“Typical Sunday carvery but slow, slow service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2012

The Park Inn has a lot going for it in terms of location, well-established gardens and some lovely old buildings. The dining room is large and well laid out but why do they try to fit so many people on each table? A real clash of elbows!

It took some 30 minutes to order our choice of starter and another 30 minutes before it was served. Another half hour passed before we were invited to the buffet style carvery for our main course. It was like school dinners again. The meat was generous, well cooked and delicious. But the veg had been sitting in heated trays for some time and were well past their best. The dessert course was also served from a buffet and to be fair was the best part of the meal.

The Sunday lunch here is not cheap (approx. £18) and overall was fairly standard fare. Although we were in no rush, the slow pace of the meal meant that we spent much more on drink than we expected. So at least we went home happy!

“My husband was a Competition Winner and we dined at this hotel/restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

We had such a fantastic time recently at this restaurant. My husband had won a competition for a 150 person wedding Reception, and as we're already married they were happy to trade this in for a sit down meal in a private room for us and 12 other members of our family. The hotel has a really lovely feel and setting and more importantly, the food was amazing.

We were very well looked after with an individual menu arranged for us prior to the event, such as Tiger Prawns and Goats Cheese among others for starters. Main courses were Sirloin Steak (which most of us opted for) Pork Medallions, Grilled Salmon and a rack of Lamb. Desserts consisted of Vanilla Cheesecake (all homemade), Strawberry Pavlova etc. All in all we had such a great evening there, the 2 Waitresses on that night were very professional and attentive and the Manager David Graham was very helpful throughout all the arrangements. Have asked them to be put on their mailing list and cant wait to go back. Thankyou so much.

“A text book fail. Beyond useless.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

We arrived at 7pm and were promptly offered the chance to order. However the meal took an inordinate time to arrive with no explanation for the delay. We were on to a second round of drinks by the time dinner arrived. Anither eight guests drifted in by dinner so it was hardly busy.

At 9pm we ordered dessert. By 9.15pm no dessert. We chased it up to be told two choices were unavailable. How long.does it take to check the fridge? At half nine I told the bar maid enough was enough and we were leaving. The manageress came to apologise and admitted the desserts wr wanted were in the freezer. So not fresh.

She offered free desserts but by now we were so late for a further commitment we declined so were given our drinks free.

Sweet revenge to then present a taste card for 50% off the bill. A shame as the food was tasty in an average way however the steak doesnt merit the price. If i had paid the full price I would have been even more angry. Not recommended. Wont be returning.

“Now OK average carvery”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2011

This establishment is now part of the group that includes Radisson hotels.

We enjoyed a family carvery Sunday lunch in a spacious and attractive dining room. The service was friendly and attentive, if a bit amateurish at times (our wine was opened without being offered to taste.

The food was pretty good value £16.95 for a 3 course carvery of beef, gammon or turkey. The food was nothing particularly special but equally not bad either.

The wine list was a high point. Someone had clearly given considerable thought to including a range of wines that you might not expect to find in a UK restaurant. We paid £20 for a bottle of one of our favourite and lesser known white wines from France - Picpoul de Pinet.

There are separate rooms where you can have more private family functions.

All in all, while the experience was nothing particularly special, we enjoyed a delightful family meal in an enjoyable atmosphere with attentive friendly service.

If you live locally and want a Sunday Carvery lunch this was OK.
