very good food with local ingredients, perfect French onion soup, slightly dry potted crab, the best mackerel I have had for a long time and an ideal Sunday lunch of rib of beef

Had another wonderful meal at The Millbook Inn. Although parking difficult, worth the trip as food is fabulous. Yes, it is not the cheapest restaurant but the lamb and boulabaisse terrific and the deserts (sticky toffee pudding, lemon posset) lovely. Ok, it does have fois gras on the menu but there are other starters (all French influenced) to choose from and a lack of demand will, I am sure, determine the menu choice. I will certainly go back and would recommend. I love the fact that the locals are also there

We have eaten here many times. The food is always interesting and beautifully presented. The staff are lovely and just make you feel really welcome. Looking forward to our next visit.

As locals we like to think that visitors are made welcome to our lovely part of the world. Sadly this was not in evidence at The Millbrook Inn on our visit this week.

No smiles; no welcome; no crab sandwiches; in fact no sandwiches whatsoever; no ploughman's lunch; no chef's daily menu. In fact the answer to each and every question was 'No'. As we were eating at Mitch Tonks's restaurant in Dartmouth that evening we were hoping for a light lunch. The menu clearly stated that there was a daily two or three course lunch option but this also was unavailable. The very unfriendly barmaid stated, and I quote, 'it's too much bother for the kitchen'. We made do with one course and drinks and left.

I have read the reviews on this site and it appears that our experience was not unusual and I cannot understand why at the very least staff are not requested to smile and be polite and welcoming and helpful; all of which were sadly lacking on our visit. Needless to say there will be no return visit and the Millbrook Inn scores the lowest rating I have ever given to any establishment.

We booked a table and when we got there we were the only ones eating but we were put at a table by the door that was breezy and cold, should have said something but hoped the door would be shut which it eventually was. After that we had to endure the door being opened everytime one of the locals went out for a smoke. The food was OK but overpriced for what it was, on the plus side the beer was good and reasonably priced. I would call in again for a drink but would not eat there again as there are better places around at cheaper prices.
