We really appreciated this lovely B&B's clean and comfortable rooms. Great attention to detail and some lovely touches - fluffy bathrobes and bottled water - that one does not always get in this type of accommodation. Attentive hosts.

we stayed for 2 nights and loved it. We went the Barrel inn pub both nights for tea, lovely food and Karen and Andrew booked us in and reserved us a table which was good as its gets very busy.Breakfast is fab and the hosts were really friendly and helpful. good walks with great views, its was just what we wanted to get a away from it all. room was good and the bed was so comfy we had a great sleep. If you want to get away from it all, be looked after and have good food, relax, lovely scenery this is the place. Personally i prefer pay that little bit more and get the quality and great service. Cant wait go back when i'm feeling stressed again!

Room 1: Separate entrance off road in back of house. Room is on 2nd floor, accessed by inside stairway. View looks out over courtyard/Barrel Inn and countryside. King sized bed with ensuite bathroom. High ceilings. Timed heaters plus effective space heater. Desk with mirror. Large wardrobe with hangers. Bookshelf with many books and two chairs for relaxing. Separate counterspace has sink, refrigerator and cupboards. Bathroom has vent fan/ combo bath/shower. TV high mounted on wall with DVD player. Free wifi. Parking on site in back.

We loved our stay at Bretton Cottage. The room was cozy, spacious and very comfortable. It felt like a home, a place that felt familiar, warm and relaxing rather than a more sterile chain hotel environment. On a few nights and days when the wind and rain were howling outside it was comforting to be sitting on one of the chairs, sipping tea while reading one of the many books. The room was easilly able to accomodate the two of us and our three bags with room to spare. Being of stone construction, the room could get cold, but the radiators and space heater were more than able to keep the temperature to our liking (67-72F, 19-22c). Special mention must be made to the nice heavy towels in the bathroom. They are like blankets and very nice to keep warm after a shower.

The location of the Bretton Cottage is great as well. The views are spectacular and it felt like we were a world away from everything. Walks could be started the moment we left the door and after a long trek, the Barrel Inn next door was a convenient, friendly and tasty pub at which to eat.

Breakfasts were also special. There were cereals, fruits, yogurts, croissants, tea and coffee before the main meal. Choices included a full English, eggs on toast, smoked salmon and a portabella mushroom with rarebit filling. All were delicious and hearty enough to keep us filled for the whole day.

Our hosts, Andrew and Karen, were friendly and helpful. We really felt welcome, almost family comfortable by the end of our stay. They always had good local information to help guide us and, if time allowed, some interesting and memorable stories. We appreciated the personal touches, like adding a decaf tea to our room tray and giving us a printed map with directions to a laundrette in Buxton. Their hospitality, sincerity and humor made the stay great. We would wholly recommend Bretton Cottage and look forward to an eventual return.

From email confirmation to end of stay Karen and Andrew are perfect hosts. The rooms are beautiful (I have stayed there twice with a 2 year gap each time a different room) the breakfasts are amazing with home made bread and yummy jams, smoked salmon or a full English nothing seems to be too much trouble. You can even get free WiFi in the rooms The Pubs next door and down the hill have great food and real fires, the views are breathtaking. Just the right location for exploring this beautiful part of The UK.

We stayed in Room 4 which is best described as the "Conservatory Room" which is exactly what it is and very well appointed with a great modern clean bathroom with shower. It's a cosy room so don't expect too much in the way of space but it's been laid out well to maximise the available room. The only note of caution is that the bed was extremely soft, so if like us you're use to something firmer this may take a bit of getting use to.

Amazing views are to be had in all directions and very conveniently located next door to The Barrel Inn, Derbyshire's highest pub. It’s very cosy and traditional and is a great place to eat in the evening. The specials board being highly recommended.

Breakfast in the morning is of an excellent standard with a wide choice of options to set you up nicely for the day ahead.
