Norm's Place

If you are looking for a place to relax away from the noise of Port-au-Prince, Norm’s Place (in Labadee, North of Haiti) is definitely the place to stay. I have never been in such a peaceful and quiet hotel. It really does not even feel like a hotel, it feels as if you are visiting a friend (who happens to have nice rooms and beautiful gardens). People who are down to earth, who do not enjoy the big crowds from tourists or the loud noises of the big cities will truly enjoy this little piece of paradise on earth. We just arrived yesterday and we cannot wait to go back. It was that BEAUTIFUL! All the important information has been already mentioned by previous guests below, therefore I will just give a small summary.

1. contact information: (509) 3917-3155 or (509) 39251210 Angelique Zarchin

2. It is located in Labadee Village (you can park your car in Coco Beach- along the side from Royal Caribbean)then take a boat, which should be like 10 minutes long. We paid 100 gds per person. If you need recommendations, we took a boat with Chenet (recommended by our friend Tyler). If he is not available his brother Max is there instead. Their telephone number is 39455680.

3. We paid 80 USD dollars for a room for 2 (40 each) and one person paid 65 for a single room. Angelique (the owner) also mentioned making small discounts for groups (so ask).

4. Cash Only (she does not take credit cards)

5. Dinner or lunch for about $12 dollars. They provide breakfast, as Tyler mentioned, it is just your normal Haitian breakfast. One omelet, bread, peanut butter, juice, coffee and marmalade.

6. Don’t forget to try their delicious orange juice!!!

I'd def recommend staying here, and the manager Frank is really sweet. Its
$40 a person/night. The rooms are really charming and lovely. Its in Labadi villiage which is only accessible by boat. This is a great place to stay if you're going to paradise beach and don't want to rush back to make the 1.5 hr drive out of the forest while there's light. They also provide dinner for around $12 which looked good (we set up a cheaper alternative which turned out cold/we regretted it).

Norm's Place really is a gem in Haiti. Located in Labadee village, you have to take a little boat to reach the hotel (100 goud or $2.50 USD per person). We highly recommend Chenet, as he was a great "captain". The lodge is quaint. Maybe 8 rooms with steady electricity and wifi although no hot water. Cool architechture, beautiful scenery, and located right next to the lovely village. We enjoyed walking through town. hiking on the mountains, and most of all visiting the beaches...Paradise Beach and Amiga Island (zil ara, in kreyol). These beaches were easily the nicest I've seen in my 1.5 years in Haiti...clean, fine sand, clear warm water, and sparsely populated. There was a cruise ship in port for both of the days we were there, although it didn't bother us at all. Didn't feel crowded at the other beaches as the tourists were mainly confined to the Royal Caribbean private beach.

The food was just alright although not many other options. Bread, peanut butter, and eggs for breakfast....Haitian-style dinner with rice, chicken, fish, sos pwa, and fried plaintains). The staff was friendly enough, although don't expect any language other than kreyol unless the manager pops in.

$40 per person per night is what we paid, which I think was definitely reasonable. I'd love to come again!

A family run guesthouse own by Norman and Angelique Zarchin. Once you enter the compound, you'll see how much love they put on this beautifully constructed place. Surrounded by a lovely garden with warm and friendly atmosphere. Perfectly located on the bay of Labadee at the edge of the village. Owner said, the French Governor's mansion was situated in the same spot, and they still kept some part of the wall from the original in place.

Food: breakfast is included but lunch and dinner only provided upon request. The quality of the food: DELICIOUS first best Haitian food I ever ate but simple western food also can be requested and of course seafood as well.

How to get there: when you arrive at the airport of Cap-Haitien, get a taxi to Labadee. They should take you to the compound belong to the cruise company. From that point you can take "water taxi" to bring you to Labadee Village and tell exactly that you want to go to Norm's Place. Bargain hard for the price, it should be maximum 200 Goudes equal to 5 USD for the whole boat (if you don't want to wait until the boat is full).

Once you get in, it will only take 5 minutes to reach the place. With one jump out of the boat, you are already at Norm's Place where Angelique will welcome you with her big smile.

How to book: call at +(509) 39251210 or email at -- (better to call than emailing). Or if you want everything to be arranged from air ticket, transport etc even a tour to Citadel contact Jacqualine Labrom at --

Tips: if you want to have a beach for yourself, take a boat to Paradise beach or other beach which was the best one but I forget the name (ask the boat man)
