Meson de Santa Elena
Ranked #1 of 4 Mascota B&B and Inns
Reviewed December 20, 2011

The staff at Meson de Santa Elena were excellent and made our stay there wonderful.

We had originally booked a large downstairs room with high ceilings, but changed to an upstairs room with a sunny and warm balcony.

The breakfasts are wonderful, cooked to order and tasty. They are served in the very pleasant interior courtyard.

Two downsides - Spanish language skills are a must, as the staff is either reluctant or can't speak English. The wifi only seemed to work when very close to the office sucking up street exhaust fumes.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms have a lovely sunny patio and are removed from the noise and fumes of the street.

this was a comfortable spot, an old colonial villa, open-air courtyards and nice touches throughout. This is a nice place for more modest Moscota. the rooms are very nice, the service was done with a smile, and breakfasts were good. The breakfasts contained granola with yogurt followed by Mexican eggs or eggs of any other type. You also had fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee.it is a great start to the day. It is located near the town Plaza and near preciosa sangre.

We stayed here in 2000. After driving up from PV we decided to stay in Mascota. Meson de Santa Elena took us in without a reservation and we had two of our most treasured vacation days. Great service, beautiful breakfasts, a pleasure in every way. We loved this place.

The museum in Mascota is a must - we had a guided tour.

This B&B was a delight, in the mountains just a 2 1/2 hr drive from PV. Meson de Santa Elena is one of the Historic Haciendas and Casonas of Mx. We decided to stay in the "middle" town between Talpa and San Sebastian, but had no idea 2 nights wouldn't be enough to experience all there was to do in and close to Mascota. A large reservoir with small launches that take you meandering back and around through the acres of tree lined lake. Small museum supported by Nat'l Georgraphic. Nearby petroglphs. Jeep exploration into the hills. Picture perfect tiny towns above Mascota. Volcanos, volcanic lakes, you name it. We only spent 2 hrs in nearby Talpa, for a few bottles of traditional rompope (Mx eggnog) to bring back, along with famous guava roll. Then headed back to Mascota and the welcoming Inn. Just lovely - spanish style inner courtyard with lots of flowers, birds, fountain, and easy chairs all around the courtyard, to rest read in late afternoon while sipping wine or beer (they serve it all). The rooms were beautiful, all decorated in Mx antiques, decorative tiled bathrooms with monogrammed towels, plush robe for the guests, you name it. And a full hot breakfast made when you're ready to enjoy it in the morning. We'll return for more time in the fall. Call direct for best lowest rate, and this one's a true bargain. Learn a few spanish words and it's worth the experience! This one's a must do. Even the eco-road to get there, only 2 1/2 hrs from PV, was amazing, the views outstanding. Go!
