Camping Sunelia Les Tropiques
Reviewed September 11, 2013

We really enjoyed our 16 night stay camping here . we booked the site independently with Sunelia and were very happy with the help and correspondence from reception. The site was clean and the showers and toilet facilities and pot washing are good. . I thought the rules at the swimming pool were a very good idea and stopped people reserving sunbeds and not using them, if you do put your towel on a bed and go to lunch your towel will be removed. The rule about men wearing speedos however did seem a strange rule.
We went to the entertainment on several nights and enjoyed it , yes its all in French but the foam party , magician who had a Big Cat on stage and the lady boys were unforgettable ! The on site restaurant was nice but the bar is expensive. The best meal we had was at a restaurant just up the road on the other side of the road, next to the police station, gorgeous.
The tourist information center is over the road and many people took advantage of the free Wifi here. There are also regular markets held in the car park. The beautiful beach is 10 minutes walk away , it can get windy and is quite steep to get in the sea but well worth a visit.
Just a few miles away you will find a Lidl, Aldi and carefour and a Mcdonalds if you want to use the free wifi .
We drove to Barcelona , its a 2 and a half hour drive and we parked opposite the Football stadium , We had pre booked bus tour tickets and toured around the city, or a weekly trip from the site is available. we also visited Collioure and took advantage of the park and ride which worked out at under 1euro an hour , parking in Collioure is hard to find especially on market day .Argeles is worth a visit with a gorgeous beach and plenty of bars and restaurants .There is bike here on site but some guys at the bottom of the site were hiring them out for half the price . We didnt book this site with Euro camp but the Reps were brilliant, very helpful and friendly so perhaps it would be worth booking with them in future. Our children loved this holiday and we all had a fantastic time , yes we would go again !

The only real problem we had was on arrival, despite doing our homework and making calls to confirm, the first two pitches offered to us for our tourer were far to small and uneven. We are aware that most of the sites wont take an 8m caravan but we were assured this wasn't a problem. Luckily, Tony the Euro Camp Rep, took no prisoners and we soon had a good sized pitch that was perfect for us.
Bear in mind that the roads on the camp that supply the pitches are quite tight to navigate.

Anyway, gripe over......

The beach is beautiful although there are days that it is quite windy and some kind of windbreak is an advantage, but some reviews that say you can't tan on the beach should have seen my back after the first day.
On site the bakery is small but its produce is amazing but the shop's choice is limited but ok for the basics. There is a Carrefour supermarket about 10Km away that is massive and cheap so food and supplies are not a problem.
The pool area is clean and great for the kids. I have to say that I applaud that they check if people have put towels on sunbeds and are not at the pool and remove them so you can usually get a bed.
The bar is expensive but you don't have to drink there and we didn't really bother with the entertainment.
We will return next year as the family loved it.
Massive thanks to Tony and Joan who are the Eurocamp reps and nothing is too much trouble for them.
If you book this site I would whole heartedly recommend that you use Eurocamp Independent as they gave us great service, they went the extra mile to make sure that we were happy with everything, first time we have used them but certainly wont be the last.

We are just coming to the end of a 10 night stay at the campsite in a trailer tent. Great location, although beach is a good 10 mins walk.

Toilets and cleaning facilities are kept clean 24hrs a day. There is an on site supermarket (well stocked), bakery, bar, restaurant and pizza take away.

All in all a great family stay.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at les tropiques. We travelled with euro camp, who have fantastic pitches. The caravans were well maintained and the reps fantastic. The campsite is fairly small, but that suited us well this year. The on site bakery is lovely, and the pizzeria served up delicious pizzas every time we went. The camping area was well looked after, bin units were spotless.
However, entertainment was abysmal- out of the fortnight, there were 2 nights of reasonable entertainment, which was put on by the sunelia team.
We found the numerous rules of the pool ridiculous - no flip flops around pool, no drinks or ice creams, rubber rings etc etc. There were not enough sun loungers available. The toilet facilities around the pool and bar area were not clean, and the bar was overpriced and extremely dated. The kids club reps had very little grasp of English, so our kids didn't want to go anywhere near it. The kids play park closed at about 6pm.
Location wise, it's very close to Perpignan airport, but I would definitely recommend hiring a car as Torreiles plage is just campsites and holiday apartments. We went out nearly every day for lunch or dinner, and to get to one of the many nearby hypermarkets (the on site supermarket has basic stock).
Despite all my gripes, we did enjoy the holiday, and there is plenty to see and do in this beautiful area.

I was a soldier for 18 years and am adept when it comes to making the most of the facilities at hand. However, my family is not and the limited entertainment for my kids at this site was a let down to say the least. My kids 15, 13, and 10 were bored after a couple of days when the novelty of the swimming pools wore off, because basically, thats all there is on site. The beach (1 km away) was windswept and any hope of gaining a tan would be futile as it would be sandblasted off you with the ensuing gale. I deemed the water unsafe for young people as an abrupt shelf lies a couple of meters into the sea. These strange hot winds
were not advertised on the brochure, but were advertised on site. The signs instruct you to fold down umbrellas when not supervised and not to leave any light paraphenalia lying around, probably as it may end up in Spain. On site entertainment was abysmal even for the June period and the site restaurant was very poor and not value for money. Unusually the waitress even acknowledged this and recommended the on site Pizzeria for future ventures and value for money. Look, I'm sounding like a real moan but I feel its thoroughly justified. It wasnt what it said on the brochure. Accomodation was spotless and Eurocamps Rep Tony was very polite and helpful. My advice? Very young kids only and dont rely on the immediate area for exitement. We combatted the boredom with trips to the wonderful Barcelona and the tax free and beautiful Andorra, (both 2 hour drives approx.). There is a Lidl and Hypermarche 2km away. Oh yeah! Argeles sur Mer is a beautiful area with a hive of proper beaches, nighttime entertainment and street traders all vying to take your euro and Canet is a myraid of

We stayed in les tropiques last year in July and I am pleased to say that we will be doing so again this year. It is a lovely, atmospheric campsite with lovely features such as its fun, exciting swimming pools, it's lovely bakery and the local fruit shop. It is very near the beach, with only a 5 minute route to the sea. The swimming pools are large, blue and exciting as they have three pools with two very large flumes which are exciting for children and adults. The entertainment was good for children and was exciting and as cheesy and any other campsite. The only criticism that I would make would be the largest swimming pool was beautiful but the amount of chlorine stung the eyes and was uncomfortable after ten minutes, however it was an amazing holiday mainly due to the beautiful campsite and the friendly atmosphere.

Just returned from a wonderful weeks holiday at Les Tropiques. The campsite itself is pleasant and our horizon caravan was clean and modern unlike the chinzy caravans you get in England. The Eurocamp reps Tony and Joan were lovely and were always doing the rounds making sure you were alright. They were so helpful e.g. getting directions, printing stuff off the internet for people and letting us borrow their scales to weigh our luggage.

We flew to Perpignan via Ryan Air (hence the need for scales!) but had no problems as we obeyed their rules to the letter. We did not hire a car but got a taxi at the airport that only cost 35 euros as the driver took the most direct route. The transfer would have cost 51 Euros online & Tony said the normal fare is 50 Euros.

You can do without a car if you do not want to sightsee as the beach is 10 mins walk and there is a small Spar shop, butcher, fruit/veg store, hot food stall, pizza takeaway etc within walking distance. You can buy plastic containers of the very drinkable local wine in the fruit stores for a few euros! The main supermarkets are a short drive away. As well as the restaurant on site you can use another Les Dunes on an adjacent campsite and there are a couple of restaurants on the beach and a decent restaurant "Miami Beach" with efficient service on the way to the beach.

The beach is lovely and stretches for miles and the sea crystal clear although it gets very deep within a few metres. There are nice cycle routes suitable for young familes.

Most of the clientele are French & other European-there are very few Brits which is a good or bad thing depending on your point of view! The entertainment is therefore aimed at the French. The younger children say up to 8 and older teenagers are well catered for but not much for those in the middle (mine are 9 & 11) but we have found this to be the case at a lot of european resorts. We went with two other families with girls of similar ages so they entertained themselves.
The entrtainment on an adjacent campsite was very loud.

The slides in the swimming pools are good but the pools themselves are a bit small and not good for proper swimming. The stupid no beach shorts in the pools rule is strictly enforced so prepare for bad speedo wearing! Olympic style shorts/trunks with no pockets are acceptable & available on site. I was annoyed when one of the girls in our party was hurt by another child going down the slide too close to her which the lifeguards were not monitoring but she got told off straightaway for putting her shoes on in the pool area (another petty rule).

Our friends drove down and one day some of us went for trip up into the mountains to see a castle and swim in the gorges-the scenery is breathtaking in places and well worth a trip.

The weather was great above 30 degrees but there was normally a breeze around to keep you from getting too hot especially on the beach. Air con is essential in the caravan though.

On the whole I would recommend this campsite especially if you are travelling with another family.
