EXCELLENT hot chocolate in a museum-like pub - filled with posters and displays about the battle of the Somme. The owner, Dominic, is quite a character and is worth meeting in and of himself.

Whilst on a two day self-drive tour of certain Somme battlefield sites, particularly those of Australian involvement, we stopped at Le Tommy for lunch. The place was almost full and had a really positive atmosphere. Whilst we did not have time to visit the museum, there was enough information to indicate that the Australian involvement around Pozieres was strong in memory and greatly appreciated - obviously due to the owner's personal commitment.
It was a cold and damp day and the warmth of the place and the large, inexpensive lunch was much appreciated. Whilst the meals were fairly basic we were not expecting Michelin Hat type food.
We were so glad that we had taken the time to stop there as the experience added greatly to the time we spent in the Somme and brought home quite clearly that there are still many who appreciate the sacrifices many Australians made. Of course this reverence and remembrance in the Somme extends to all those, from many nationalities, who fought and made the supreme sacrifice during those horrific four years. Visiting Thiepval, for example, is testament to that.
