“A wonderful Welsh welcome in a superb B&B!”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We have just returned from a 2 night stay in one of the best B&B's that we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in many over the last 40 years.
The proprietors Katherine and Peter set excellent standards. The room Number 1 was great, the huge bed so comfortable with excellent mattress and beautiful sumptuous cotton sheets. The en-suite very roomy with nice white cotton towels and super lighting. We opted for the cooked breakfast both mornings which was delicious although there is a nice variety of other combinations on offer as well.
It is spotlessly clean and really well equipped. Katherine made us a lovely pot of tea with biscuits on arrival and made us feel very welcome. She is a fountain of knowledge about the history of Caerleon and all it has to offer. We walked the heritage trail stopping off at a few hostelries for refreshment as we made our way round the Roman town. The Pendragon is well placed in the centre of the town and we were given a parking place at the pub around the corner with a permit to display. We had a meal at Curro's opposite and that was fab.....recommend the steak! There are plenty of pubs and eating establishments for all tastes. Nice craft shops in cobbled yard on High Street.
If you want a break in this area this is the place to stay. We shall certainly go back and will recommend it unreservedly to all our friends and family.
Thank you Katherine and Peter for making our weekend experience so wonderful.

We stayed at the Pendragon over bank holiday weekend and I have to say how great it was. The owners Kath and Pete really do give you a warm welsh welcome ans nothing is too much trouble for them. The room was lovely decorated and the bed was so comfortable! The breakfast was great too! Would definetely stay here again!

The B&B is small, but perfectly formed! Good, if small-ish, rooms, tastefully decorated in a modern and non-chintzy way. Gorgeously comfortable bed. Good shower. The couple who own the Pendragon are friendly, knowledgable about the area and make one of the best breakfasts you could imagine. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - and when we accidentally left something behind in the room, Kathryn had in the post the next day and was super charming about all the extra work. Parking in the local pub carpark was no problem - and Caerlon is a great place to visit, especially if you're into all things Roman.

Room Tip: The room at the back is quieter - Friday and Saturday can be noisy when the pubs close.

Stayed for one night only, but would have been happy to stay much longer. A warm welcome, lovely comfortable room and bathroom, both spotlessly clean, well stocked tea/coffee tray, and delicious cooked breakfast. Free parking is just over the road in the Bull car park. (Get a voucher from Pendragon House so you don't have to pay.) This B&B certainly deserves its good reputation. I would return and definitely recommend it to others. Free wifi inicluded. A small amount of traffic noise, which only disturbed us as we live in the country and are not used to it.

The welcome cannot be faulted; it is positively dynamic. There is no car park so you have to get a token or find a place in one of the adjacent streets. Do not underestimate the importance of this area historically. The Romans had a very important presence here and it is reflected in the museum, the barracks, in fact the whole place. Interestingly this B and B has the remnants of a mediaeval street beneath the hallway which is approached by a trapdoor.

Anyway, to the detail: I find it a little bit of a strain to have to say exactly what you want for breakfast by 9 PM the night before. Sometimes I don't know what sort of appetite I will have so I have to make an inspired guess. The breakfast environment is not for the fainthearted or the half awake. The dining room has a stone floor and this combined with the open door to the kitchen makes for a lively if not noisy environment. When I have my breakfast I like to be quiet and this is not possible here. However my partner was delighted and was not bothered by the noise element. I suppose it's a matter of taste.

The landlady Kath and her partner Peter can be relied upon to find out anything in the local area. If you are thinking of visiting the area don't bother about Newport why not use this as a base? We stayed there two nights and we are glad we did.

The bedrooms are well appointed if a little small. It is nice to have a decent shower and soft water is a bonus. If you want graveyard quietness then room one is the one to aim for. The other two rooms lead on the street but there is very little traffic in the evening so don't worry about that.
We basically paid £65 for two and would return.

Room Tip: Room one is the quietest but all are okay

I can only echo what the other reviews have said - it's a great place to stay and you won't be disappointed.
It's important to remember, I think, that a B & B is someone's home - so distinctly different to a hotel. What it means is that it becomes your home for the stay too, and this is exactly the attitude that Kathryn and Peter bring to their lovely B&B.
The welcome was warm and you immediately felt comfy and relaxed - the room was spotless and well appointed - lovely bathroom too, with proper sized shower gel and shampoo - none of this tiny hotel bottle nonsense!!!
Bed was really comfy, linens lovely too. Kath brought us tea and hot chocolate just after we arrived - perfect after a long drive and she was really helpful with local knowledge and a recommendation of somewhere to eat. As it happens we had booked at one of her favourites already which did not disappoint!!
Breakfast was lovely - a great choice to pre select from the night before, all freshly cooked for you the next morning. Faultless to be honest - you just knew nothing would be too much trouble for Kath, and thats pretty special. Would we go back ? You bet we would. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Book early as I imagine, given the reviews, that it's very popular in high season.
