Stayed overnight after a York trip as so very conveniently situated - friendly, quirky and exceptional value with good pub food and plenty of it but just couldn’t finish it all. Huge plates of home cooked gammon, fish and chips etc served with great Yorkshire style by the ever present hard working Rachael who looked after us so well and and washed down with an excellent Chilean merlot. Unbelievable deep orange coloured free range eggs for breakfast certainly worth noting even at an early hour if you are still awake.

What do you call a pub style motel these days as an interesting combination ? - slightly worried about sleeping so close to the A59 with heavy traffic most of the night and although our fears were justified did get to sleep eventually.
A very friendly place with a residents garden if you want to drink a pint of something special in the sunshine.

Stayed for a weekend and we were very well looked after by Rachel who is a gem and was running the place in the owners absence. Nice, cosy pub with pub grub which was tasty and served well with not too much waiting. Lovely garden outside the rooms and to the front of the pub and lots of parking space. Room was a decent size with large, comfy bed, tea/coffee facilities and plenty of storage space. Bathroom ok with large shower unit but not exactly a power shower. Only downside was noisy extractor fans which we could hear from other rooms and bedside light was covered in cobwebs!! Also, being close to the main road there was quite a lot of traffice noise. Park & ride is just accross the main road and costs £3.20 return to York centre (takes about 15 mins).

My husband and I have been here on a number of occasions and everything is always the same...

Exceptional, homemade, fresh, delicious, tasty food. The carvery is the best.

Lovely, polite, friendly, chatty staff. Rachel (bar staff) Keeley (carvery chief) are the best and are an absolute credit to the red lion.

Excellent quick service.

Nice atmosphere.

Very clean, tidy and cosy.

Excellent value for money.

We highly recommend the red lion.

We will keep returning.

Stopped in for what turned out to be an entirely predictable yet filling Sunday lunch carvery which was reasonably priced. It would appear that the carvery is the only food choice on a Sunday. Chatty staff.

Words cannot express the deep disatisfaction I felt while staying at this establishment. Rude doesn't discribe how badly the owners treated us. The food was disgusting and rediculously priced. Supposedly 'fresh' food was reheated frozen rubbish (£18.50 for a piece of cardboard posing as a steak with semi-cooked frozen chips to accompany it). My complaint was handled with distain and our refund refused because we had to cut our 2 night stay short due to such shoddy service and treatment. If I could give a minus star to review this rude money grabbing couple I would.
