“Stunning, beautiful resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

If you are looking for a high quality, peaceful resort that has stunning views then this is the place for you. We stayed 12 days (children 14, 11, and 8) in the first two weeks of July and enjoyed our stay immensely.

From the delicious wide variety of food (a great credit to chef Luke and his team) to the lush, beautiful gardens, we couldn't really fault this hotel or its wonderful staff. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The management team led by the two Stephans is hands-on, visible and make a special effort to makes guests feel welcome.

Thankfully the resort has no mind-numbing, noisy jet skis so you can relax on the beach or by the pool (both large pools are excellent and there are other smaller pools scattered around the villas) . Like other resorts on the island there is coral although you can swim nearby and it has a great pier to jump off into clear water.

Both restaurants are good (particularly Amber) and the breakfast bufet is exceptional. The chefs are enthusiastic and obviously take great pride in what they produce for guests. If one could offer a suggestion it might be to have one adiditional restaurant at the resort offering particular food (e.g. Italian or Japanese). This would provide additional choice in terms of venues and may lead to even more people dining in-house.

Some activities such as yoga and things like shuttle buses could probably be complimentary or be part of the overall package (good PR for Intercontinental anyway) but these are very minor issues.

Some might think that Taling Ngam, compared to other places on the island, is comparatively isolated but we found the hotel's location to be an asset. There is no over development and the views are spectacular. There are not only regular shuttle buses but you can easily rent a car (dropped directly outside the lobby) which we did a number of times and be in nearby towns within a short space of time. The concierge is very helpful. Santiburi golf course at Mae Nam (30 mins away) is highly recommended although expensive (best to play Wednesdays at half price).

Overall, we had a wonderful time and would certainly return. Indeed, we felt fortunate to be stay at such a high quality respirt. Thanks to all the team at Intercontinental for making our visit so memorable.

Stayed for 10 days in June/July.
Hotel is excellent. Cannot fault it.
Staff are warm and friendly.
Stayed in a panoramic view villa which was extremely spacious, clean and well-fitted. We are a family of 5 and there was plenty of room for the children and us.
The food all across the resort was excellent, particularly the authentic thai food. The head chef, Luke, creates great dishes and the breakfast was probably the best buffet breakfast we've ever had. Personalised dishes on request, and even a complimentary birthday cake for our son was eagerly provided. Thanks Luke.
The hotel is isolated, however there are a handful of options a short taxi-ride from the hotel, and chaweng is only 35minutes away.
Will definitely be returning.

Just returned from a brief 2 night stay at the Intercontinental.
Had a fantastic time. Stayed in a Junior Suite which was amazing.....extremely spacious with a raised king bed with 4 posts surrounding as the central point of the room. Fantastic ocean views and a good location (Room 602) close to lobby and one of the restaurants.
Quite a walk down to the beach but you can get a golf cart if necessary.

We found there to be quite a lot of families which was surprising as would have thought it would mainly appeal to couples but with the villa options great for families to have separate sleeping areas.

A lot of the rooms seem to be undergoing refurbishment and also not sure if some of the villas are owned separately.

2 restaurants were fine. Drinks especially wine I thought was very over priced. Cocktails kept us going though for about £5. Wine was about £12 at the cheapest glass.

Food was very good. Ate at Flames both nights down on the beach. Great Thai food.

They do special evenings but we didn't attend these.

The resort has 7 pools all of different colours which was fun and we found most people went down to the beach, leaving the other pools desserted.... we went to the Yellow, Blue and Orange pools and didn't see anyone.

The setting of this hotel really does relax you. It is almost there as a perfect holiday retreat. Slightly rough around the edges in places and food and beverage a little on the expensive side but apart from that it's great. We were pleased to find out some of the management team had previously worked at Indigo Pearl in Phuket, one of our favourite hotels we have ever stayed in Worldwide so knew we were in good hands.

Make sure you keep up the refurbs and keep the resort looking good.

Very quiet in the evenings, most people were in bed before 10 which was a shame as no life at all at night not even at the Air Bar. Maybe if the drinks were a little cheaper guests would stay up a bit longer!

Wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone looking for luxury or a special stay.

I'm not a person for going back to the same place but would gladly book myself here again next week!

The hospitality of the hotel staff and Thai people were 5 star. Can't wait to return to this excellent hotel. I was blessed with good weather and i am sure this was also organised by management! The boat trips and excursions were always on time and very enjoyable.

The best resort ever. The best sea view. This is where you want to be for holidays with family. Good service...excellet breakfast. Fantastic pools. The only drawback is the location...isolated. Must have a car unless you want to just stay at the resort. When it rains you are stuck there, can be very windy. Need to ride buggy down the hill to car park and the big pool.
