“Poor room location for disabled person”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

Stayed here for one night with disabled husband and our child. The 'disabled' room as they called it was right at the back of the hotel, up and down flights of stairs and long corridors and too far for my husband to walk to so I had to drive him from the rear car park to the reception to get to his meals! We had very little sleep as there were people coming and going in the room next door, slamming doors until the small hours. The room would not have been suitable for a wheelchair user as there was a tiny gap to navigate between the sofa bed for our daughter and our bed. The view from our window was of a shed, a trolley and some old tyres! We did complain to the receptionist who offered us some vouchers for a future stay but I don't think they want disabled people to stay here. I would not use this hotel again.

Rooms were decent size and comfortable. Staff friendly, helpful and efficient. Good quality and choice at breakfast. Location OK conveniently located. Hotel quite large so our rooms were fair way from reception.

Stayed here for a client conference so we were able to take advantage of their corporate rate, which I thought was very good value (£95 per night). Hotel has flooded the entire property with wifi (which is free) which instantly gets 5 stars in my book, and access is good from either your room, the bar or the conference areas. The venue has its own Starbucks, a good pub with your typical English pub fare and I thought the food was decent (excellent fish and chips).

I stayed in what they called an "Upper Deck" room on the first night and then a standard room on the second night - but to be honest, I couldn't tell the difference. Well furnished, decent size, good water pressure and extremely comfortable bed. Parking is free and plentiful and there is a Tesco Express within walking distance if you need to stock up on supplies.

One thing I did find interesting was that the rooms have zero air con and the only way to get fresh air into the place is to open the windows. I stayed on a warm day (ie 22c) which I know is rare in the UK, but still it was quite stuffy. The rest of the premises are well air-conditioned - and to be honest I didn't have trouble sleeping but I would think it would be an unpleasant place to spend 4-5 nights if it was hot (not that this happens too often in the UK!)

Also has what appears to be an excellent gym/health facilities and spa but I didnt get to use them due to time constraints.

I'd have no issues staying here again - its got a good atmosphere, it works as a hotel, understands the business traveller and the staff are friendly and helpful. Free wifi is a huge plus in my books, which works hotel wide.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the 1st floor

We were travelling as a couple for a wedding (not held at the venue). We chose the venue for its facilities and location. We arrived at about 3pm Friday and went straight to the pool. At this time it was very busy and noisy as it was holding children's swimming lessons and their mums were also using the pool, jacuzzi and sauna, so there was very little room to swim.

The De Vere Village hotel seems confused to what it is. It is obviously popular as a leisure centre and function venue, but the same care and attention is not given to its hotel rooms, which are tired, noisy and not great value for money. For a hotel of that price I expected more.

Breakfast was average, service was very slow for tea and coffee (which didn't taste great in the end), and we had to remind the staff to bring it to us. Some breakfast items ran out very quickly (pastries, hash browns, milk?) and only the latter being replaced.

My main gripe was that a wedding was being held on one of the nights we stayed, and we were not pre warned of this, nor moved further away from the noise. The rooms were extremely hot with no air con, and early on in the evening we could escape the disco noise by shutting the window. Later on in the evening (around 10) however, they turned the music up and we could clearly hear the music loud in our room, so there was no getting to sleep until midnight (even with my earplugs!). The pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable, but when I could get to sleep, I slept well. I wouldn't stay here again unless I had to.

Room Tip: ask for a room away from a function room

We stayed 3 nights to catch up with family and friends in the area. Our king room was large and comfortable and the staff extremely courteous and helpful - nothing was a problem. The hotel was full and there were lots of children around. We did not find this a problem as it was always quiet at night and that is what is important to us. Lots of facilities at the hotel all of which were complimentary. Breakfast ordinary but plentiful and lunch in the bar was fine. We would certainly go back if in the area as it offered everything we needed and was well priced.
