As other reviewers have noted, this is the only pub/inn in this charming village and this monopoly position means that the owners don't have to try hard -- and they don't.
Fine for a drink. Dinner menu is surprisingly good but offhandedly cooked. Wine list is sparse, in the £ 13-19 range.
Rooms and service poor. We had several visitors come in for a weekend. In one room, the shower was broken and the staff couldn't be bothered to fix it. In another room the door latch was broken and the staff couldn't be bothered to fix it. And no discounts offered for these problems in what are generally shabby rooms with too-sagging beds. Try to get a sandwich made off hours for hungry transatlantic arrivals? You'll get growled at for asking.
Next time we absolutely will try out Crown Cottage b and b, of which we've heard good things. Owned by a local Women's Institute stalwart.More
