Further to my last entry we returned to Butterworth Farm in October, 3 chaps; we shared the family room which was ideal with plenty of room. The separate toilet from the shower room was a great help mainly because one of our number spent so much time in the shower. Our main reason for our return was the La Boisselle Project, the excavations and tunnels of WW1, I would recommend visitors to see the work but check the web first for open days. We can also recommend the Poppy restaurant in La Boisselle for their fixed menu 4 course meals, no frills but very good prices around 12 Euros. Will return in April 2013.
Bernard & Marie at their best as usual.

My wife and I booked to stay 6 nights at Butterworth Farm mid September 2012 as part of a six week France holiday based mainly on a need to stay in Pozieres area and the favourable reviews on Tripadvisor.Prior to arriving I was beginning to wonder if 6 nights in the area was going to be perhaps too long as we had visited here in 2010 and stayed in nearby Hardicourt au Bois.Well all I can say is that I have never been made more welcome both by the owners Bernard and Marie but also by the other friendly and like interested people staying there. We had the best time and the conversations and laughter til late night resumed again over the breakfast table the following morning which meant that we were always late getting out to see things. This was such a pleasant balance to what is a very sad area to explore and I would have no hesitation in recommending Butterworth Farm to anyone interested in this area of the Somme.
The hosts are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are modern, clean and comfortable and the grounds are relaxing. We would definitely(and probably will) go back here again.

After 6 weeks touring France, Italy, Austria, and Germany we decided to spend part of our final week at Poziers, visiting the battlefields of WW1. Thanks to Tripadvisor, we found Butterworth Farm. Bernard and Marie are hosts par excellence and their property a true 5 star experience. Our fellow visitors were Canadian amateur war historians who entertained us in the evenings in the guest lounge over some fine red wine. The ability to cook one's own meals in a gourmet kitchen was a huge plus. As is the use of the property's to wash our backlog of dirty clothes.

And as other reviewers have commented, Marie's mouth watering cooking, especially her signature cheese flan - thanks Marie for the recipe - leave one wanting more. As an ex accommodation owner myself, I know how hard it is to get it right. And Bernard and Marie have got it 110 per cent. We may never return but we will remember and pass on the good news.

Room Tip: They are all excellent

We have just returned to Australia, having spent a week at Butterworth Farm and just loved the place. It was wonderful to have a base for a week, and Butterworth Farm was just ideal. Marie and Bernard were wonderful hosts, after a week it was like saying goodbye to friends and I hope we get to return there again one day. The rooms were lovely, very clean and comfortable. Having access to a large lounge room and a wonderful kitchen was great as well. Breakfast around the large table each morning was great, and the food was fantastic. It was all the little touches that made it special- advice on where to eat, where to shop, friendly welcome on return and Marie's wonderful cakes and tarts etc.

We were following in the footsteps of my husband's grandfather who served in WW1 and Butterworth farm was the perfect base, it was not far to any of the WW1 areas we wanted to visit, and Poziers itself is very significant to Australia. Meeting fellow travellers who were also interested in WW1 history as well was also great as you exchange stories, information and gained valuable insight into the area. I would not hesitate to recommend this place, staying here really helped to make our trip such a successful and memorable one.

I love the idea of Tripadvisor giving us the opportunity to share our travelling knowledge, however when you find a place this good, you almost want to keep it a secret!

We stayed here for 4 nights during September and enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Bernard and Marie are absolutely excellent hosts, by the end of our stay, they felt like close friends or family. In fact, I actually felt quite emotional about leaving the place when we said our goodbyes.

The B&B has a huge lounge diner with a comfy sofa's, loads and loads of reading material, tv, dvd player and wifi. There is a kitchen which you are free to use for either just beverages or if you wish to make you own meals. The kitchen is extremely well fitted out and is probably better than most guests own kitchen's at home.

The bed and bathrooms are enormous, clean, unclattered and very clean.

Breakfast is served on the massive communal breakfast table with all the other guests. You are served cereals, yoghurts, cheese, ham, fruit, loads of fresh bread with a fanstastic array of homemade jams and last and most important of all, Marie's warm cheese tart which it doubt very much is good for the waist line....but boy is it good!

The location is really convenient, you can easily within cycle distance of the majority of the WW1 memorial sites.

Lastly and most importantly of all, this place has something special, a unique atmosphere of like minded people coming together from all corners of the earth generally in search of someone who was lost, with a story to tell and a deep underlying respect for what happened here. Staying at Butterworth Farm itself only adds to the experience of visitng to the Somme.

Stayed one night but wish it had been longer. Marie wasn't in when we arrived but friendly long-stay guests Barry & Von made us welcome. That was one of the things that made our stay at Butterworth Farm so special - it felt like we were walking into the midst of friends rather than just picking up a key for our room. We learnt such a lot whilst there about the 1st World War in the local area, and especially the role played by the Australian troops up the road at Mouquet Farm. My own great grandfather was killed in action nearby, so it was extra special to meet people with an interest in the battles that raged around Pozieres. But back to the accommodation - rooms were large, clean, comfortable and had everything in them that we needed. The kitchen and communal area downstairs provided a lovely area to relax in and socialise. We enjoyed meeting up with fellow Britons as well as travellers from Australia and The Netherlands. And of course, the welcome from Marie and Bernard was warm and friendly. Breakfast was wonderful and sharing around the communal table made it all the more enjoyable.

Situated in the heart of the Somme with many things easy to get to, whether by car, bike or for the more energetic by foot.

This B & B is more a home from home, I can not say enough wonderful things about our recent stay.

Marie and Bernard are the perfect hosts, always there to help you but never intrusive. The breakfasts are wonderful, with the famous 'Cheese Flan' and lovely homemade jams, but we must never forget the very scrummy homemade cake with Marie's secret ingredient - oh la,la !!!!

The accommodation is beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean and the beds are very, very comfortable.

Downstairs is an open plan kitchen, dinning room and lounge - breakfast is served at one long table and this is a great way to meet your fellow travellers and pass on tips and information gathered about what everyone has found the day before.

Paris is and hour and half drive on the motorway so this could be used as a stopover for families travelling to Euro- Disney, or just a day's sightseeing.

We will definately go back again very soon - thank you to Marie and Bernard for making it such a relaxing and memorable holiday.

Room Tip: You could not pick which is the best one, they are all beautiful and spacious.
