After reading all of the positive reviews we decided to stay at Tommys although we felt that the room rate was quite high. Expectations were high also. The first room we were shown was u acceptable mold in the bathroom everywere! The second room in the old building had the same issue. Staff was very friendly and showed us a room in the newly build unfinished building. This room was new and nice. The surrounding however was very disappointing because it was still a building site. The food is very basic and breakfast is way to simple. If you compare it with their direct competetors we think you can get better value for money and also way better food. Though this is not a bad place to stay but keep these thinhs in mind. Beach itself and the tip are great. Be carefull for the furious sandfliea on the beach and enjoy.

We spent five days here at the end of a trip and it was a perfect place to relax and wind down.
The rooms were great with nice beds, cool a/c and a nice shower in a wet room. The staff were lovely and friendly (Jess in particular) but the food was only adequate. The breakfast consisted of a chicken sausage, an egg and some bread that you can queue up to toast in the one small toaster in the place.
Virtually every guest including us migrated up the road to Howard's (see separate review) for food and beer each day- Come on Tommy's you are missing out!
The other wacky thing is that you need to request the rooms to be serviced- fine but please tell us when we check in

Room Tip: We stayed in the new block

Family of four spent four days here in June 2013 - and would definitely have stayed longer if it would have been possible to reschedule our flights! This is not luxury; this is basic and very nice. The rooms are clean, the breakfast homemade and well tasting, you have your own veranda to chill out on, air con, hot water in the shower, beautiful views and very helpful staff. The beach on the other side of the narrow, local road is just amazing. Hope to come back some day - highly recommended!!!

for those who plan of going to the Tip of Borneo, this is a very nice place to stay at. It's very close to where the China See and the Sulu See meet, it's just across the road from the beach, it has got its own restaurant but it's also close to other ones nearby, its chalets are very comfortable, with two beds, a big toilet&shower room, a small veranda to chill out at, tea&coffee facilities, anti-mosquito spray just for your usage, but most of all the staff is wonderful! :-) They really help you a lot, try to find means of transport for you and to solve any issue you might meet in your journey, they are very friendly and try to solve the small issues that might arise due to the weather, like a power cut that prevents from cooking dinner or the router from working properly. And they're really committed to their environment: the tip box content goes to a wildlife-protection fund! :-)

We visited here in July on the recommendation of others and were disapointed. The staff were very friendly and treated us well whilst there but there was a general feel that the place had been neglected. The curtains in our room were hanging half off the wall and the bathroom needed a good clean and refurb, with damp dirty patches showing through .Varnish was all over the bedroom walls where an attempt had been made to varnish the front door. The price we paid was the highest all holiday 150 Ringit a night and was not worth the money. A great shame as the setting was superb, we ate down the road at Howards restaurant as the menu was limited.Breakfast was good, served by lovely staff ...place just needs a bit of T,L,C and attention to detail !!

I stayed at Tommy's place because Howard's place was booked out in mid-July. I had one of the newer rooms with large and clean bathroom. Fans plus air-con, very clean.

Price included western breakfast with omelete. The rest of the menu was not very inspiring but large serves.

The beach is beautiful aside from the rubbish from the islands. Someone from Tommy's collected some of the plastic water bottles and I collected some of the rubbish as well. Good snorkelling along the rocks. Take a walk up the hill for sunset views. Finally beware of the sandflies, avoid the beach at sunset and the driftwood as they seem to gather there.

Room Tip: New rooms are sterile but clean and large.

stayed for 2 days in one of the standard room facing the beach. cant really see the beach though cause view is blocked by trees. the rooms are basic. really, really basic. which is fine by me, have it not of some molds in bathroom. checked in with some difficulties, the lady in reception told me my bookings are for a day only which is on the day after my arrival. very funny since i've paid my deposit (payment for more than a day) and emailed the scanned payment slip. have it not for a few vacant rooms they have left, me and my family would have slept on the bare beach. communication breakdown between the reservation staff in kk and the hotel staff? didnt want to ruin the vacation, i swallow my anger. wifi was very bad. we were told no wifi in rooms, only in the restaurant. fine. but then even in restaurant it was bad. geez... then comes the breakfast. i know its free. but then, i think more effort can be put into it. no housekeeping to makeup the room. my room is for 3 person but the mug provided is only one? overall, i think more can be done with this place.
