“Perfect for families and romantic weekends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2011

We were looking for a place to spend our last two days of holidays and found a gem: in an amazing setting this agriturismo offers everything you can wish for visiting the Piemonte: excellent food & wine, beautiful vistas, friendly people (the staff was very caring!) and "dolce far niente" at the infinity pool.
We had a great time with our two little kids (they loved the riding) and their grandparents...next time we will come alone.

“Beautiful place, questionable cousine”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2011

I was looking for the "next level" restaurant in the area where I have a countryside house, to invite some of my colleagues when they stop by in Italy.

La Maragliana is a beautiful Agriturismo, on the top of the hills of Monferrato an area whose beauty has not yet been fully discovered by turism.

The atmosphere in "La maragliana" is that of a luxury resort, starting from the impressive closed gate (you have to ring to get in), the wonderful view, the garden, the swimming pool, the nice "dehors" and the sophisticated furniture in the dining rooms.

Unfortunately, as soon as you open the menu the disappointment begins. They must have hired the cook in some Italian restaurant in Moscow or London -- there is vitually nothing typical from the area in the list. Dishes span the cousine from the whole of Italy, which is extremely uncommon for the area, and pretty uncommon for Italian restaurants (in Italy) as well.

I took a "brasato al barbera" (one of the few dishes from Monderrato), it was not that bad. My wife took some "Ravioli gobbi" (hunchback ravioli), they were overcooked and not particularly good either.

The wine list is impressive, however, I out of the 2 options I selected, none was available, and we had to fall back to the house wine.

Pricing wise, 2 persons, 1 starter each, my wife took a 1st course only, I took a 2nd course (no 1st), house wine, no dessert, no coffee, total 76 Euros.

Tourist trap ? I would not push it that far. For sure the target is not the locals.

If you want something typical, try Ca Rupestr at Canelli, or even La Signora in Rosso at Nizza Monferrato.
