Owner description: The remains on view at Caerleon provide the visitor with a vivid picture of life in second-century Roman Britain. Some 12 miles down the Roman road you will come across Venta Silurum, the first town in Wales and the tribal capital of the Silures. We call it Caerwent today. If you get a chance, pop down to see its surrounding walls and the remains of shops, a Romano-Celtic temple and the forum-basilica.

Free entry to a superbly designed Roman Bathhouse. Great little museum and fabulous amphitheatre too.

Well laid out, free entry, large site featuring many remains, don't miss the barracks, the amphitheater, the excellent museum which is really child friendly, the massive, extensive and amazingly well preserved walls of the Roman town and the baths, note that most sites are out doors, its a lovely small town and just walk around and see the many Roman remains, nice pubs, tea shops and restaurants ... well worth a visit

This was a total surprise, I half expected it to be the usual few bits of stone in a field scenario :) But instead there has been some serious investment in to the site of the biggess Roman settlement in Britain (or maybe joint with York!) Home to a whole Legion thats over 5,000 people! There are several sites to visit, we parked outside the Bathhouse and got a ticket ther for about 4 hours which was only £1.80 or something, and then everything else is within walking distance, the Bath House was fantastic!! Free entry too! Really modern museum built around the ruins, interactive and full of great add ons to enhance the experience like projections of swimmers in the pool, and sounds effects, replica finds laid out for you to touch and hold - superb!!! We then went to the main museum which is also modern bright and interesting with some great guides to answer questions and some really interesting finds. Then we walked to the amphitheatre which is a real surprise and looked fun to walk through and into, but by this time it was hailing (in May!?) and being 8 months pregnant I was knackered, so we missed the Barracks which is across from the amphitheatre and also supposed to be well worth seeing. Entry to all of these was free! Highly recommend a visit

Old and quaint. A great stroll around and a must visit to the Roman Baths. Not brilliantly sign posted but a lovely peaceful place to visit.
