This has become our number one place to eat out when in north Norfolk. Why? Because it ticks all the right boxes:

The dining area is well thought out, contemporary and relaxed
The staff are efficient and friendly
The food is a cut above other places nearby

This place doesn't try to be what it's not. Too many of the others we have tried, again and again, either fall down on service or pretentious food. The Duck has nailed it spot on. It's professionally run by staff who obviously enjoy the job. The kitchen turns out excellent food which is nearly always better than you hoped. That's the secret. Full marks to a top notch chef.

Be aware that service between courses can be a little slow, but this is not a restaurant to visit in a hurry. Enjoy!

Visited with family one evening earlier this month. In brief, the pub makes excellent first impressions, with the original building having been tastefully expanded and remodelled. It's light and airy inside, but without sacrificing some of the character of the old building.

Although it may be the only pub in Stanhoe, the Duck Inn is more of a restaurant than a village pub. Service is excellent, from managers to the young waiters and waitresses, with everything checked and delivered promptly and politely. The menu is excellent, with local produce appearing prominently. The specials menu is longer than the dinner menu, and dishes are presented beautifully. The wine list is short; there is nothing life-changing but a reasonable selection of wine given the typical clientele (families out together, holidaymakers etc).

The only black mark is the terrible selection of options for vegan and vegetarian guests. In fact it wasn't a selection: on the night we visited, out of about a dozen starters and maybe twenty main courses, only one in each was vegetarian. Given the prominence given to Norfolk meat and seafood, the Duck could do more to design dishes for non-meat-eaters.

That aside, a great night and we hope it will continue to impress on future visits.

We visited the Duck Inn on Father's Day for an early dinner, with our 2 year old daughter and my parents. We had a lovely welcome from friendly staff and were seated in the very nicely decorated restaurant. Some of us ordered Traditional Sunday lunch and some had fish and chips - all the food was fantastic, and the roasts (pork and beef), were amongst the best we'd ever had. Desserts were also really good and a really good variety.

A special mention for the lovely lady who seems to run The Duck - she made our visit really special and especially looked after our little girl, which made the day for her and us!

I cannot praise this pub enough, and we'll definitely be back as soon as we can!

Stumbled across The Duck on a Sunday lunchtime but were lucky enough to get a table.

Lovely menu choices, and though we waited a while between courses the food was just delicious. The best bit about the whole experience however was the service, attentive and very accommodating and very good with our 10 month old daughter and her messy eating habits!

Well worth a visit.
