“Westward Ho!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

Been here for the last 4 years and it is one of the best resorts we know. The beach is fantastic. The resort itself is quiet and good for families. It is a good base for exploring North Devon, Will be returning as soon as we can

Room Tip: Fantastic location, beach and the views from the chalet are unbeatable

We have just returned from Braddicks were we stayed in the Tors Caravan which were new this year! Braddicks is only a 5 minute walk to the town which has plenty of eating places, arcades, and shops. The sandy part of the beach is only 10 minutes walk but if you want to go rock pooling it's literally on your door step! There is also a sea swimming pool for the little ones which is great as it is slightly warmer than the sea. Braddicks itself is friendly, clean and non commercial unlike Haven or Park Resorts but we prefer it that way. There is an hour of kids entertainment, an hour of bingo then a caberet/disco and for us it was perfect! Braddicks also has a fine restaurant with views over the sea although not cheap, the food was lovely. My only thing I wish they had was a small shop which sold tea, coffee, milk and sugar as it is a walk if you need a cuppa!

I would 100% stay again as if the weather is good you don't need to drive about as there is plenty to do in Westward Ho, surfing, rock pooling, go karting, crazy golf, arcades and lovely walks.

Room Tip: The Tors are fantastic as they have a balcony and sea views!

I have been coming to Braddicks on and off since a child 50 years ago. Things have changed over the years, and the original site is now split into two, one called “Braddicks” and one “Ian Braddicks Seafield “. The latter is basically beyond the Pier House and seems to have older caravans and chalets.
We stayed on the “Braddicks” part and had a new-for-2013 caravan “The Tors”. It was a 12 ft wide van, sleeping up to 6 in a master bedroom with king size bed, a twin room and a sofa bed in the lounge area. The master bedroom had an en suite toilet, and there was a separate “family toilet” with a good sized shower.
The twin beds were probably only 6ft 3in long, so a bit short for an adult. Duvets were provided, but no towels etc.
The van had a full sized gas cooker, freezer and fridge, plus flat screen tv and DVD player. There was a verandah out front with a picnic table so you could breakfast or dine looking out over Bideford Bay towards Lundy Island. The sun in July was always on the verandah.
Parking was occasionally hard as the vans were by the Pier House, and this was well used by offsite customers.
The reception staff and management were very pleasant and helpful. The other staff- eg maintenance and cleaning- were not rude but did not engage.
We did have an issue with a wedding party who used part of the Pier House and some of whom stayed on overnight in the caravan next to ours. They were noisy until about 2 am, when we asked them to be quiet (and they were from then on). We drew the event to the site manager’s attention next day, and got a rapid and helpful response. We suggested that when a late event took place involving people staying on site, a member of staff might well be appointed to walk around half an hour or so after the event finished to check. He said he’d taken this on board.
We did not ourselves eat in the Pier House. The menu looked ok but not perhaps the sort and price of food that might appeal to the site’s core clientele. It was evidently popular with incomers and was veering towards gastropub fare ; we would have liked a bar snack option.
The site is virtually directly on the sea front with only a footpath between; there is however no beach at this particular point. The path goes into Westward Ho! in one direction, which of course has a large sandy beach. It’s about 10 mins walk, and on the way is a sea swimming pool. In the other direction the path follows a former railway track along the coast for about 1 mile, so providing a very easy and scenic walk. Lots of wild flowers. After the train track part it continues as a normal path, up hill and down dale as far as you wish to go.
Behind the site are the Kipling Tors, National Trust, and you can walk along several paths at various heights here.
For shopping, we used Morrison’s in Bideford, which was a pleasant and spacious store. There are only a couple of small shops in Westward Ho! Parking there is either expensive or as rare as hen’s teeth.
The location is overall a very good holiday destination, particularly good for walking and for visiting Devon’s many attractions. The site is very good, although not quite perfect.

The location of Braddicks is fantastic, overlooking sea. We stayed in a Lundy View caravan, which I think have the best view in the park. The caravan was clean and well equipped and I would thoroughly recommend Braddicks to anyone. It is a short walk to Westward Ho! and also well placed for walks along coastal path. We didn't want to come home and will almost certainly book here again, hopefully next year. We were lucky that the weather was good whilst we were there but, even if it rained, looking out to sea would still be wonderful. We were there for two weeks but are thinking of booking for three weeks next time, it is that good!

Room Tip: I think Lundy View have best view, but The Tors are new caravans & I would think have quite a go...

Stayed in a beach view chalet last week. Recently redecorated and absolutely spotless. Did have to get the man in to repair a window catch which was broken. He arrived within ten minutes of reporting it. Well furnished and very comfortable bed and pillows. Lovely and bright kitchen and bathroom with loads of hot water. Enjoyed Westward Ho! so much have booked again at Braddicks for September but this time in a Decks Chalet with a balcony and views over the bay.
