Ye Olde Swan
Reviewed October 19, 2011

The Olde Swan is a pub offering B&B / Hotel accommodation, its situated on the main high street in Brightlingsea which I might add is not a very busy road, when we checked in we received a warm welcome by the friendly staff and was showed to our rooms. We had booked two double rooms with a shared bathroom, the rooms were a good size but if I were honest although they were tidy and the beds were clean they could have been dusted, and the rooms looks like they had been decorated for Halloween by the amount of cobwebs. There was tea and coffee-making facilities in the rooms and a flat screen TV, also a nice touch was towelling robes in the wardrobes for the trip to the shared bathroom. The bathroom itself was quite strange a fairly large room consisting of the usual facilities, no bath and just a small shower. Breakfast was served in the bar area and was very good, consisting of cereals tea & coffee and the usual full english, but their did not appear to be any alternatives, but to be fair we did not ask. The one big thing to remember is if you are staying at the Olde Swan is there is no alternative entrance for the guests and you have to come and go via the main entrance of the pub, and this is not accessible when the pub is closed so if you are staying out late like we were as we were attending a birthday party it could be a problem, luckily we were staying on a saturday night so when we asked as to what was the latest time we could be back we were told 12:30 which was ok as the party finished at midnight but any later and we would have had to leave the party early, also when talking to someone at the party who friends had stayed at the Olde Swan during the week the latest you could be out was 1100pm so if booking a room bear this in mind
