We travelled to Papeete then on to Moorea Island on the 23rd of December until the 5th of January staying at the Intercontinental. My wife, my son and I found the Island to be absolutely stunning with the people, the local cuisine and activities exceptional. The resort provided everything we expected with a magnificent over water bungalow near the dolphin enclosure - roll out of bed and straight into the lagoon which was around 20 feet deep off our verandah and crystal clear!! Activities at the resort, while somewhat expensive, allowed for a wide range of things to do catering for all age groups and fitness levels. The rooms, pools, bars etc were well maintained and the cleanliness was exceptional. A big thank you to Josieana (apologies if the spelling is incorrect!!) who was working as a concierge and made our stay so much better by being the most helpful, wonderful lady!! Overall, our stay at the Intercontinental was great and we all agree that it was our best family holiday yet with all of us taking memories away that will stay with us forever!! If there is one criticism of the Intercontinental we found the menu in the restaurants to be quite restrictive and expensive when compared with local restaurants- after 3 or 4 days the menu was very repetitive but that is to be expected. I would recommend The Intercontinental Resort Moorea Island to anyone, we enjoyed our stay and I believe that there is value to be had comparative to other resorts in French Polynesia. Thanks for a memorable holiday, we will definitely be back!! A beautiful place with magnificent people and local cuisine, a pleasure!!!

Dear Matthew,
Ia Orana from Moorea !
Thank you for your lovely comment.
I am delighted to hear that you feel you made the right choice! Moorea is a very beautiful Island and the property itself is indeed very special. As you rightfully mention it is also the small details and attention that make a difference.
Rest assured that I will pass your thank you at Josiane.

My husband and I spent our first 5 nights of our honeymoon here before staying the next 5 nights at the ICH Thalasso in Bora Bora. If you feel you have to see more than one island (as we did) save Bora Bora to last, as it is everything you hoped and dreamed it would be, Moorea, not as much. We would have rather only have done 2 nights in Moorea and 8 in Bora Bora than 5 and 5.
We weren't greeted when we arrived. We dropped our bags with the Bellman (the friendliest and happiest employee at the hotel!) and headed to the check-in desk. Only to wait and then be told, no you don't check-in here, you check in at the bar. We head to the bar, only to be told, no not here, on the other side of the bar. Wow, okay, we've been up for almost 30 hours, thanks for making this easy! When we made it to the right check-in area, we were greeted with cold towels and a drink, very nice. We then produced our Ambassador Card, and this totally shocked them, they had no record of our status even though we had confirmation that they received our card number. We were told there was no upgrade as we had the best room (we did end up having a great room with what we thought was the best view and an amazing breeze room 522) but there were 4 rooms better than this.
The bungalow was clean but tired. We had champagne and a fresh pineapple waiting in our room for us, as well as bottled water, an our Ambassador gift. We had zero water pressure however, it dribble from the shower head, this was never looked after. The housekeeping staff are great, very happy and very good at what they do, our room was also very clean with fresh towels and toiletries. Our private deck and view were AMAZING! We spent very little time at the beach (just okay) and never went in the pool (full of tiny children with diapers).
The hotel grounds are beautiful and the Turtle Sanctuary and Dolphin Centre are great additions.
The beach is okay, and the beach furniture is tired and broken.
We never went in the pools, they are very nice, however, we have NEVER seen this many babies, toddlers and children at a resort as we did here! Not to mention, little boys ripping off their swim trunks and peeing in the flowers right beside the pool, a daily occurrence, we felt like we were at Disney! Not what we wanted on our honeymoon. We found out later that Moorea is more of a discount and family island than a romantic honeymoon getaway.
Food was okay, not great. Drinks were nice, happy hour is the time to drink them, 2 for 1. The staff were pleasant but we felt like we were always inconveniencing them when asking for something.
It was nice to be able to have free snorkel equipment, kayaks and paddle boards. We snorkeled around our bungalows and the resort everyday!
We ate off the resort whenever we could. Breakfast was included, from 6:30-10:30am every morning. We made the mistake of going at 9am the first morning only to find everything picked over, empty, and the staff not refilling it. We started going at 7:30-8am, there was more selection and food but lots of families and screaming children. We ate lunch at a local Motu down the street, best pizza on the island! And the locals eat there, good sign. Dinner was also better off the resort, but check on Trip Advisor, not the concierge, they aren't very helpful. Coco D'isle, AmAZING! Great local food and you have to have the tuna with some Pineapple wine! La Sunset had great pizza and a great view! Both restaurants came and picked us up and dropped us off free of charge! We wanted to eat at The Legends, across the street from the resort but couldn't get a reservation (we were there over Christmas).
If you are looking for a 5 star luxury honeymoon experience, this isn't it. Don't waste your time or money in Moorea, head to the ICH Talasso in Bora Bora.

Room Tip: An east or north facing room will give you a great breeze and snorkeling!

Dear guests,

First of all, thank you for your feedback.
We are sorry to hear of the frustrations you experienced and rest assured that these issues will be addressed.
Whilst French Polynesia remains primarily a romantic destination, one must not forget that Christmas is a family holiday and that you can therefore expect a greater number of children at this time of year.
Thank you again for your visit.

Sincerely,

We stayed at the InterContinental Moorea for 4 nights as the first leg of our honeymoon. When my husband and I walked in we were greeted with a drink (unfortunately it was non-alcoholic) but a drink nevertheless. I thought that the lobby would have us in awe but it was just average. Nothing spectacular. We had been traveling for about 23 hours and really just wanted to get to our bungalow and relax. A hostess came over asked us to fill out some paperwork, which added another 30 minutes onto our already exhausting trip. Upon completion a bell man ushered us to a golf cart and took us to our room which was quite a distance from the lobby.
When we got to our bungalow it was nice but since we were in Tahiti we expected so much more!! The hotel put us in the bungalow closest and pretty much on top of the coral reef. Therefore we could not really swim or dive from our room. It was quite disappointing since we paid quite a bit of money for the bungalow. When we asked to be transferred to another room the front desk receptionist said that they did not have any others available for another couple of nights. Only the beach bungalows were available. I just said forget it. Who wants to move after they have settled into their rooms for two days?
We decided to buy the meal plan through the travel agent because the food was extremely expensive but we expected that. I was disappointed in the quality of the food on the resort. It was less than average. The breakfast buffet was pretty bad, lunch was alright and dinner was not great either. The silver lining…the activities were great and when we were off of the resort and saw Moorea it was absolutely breathtaking. The deep sea helmet dive was fantastic. Jet skiing on the crystal aqua blue water was amazing (and you get to stop and swim with the sharks and sting rays) and you have to do the ATV’s. The island is absolutely amazing!! The hotel on the other hand is just average and that is generously speaking. Fortunately our stay at the Sofitel private island was phenomenal!!

Room Tip: We stayed at the InterContinental Moorea for 4 nights as the first leg of our honeymoon. When my hus...

Dear Guests,
We completely understand the frustration in having to wait for your room (as in all hotels of the world) after a long flight. The check-in experience is a bit more difficult to explain, indeed we seat our guests to welcome them with a fruit punch and put them at ease to fill in their registration forms.
Finally, we are sorry to see that our restaurants were not to your liking. Overall, we receive very positive feedback however we understand that culinary preferences are very dependent on individual experiences and tastes and are sorry that we did not meet your expectations.
We are pleased to see that you enjoyed our different activities and the beautiful Island Moorea.
Sincerely,

Staff are being extremely helpful in assisting me with a piece of jewellery I left in the safe. After emailing an enquiry as to the piece being found. We were asked to send a photo to identify the item which had been handed to management by the housekeeping staff. My item will be coming home this year as it had to be valued to satisfy Australian Customs. Thanks to the honesty and helpfulness of the Intercontinental in Moorea

Room Tip: They are all great.

In January this year, my husband and I stayed in an over water bungalow in this resort for a week. We we're situated over a lagoon looking out to the ocean where we could hear the waves crashing over the reef. The marine life we saw from our balcony can only be described as amazing. At different times of day and night, it changed. It was illuminated under our bungalow when darkness fell, which only added to the magic. The service in this hotel was very good. You could choose the time of day that you wished to have your bungalow cleaned. The hotel has housed a dolphin sanctuary now for 11 years, and is accredited internationally for it's care. You are able to swim with these amazing creatures which is a real treat! There is also a sea turtle sanctuary where injured turtles are nursed back to health and reintroduced to the ocean. The resort has a series of lagoons that you can walk through with your reef shoes to see all kinds of marine life. The layout of the resort makes individual rooms feel very private and the scenery around it is truly spectacular. Service is very good and the staff are most accommodating.
This resort is very relaxing and quiet, although there are many water activitIes offered.

Room Tip: You can choose from a real variety of rooms. There are regular hotel rooms, and villas in the garde...

Me and husband stayed at the InterContinental Moorea for 4 nights of our honeymoon before heading to Bora Bora and we had an AMAZING time. The resort was exactly what we were looking for. We stayed in a Beach Bungalow facing the lagoon and since it was set back a little from the water, it felt very private while we were on our deck. We loved snorkeling in the lagoon and saw many exotic fish and even a few stingrays (definitely bring an underwater camera). They also have free kayaks for guests to take out, and stand up paddle boards are available for rental.
We had breakfast included in our package so we took advantage of that, however I do think they would benefit from a little more variety. We ordered room service our first night as we were tired from traveling, and it was great. Then we ate off the resort the rest of the trip, the concierge will make your reservation and the restaurant sends a shuttle to transport you to and from. I highly recommend Mayflower (the lobster ravioli was delicious), La Plantation and Coco D'Isle. We definitely plan to return at some point!

Since I was little I have wanted to visit the South Pacific and stay in a hut over the water. My wife and I recently did this in conjunction with the Paul Gauguin cruise. Our hut was a bit further away from the main hotel which gave a feeling of greater privacy. As snorkelers, we would rise each morning and explore the waters. Breakfast was amazing and dinners were great too. Be sure to visit the stingrays and black tip sharks on an excursion or by kayak if you prefer. Highlight for us was swimming with Humpback Whales. Bring your GoPro. Only negative was the cost to swim with the resort dolphins, about $500 per person. It felt like a rip-off and we declined. You can watch them from an adjacent dock as an alternative.
