“great hotel and location!”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

I would definitely recommend this hotel for any family who plan a trip to Chania, Crete. Very clean, comfortable room, beautiful surroundings with the most amazing sunset. There are plenty sandy (baby friendly) beaches near by and around 15-20 min drive to Chania. Free wifi to the room a plus!

We stayed in room n. 11 for 4 nights in April 2014. It was on ground floor so the view of the sea is not the best as it must be from first floor, but just in front of the beautiful garden with plenty of geraniums. The room was large enough and with very nice furniture; bed was comfortable though a little bit hard for us; bed sheets and towels were good quality; bathroom was tiny but very nice, with beautiful tiles and a fabulous shower; the small open kitchen was well equipped (but no dishwashing soap provided, unless you ask for it); table and chairs only outside in the large terrace; hair drier was provided and there was also a safe; internet worked really well.
Buffet breakfast was satisfactory: good yogurt, cereals, white and whole wheat toast, cheese slices, ham, jam, butter, hazelnut cream, boiled eggs, biscuits, honey, fruit, orange and apple juice.
The location is awesome: on the rocky coast with wonderful sunsets, not far from the nice beach of Stavros and about 15 km from the lovely Chania (yes, you need a car but of course it is the best way to discover Crete!)
Next time, we surely go there again!

Look, if you're looking to find the Ritz, this wonderful place is not. Here you will be met by Tasso and his associates who are actually concerned. About you and your family. About your comfort in this very personal place. The location is fabulous, at an edge of the Cretan coast, but a short drive into the city-Chania. OK, ya need to rent a car. But there is a world of wonderful places to explore on Crete. And each time we arrive back on this beautiful peninsula we smile. You will too. At Kavos Beach Hotel. The internet may be a bit slow, occasionally...but I'm here to kick back. The breeze is sometimes strong off the Aegean. But that's in April. In "season" this is an absolute paradise. Well....it's an absolute paradise anytime! Make your plans to stay here....at Kavos Hotel! A terrific value, in a spectacular location all attended to by great people!! And clean as can be. I like clean. This is truly a diamond. In the Aegean Sea.

You need a car if you stay here.

The apartments are all very modern and clean. The bathrooms are especially nice and 5 star quality, finished in slate/marble and with a posh "multi-shower" that blasts you from all angles at once. We had two nice sized balconies and a big clothes hanger which is handy for long stays (although there is a launderette a little to the east of chania market)

The location is perfect, basically isolated but only 2 mins drive to a minimarket and tavernas and awesome beach. The Stavros village has a nice feel and is away from the traffic of Chania. We also stayed a week west of Chania and it was touristy and terrible compared to Stavros.

There are some great beaches nearby, not only Stavros but two beaches on the SE of the airport and our favourite "Satans Harbour" north of the airport, check it on the cretanbeaches website.

Breakfast was simple but I am happy enough with yogurt and honey. You can pay 2.5 euro for a proper espresso based coffee if you get tired of the weak filter coffee. (I brought my own mocha pot to make coffee in my room, and the smaller minimarket has a coffee grinder.)

On a calm day you can snorkel in the two bays behind the hotel, its rocky and there are many sea urchins but with some swimshoes you can get in and out safely. The snorkelling there was better than anywhere else I tried as other places were too sandy/populated. Many fishermen come here so you know there's fish.

We stayed a week and never had a single thing to complain about.

Negative points:
1) the apartment was slightly small in terms of sq/m. And it had a steep staircase to the 2nd room which was a pain when going to the toilet in the night or trying to coax children down for chores. We stayed elsewhere for our 2nd week and it was more spacious and all on one level and this was really nice.
2) I personally think they could have designed the apartments better in many ways, for example the car park should be at the rear of the plot next the road to free up all the seaside space for the rooms...instead they put the car park in the middle of the plot and so many villas have a "car park view". I was not so happy to be so far back from the sea. I think all the big apartments for families are set back and the smaller apartments for couples seem to be at the front near the pool and sea.
3) The bathrooms are lovely but you have to climb over the toilet to get into the shower, a shame because they invested a lot in quality finishings and this spoils an otherwise delightful bathroom. Again a silly design mistake that could have been avoided without cost.
4) The pool was seawater...ok not the end of the world but a freshwater pool is so much nicer especially as the seawater in this area seems especially salty. It really hurts when it gets in your eyes or mouth.

One of the nicest hotels I've stayed at this place is out of the way, perfectly positioned on the coast to watch the sun set over the pool. The staff are friends, the food and bar are good, and the rooms are well kept and recently furnished to a high standard. Can't recommend this place enough. Must be able to drive however.

You will not be disappointed at all with this hidden gem. We had a fantastic time in Naxos and the Kavos Hotel was perfect to come back to each evening. It's located in a quiet area and only about a 10 min walk (or 2 min scooter ride) to the beach and town. Nestled perfectly on a hill, the Kavos has a fantastic restaurant and incredible service. Everyone there was so friendly and helpful, especially Barbara!

The only drawback is the hard bed; however, we overcame it with the views, pool, food and peace.

My friend and I have just stayed for one week at this hotel. We got lost when travelling to the hotel from from the airport! A map with clear directions for guests as part of the booking would be helpful. On arrival we ere welcomed by the manager and offered a drink. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, with an excellent maid service. The shower was hot and spacious,.The small kitchen was adequate,a small welcome pack with a small amount of tea and coffee would be useful for late arrivals. The breakfast was continental and generous-delicious greek yoghurt and honey recommended. The staff were always very friendly, polite and helpful. The hotel has beatifu panoramic iews of the sea, which is a few metres away. The swimming pool was clean and adequate with bar snacks of a cheese and ham toastie-a wider selection would be nice as it is a distance to any taverna.overall I would highly recommend this hotel for a peaceful holiday in a beautiful location.
