room with bathroom, and management does not provide soap for washing hand. The staffs are not trained at all. They just sit there looking pretty. Food is very just palatable. Once can get better food at next hotels. The beach is beautiful but full of drift woods and debris. While we are there, the air is a bit hazy. We find out there are many hotels around the beach front which offered better facilities and services at a lower prices.

Room Tip: Shop around for better deals. There are many hotels around the area.

The beach, the water, the bay, Jessa, the villas, the coffee, the breakfast, the sunsets - this is what you came for!

We stayed in two villas and enjoyed the facilities - especially the modern bathroom and the outside pondoks with fridges that gave stunning sunset views. Jessa was a gem who stood out from the other staff (rather too many young men and women interested in each other rather than the guests?). Mr T - pay more to keep her as she is making your operation the attraction it is.

Room Tip: Villas give outstanding sunset views.

We spent five days at Tommy`s in May 2014. Regarding the saeson it was just perfect. We had an amazing beach all to ourselves, as the surfers' peak hadn't yet started.
Tommy's place is right at that beach.
For the couple of nights we stayed in the dorm (no working AC). Then a local police team arrived and we got upgrated, as they took our room. The rooms are nice for Borneo conditions, with good showers.
Staff is really friendly and there are many things to be rented (bikes, snorkel gear, beach mats, motocycle...). Try NOT, however to go on a motocycle tour, exploring the remote beaches. The motocycles did not have enough power and the breakes weren't working very well. Food is not that good. There is a cool place/bar down the street where you can get delicious, local food and drinks! We hung out there every morning and night:).
At Tommy's they also have WiFi and borrow their notebook to you, if you hadn't brought any mobile devices:).
You will get towels, but i am not sure if there is a cleaning service while you are staying there.
We caught a bus from KK to Kudat and got picked up at Kudat. Since our driver (Tommy?) took us with him to do some errands (petrol station, fishmarket ect.) the ride was for free. Otherwise it would have cost 25 per person, which is a lot! The bus shuttle fom KK-Kudat is 30!

Summing up, the Tip of Borneo itself is a disappointing place, but the sourrounding beaches and the nonexistence of tourists is fantastisch! A great spot to end the vacation!

When they say the place is at the tip of Borneo, it really was at the tip.

The rooms we were assigned to was new so it was very clean and comfortable despite some of the items weren't there as mention in the list amenities. The water pressure was rather bad, we were advised there have been no water in that area during our stay.

Apart from that it was a good stay and I was really happy to be at the tip of Borneo :)

So upon arrival we were sort of impressed. The rooms are new and clean so good. Then of course went for a glorious swim. And I mean glorious. The water was just so clear it was amazing. Then.....we headed back to Tommy's for dinner and a few bevvies. Dismayed and gobsmacked is what I can say. First of all the four of us drank all their COLD beer! We had to suggest that perhaps they put some more into the freezer. Ok not too bad you say. Well then we ordered dinner. FRESH fish was they way we wanted to go. Umm no....yet again. Sorry we no have fish, ok can we order the pork? Umm sorry we no have pork. Well we will order chicken burgers ok? Yes yes we can do that. Umm oh no you can't. They were disgusting to say the least. If it hadn't been for the fact we took our own drinks and sat and played cards under the light of the restaurant and then headed back to our rooms to play cards and gobble up our car nibbles (cheeses, carrots, olives and dips) I think we may have gone into a diabetic coma! Come on Tommy get your act together. We came from Australia to see the 'tip' of Borneo.

Room Tip: Check out the other places to stay first people.
