fabulous newly opened hickorys, booked a table for the 2nd night. There is a good sized carpark, which was fairly full and as it was 5.30pm I would imagine it would be overflowing later on (being a saturday)Our table was not quite ready so went for a drink first, the bar didnt have a lot of room for people waiting for tables , probably not quite the place for just going for a drink, as the price was quite high £6.45 for a pint of beer and a half shandy. There was a good atmosphere with music and there was quite a buzz mainly because it was new and the refurb was really smart. There was quite a good choice for the smoked or unsmoked meals, and on the table was bag of popcorn and a large bottle of water together with a choice of sauces,The waitress came fairly quickly and introduced herself, and asked if we would like an explanation of the menu which was good, it helped to know exactly how the food was served, and what extras we may have liked. We went straight to the main courses and ordered a smoked dish and a non smoked dish, the food came fairly prompt and was delicious, we also decided on a sweet, which was also delicious. When the bill came we were delighted to find the popcorn and the water were not added, as this is usually the case, so that was a bonus. Price wise the food was reasonable, as the portions were very generous. There is a need for this type of eatery in this area, and I know a few people who have even travelled to Hickorys in Chester, so being on our doorstep is fantastic.

My daughter has raved about Hickory's in Chester for years. So we were delighted when she managed to get a table for the family on opening night in Rhos-on-Sea. I wasn't sure what to expect, but came away having had a really enjoyable night, and having found a great new "local". We were greeted at the door with a huge smile and shown to our table. A bag of salted popcorn magically appeared and our server, Tamara, introduced herself and took our drinks order. The menu is predominantly meat based, and I chose a Louisiana steak blackened with authentic cajun spices. I have to say this turned out to be one of the nicest steaks I've ever eaten. It was cooked perfectly, and was juicy, succulent, and had just the right amount of spice from the rub. I was a little disappointed that there didn't seem to be much in the way of real ale on the drinks menu, but then ran into Craig (ex Red Lion, Old Colwyn) who pointed out Reverend James and Hickorys Ale!
The atmosphere at Hickory's is both relaxed and lively, with a great soundtrack, live sport on screens behind the bar (authentic american sports bar feel), and a chill-out room for teens. There's also a hidden green room with a wall sized screen which will get plenty of use during sports tournaments.
Given that this is The Ship reinvented, they could so easily have got it wrong. In my opinion, Hickory's have got it exactly right. I'm looking forward to our next visit already!

Hickorys has arrived, in Rhos on Sea, after much success in Chester and West Kirby, this incredibly talented team of restauranteurs have created a style, unique to Hickorys, a true authentic American dinning experience, and drinking hub, outside social areas and great for couples, family's and groups, the layout allows for almost any occasion.

I do not know of anything like it in wales, and it will certainly be a wake up call to all other establishments, as these guys will keep raising the bar, and as such, show how a great concept really works.
The team working in the rhos on sea bar restaurant, are truly committed, and on my first visit, I can tell you they know how to look after you, and ensure your visit is a good one, with a promise of return.
The outside garden area is very customer friendly, plenty of parking, and secure room fir the kids.
Very attractive parasols and seating provide a brilliant aspect to the overall image of people gathering together to relax and enjoy.
The entrance, of which there are two, bring you into a most impressive bar area, the kitchen makes a fantastic backdrop to an incredible decor, it is as if you have traveled west, arrived in an American bar restaurant with the perfect backdrop of exposed brickwork and wood, the music flowing and the atmosphere infectious, color scheme is easy on the eye and the staff attentive and very obliging.
The layout is on three levels, each with its own offer, of family dinning, couples or parties, the bar is well stocked and wanting for nothing, the walls are adorned with the sauces and flavones bottled or jarred, ready to go as a purchase if you like them when having your meal, I can recommend the jalapeño mustard, that brings a tear to the eyes.
The table we were shown to was of good size, the service that followed impeccable, the young man who served us was very good, our choice from the menu was easy, as the menu is the same as in all the hickory establishments, a nice bottle of wine, water served ice cold, and a taster of garlic bread, I like it hot and garlic full, so I always order mine as follows, fresh onion, extra garlic, extra chilli, and then topped with cheese, it is delicious, a house special T Hickorys for me.
The starter was chicken sticks in a breaded coT, this is made adding chilli into the mix and it's hot and fiery, the main was steak, great portion lovingly cooked to my taste, medium rare, and a large chili to decorate or to eat, my brother had wife had a platter, and we were convinced there was enough for a party of 4 let alone 2, that was presented well and of good selection, brisket, ribs, frays, pulled pork ect ect, my wife had prawns large juicy prawns as a starter, with a coat of light batter, delicious, her main was steak same as mine, both steaks cooked to perfection.
The whole night was buzzing, the slick and seamless movement from kitchen to table was something to watch, it was culinary magic, the staff played each table making sure everyone was happy, content and wanting more.
Easy happy staff that showed how much they appreciated you being there will for me ensure that like chester and west Kirby this eatery/ bar in Rhos On Sea will be well met, supported and recommended by all who like me appreciate a really great place to chill, to hang out or to take the family.
Go and go soon you will not be disappointed, enjoy....
