This is my second trip to this fabulous restaurant in the small town of Mese near Chiavenna and once again the meal was excellent. We dined here in the summer out on the terrace and this time, visiting on the 2nd January, we were inside in a lovely traditional room with a roaring fire. The food is probably one of the best meals I have enjoyed in Italy and the staff are charming and friendly. The waitress even remembered that we had been there before (5 months ago!). The fact that on a cold winter's afternoon the restaurant was full speaks volumes - obviously its reputation for good food, good service, served with their own delicious wines is widely known. Can't wait to go back.

We had lunch yesterday at Crotasc in Mese. Restaurant mixes the quaint local flavor with some modern architecture. Crotasc is part of the Mamete Prevostini winery and Ive bought more than 100 bottles of their wine over the past three years from retailers in Chiavenna and Madesimo. We were the first table (party of 3) to arrive around 1230. We ordered while other couples (primarily) were seated. They were all offered aperitif while we received no such treatment. Our wine order came half way into the first course. The food was excellent local fare (pizzocheri, capriolo) however they struggle to keep up with the service when it gets crowded. Will go back but given my loyalty to their wines, the inconsistent service (echoed throughout the reviews) is disappointing.

If you don't know where this restaurant is it's difficult to find but when you do find it it's worth it.
The restaurant is very cosy with a fire burning in the corner. We ordered 2 glasses of prosecco which was served with a mixed amouse bouche plate which was very good, then we started with foie Gras which was served with confiture and glazed chestnuts and literally melted in your mouth, then I had the house speciality which are white gnocchi with potatoes and melted cheese, it's a speciality of the region and they were wonderful, my husband had venison fillet with dried fruits and season vegetables which was very tender, we finished with a chocolate mousse type dessert and coffee. We always enjoy having lunch here as it never fails to deliver and constantly serves good food with great service.

We visited the winery of Mamete Prevostini owned by the Crotasc family in order to buy some wine. Nicola was very welcoming and offered to give us a tour of the cellars and to see the production. We were persuaded to stay for lunch and we were very glad we did. A table on the terrace, under the trees and by the side of the mountain set the scene for a wonderful lunch and some outstanding wines. We started with freshly made ravioli with a wild mushroom sauce and followed this with a Florentine steak for two. There was no room left for desert but admiring glances at the other tables meant that we will return to this wonderful restaurant when we have built up a larger appetite. The service was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable and the prices were reasonable.
In the winter, meals are taken in the attractive dining room warmed by a log fire.

It was my first time at this restaurant, the main scope of the trip was a wine testing week end with two friends. Mamete Prevostini, one of the brothers owners and prized enologist has led us through the canteens and wine production facilities prior dinner and though we were already late by almost 1 hour he'd been kindly awaiting for us there.
He's been extremely helpful and has provided loads of technical information from the barriques sourcing to the Wine making processes. After the visit we have had a great "Menu Tradizione" (traditional menu) in the restaurant which was warmly and with friendly service. Traditional food can be quite heavy for people like us not used anymore to physical activities but the local wine helped a lot and we have spent at the table almost 3 hours. Moreover the final bill was definitely excellent value for money.
I recommend everybody passing nearby Chiavenna either on the way to/from St. Moritz or roaming from the northern Como Lake to stop in Mese and try this amazing place.
