“Over-priced hotel, staff fine, average facilities for this level of establishment”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2013

This hotel seems to be trying to be something it clearly isn't. Trying to be an upmarket, hotel and restaurant etc, but is only average when compared to other more deserving hotels and chains. Food and drinks especially are very over-priced. Staff were fine and tried hard to satisfy customers but were obviously inexperienced and on the slow side. Not really attentive. It would appear that issues are glossed over without really getting to the bottom of what the problem is. Typical of establishments who overbook or have too many guests. An overhaul seems needed. Sorry guys but plenty of room for improvement on this showing.

I needed a reasonably priced hotel with leisure facilities for a 2 night break to Alton Towers with my son. The De Vere Nottingham was perfect for the purpose of our trip. Staff were very friendly and helpful. First room we were given had a weird intermittent loud humming noise (which I think was the lift). I spoke to reception and they immediately checked it out and offered to move us to another room. Second room was fine, comfy bed and very quiet at night. The only issue with the rooms is the lack of air con. The room was much too warm to sleep well and you can only open the windows a tiny bit. I mentioned this the next morning and they immediately offered a fan for the room, which made a huge difference. Food is pretty straightforward but good value for money. The leisure facilities are simply amazing. A massive air-conditioned gym, classes and a huge pool, jacuzzi etc. The stay was good value for money and the staff were lovely.

Excellent stay for my 40th room clean, food good and service great. Had two treatments while there in the spa great overall. There were some partys but to be honest didnt hear a noise. Staff were very helpful and all ours needs were met.

I was supposed to stay at this hotel to attend a wedding. I called the day before to enquire what time I could check in (3pm), but I was told that the hotel was overbooked and despite my booking 4 months in advance, I had been moved to another hotel. Searching online, it appears that De Vere has a policy of overbooking their hotels. Frustrating!

We went to the De Vere restaurant to celebrate our 21st Wedding Anniversary. Upon arrival we were shown to our places and we ordered a bottle of wine. To our horror the glasses were filthy. We asked the waiter to replace them for us. No word of apology was forthcoming. It took so long that we looked at take some from another (empty) table. They too were dirty. In fact every wine and water glass in the whole restaurant was in the same unacceptable state. The replacements finally came. The food was cooked very nicely, but due to the lack of customers, they courses came through to us at such a pace that we had eaten 3 courses in less than an hour, even taking into account the wait for wine glasses and time spent to drink our bottle of wine. Thank goodness we had our meal as part of an offer. Others were paying full price! I cannot recommend this place to anyone. I noticed that they hosted wedding parties. Just imagine if the glasses were in the same dirty state for a wedding!!

The hotel was in an ideal location for visiting family. The bar and coffee shop were welcoming and comfortable. The bedroom was spotless and had a huge bed (two large twins joined together). The room was well equipped with an iron, ironing board, hairdrier and ample beverages. Although I didn't use it the pool it looked stunning. The hotel has a lovely patio area. Breakfast buffet was excellent with fruit, cereals, pastries, toast and a very good selection of hot food. A couple of downsides were that checkin was a bit slow and the bedroom would benefit from having air conditioning. Overall it was a pleasant stay

Room Tip: It was a fair walk to the room. I would advise anyone with mobility problems to request a room near...

We stayed here last night and the staff were amazing, as were the room, food and facilities.
We travelled with our pet dog which was no problem at all for the hotel, we were even given a larger room so he didn't feel cramped!
The pool is lovely and really clean and welcoming, especially on such a hot day! The local amenities are perfect, a beautiful reservoir, great retail park and nice pub all within about 3 minutes walk!
We ate in the Verve grill and Victory pub and both very good value for money, not the best meals I've ever had but very ice for very cheap prices.
What stood out the most was every single member of staff we came into contact with. They could not have been nicer or more accommodating in every single way, no request was too difficult!
Thanks for a fab weekend away!
