“Best homemade cakes at unbelievable price!!”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Just had the best home made cake ever - courgette and lime sponge- a lemon curd filling and REAL butter icing topping - massive slice for £2.50. I am not sure jo m has actually visited the tearoom - it is certainly not the place we visit regularly. It is very very rare these days to find anywhere that sells home made food using good quality ingredients - the previous owners had a great selection of bought in and home made food. The new owner makes all her own food - savoury and sweet - the selection is therefore reduced but the quality is fantastic. She regularly bakes different recipes making every visit a treat. I am shocked to see someone post a complete untruth - it makes me wonder whether there is a hidden agenda!!??!! My biggest worry is that The Village Green will not be able to survive - as I know the owner spends hours baking, using expensive ingredients and charging very little - certainly not enough to cover her time! We are fortunate to be able to visit every week - it is the highlight of our weekend. It is a unique gem - we are very lucky to live so close. Does trip advisor allow reviews that make statements that are untrue?? (ALL her cakes and scones ARE homemade - certainly the scones and cakes I have eaten there!!!)

“Beautiful coffee in a charming cafe”
Reviewed September 20, 2012 via mobile

We visited on a sunny Saturday in August for a quick pit stop whilst on a Sidecar Safari trip around the peaks.

It was a beautiful day, and we were able to sit outside. Sara and her staff are lovely - very friendly and delighted to welcome new people into their cafe.

I used to be a barista in an Italian coffee house, and Sara was happy to explain what a flat white was. Once I'd tasted it, it became clear that it was the best coffee is had in a long time - strong, but not at all bitter and with a perfect crema. We also sampled their brilliant cakes, and were not disappointed.

If you're ever in the area, go and enjoy their hospitality - this is what cafes should be like!

“Outstandingly Good”
Reviewed September 3, 2012 via mobile

We visited this delightful little place last weekend. It's right in the heart of this historic Derbyshire village. Inside, it's bright, pretty pastels and Cath Kidston tablecloths, with picnic benches outside and smart umbrellas outside. The service is smiley and attentive, newly opened by Sara, a lovely woman who's working her apron off to make this place a success. She need not worry - it will be. The coffee is of a high quality and my daughter enjoyed her apple juice immensely. But it was the standard of cakes which lifted the establishment up to the stratosphere. The owner bakes almost everything herself, and it shows. My bakewell slice was unctuous and delicious, as light and sweet as an angel's kiss, and the two other cakes we bought were terrific too. I couldn't resist a sample mouthful.
So it was a case of empty platters all round, and at very reasonable prices too. This place will no doubt shortly be a regular stopping-off place for walkers, visitors and locals - if it isn't already. If you're in the area, go along and sample it. Go along now.

“Superb cafe with a warm welcome”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

Visited the new cafe after being refused a request for sandwiches at the village pub....it was after all 1355 on a wet Friday afternoon and the kitchen "was closed"!!!.
No greater contrast could there have been. Friendly welcoming staff, superb pastries, cakes and sandwiches.....all made on the premises. This is a business that really deserves to succeed.
Highly recommended
