This was our second rental on Moorea. Alix' welcome was excellent, and she was very helpful throughout the stay, providing toys for our two littlies and sorting out taxis and other bookings. There were seven of us in our party (Three adults, two teenagers, a toddler, and a baby) and we were all accommodated very comfortably. The vibe was very much like our own bach in NZ. The kitchen is well-equipped, with plenty of staples left behind by previous guests. It's about a ten minute walk to the nearest shop, and a drive to the nearest fully-stocked supermarket. There are some restaurants within walking distance, but as most big restaurants on Moorea offer a free shuttle service, that's not an issue really. The snorkelling just a few metres off the beach is excellent (as long as there hasn't been too much rain, when the run-off from the mountains creates a murky, cold layer about half a metre thick). The fact that the weather had been quite wet probably meant there were more mosquitos around than usual, and they were very active - I don't normally react badly to bites, but I did this time. The hammock on the verandah is lovely - lying there with a glass of wine and a book watching the sun sink behind Magic Mountain is heavenly. Would definitely stay here again.
Our first night. Five of us tired and asleep. Left the main bedroom door open only several inches. Burglarized in our rooms as we slept. Theif went under our bed to find my purse and take our iPads, then stole watch from shelf and cash from wallet. Theif then navigated to other bedroom and riffled through luggage while our friends slept. Police were called the next day, but it felt like this was an old story they had heard before. Deposition taken, but no action. A difficult beginning to a vacation we had so anticipated. We felt on edge for most of our stay because we always had to lock and bolt doors especially in the back rooms even while we were there. The night watchman leaves at 3 a m. Doesn’t really make sense but hey...we learned our lesson. But this was our vacation and we were determined to make th best of a bad beginning.
We had 5 adults in the Villa, but one of us had to sleep in the un-air-conditioned loft with 90 degree steps to get up there. I would recommend no more than 4 people since there are two rooms with double beds. Both rooms air-conditioned and comfortable.
Neighbors on the property had their new bathing trunks stolen from the outside line as it was left to dry overnight...so bring your stuff in every night.
We had mosquito repellent and didn’t get bothered too much. We loved the water and the nice little beach outside of our bungalow, and enjoyed snorkeling over the reef every morning, noon and evening right off the beautiful porch.
Alix was very sweet and helpful in making reservations and did her best to accommodate our every request.
Shopping for food was quite expensive if you plan to cook, which we did most of the time. The kitchen was well-equipped and we also enjoyed dining out, particularly when most restaurants actually pick you up and take you back. That was delightful.
Despit the rocky start, we enjoyed our stay and had a wonderful time on Moorea. Be sure to book Maui’s Corallina Tours. His boat is next door and he’s a remarkable guide! We had the time of our lives. And for heaven’s sake DO NOT MISS Cocoa Beach.
Just be careful about locking all the doors.
We will return and thank you for a lovely stay.
My husband and I spent a week at Robinson’s Cove Cook Villa.
We flew from Bora Bora to Moorea, rented a car from Avis, stopped at Champion grocery store for supplies, and met Alix at the rental.
Alix gave us a tour and information about the villa and area. She lives next door if you need anything.
The house was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed (except a blender) . . . coffee and maker, dishes, glasses, foil, olive oil, grill and charcoal, soap, paper toweling, towels including for the beach, etc.
The bed was comfortable, A/C worked great, and the open-air bathroom/shower was beautiful.
We enjoyed daily visits from the resistant dogs, Pepsi and C-Bullet. . . they are so sweet and well behaved.
Opunohu bay is gorgeous. We enjoyed kayaking, snorkeling, sunsets, and watching the boats and cruise ships come and go.
Driving around Moorea is slow and easy so don’t hesitate to rent a car. There is a Super U grocery store close to the rental, several beaches, activities, and plenty of places to eat and drink.
We drove around the island once and visited several beaches during our stay. Stingrays are everywhere and will swim right up to you because a lot of people feed them.
I highly recommend renting a boat for a day from Manahere Adventures. It’s a very small boat with 6 hp motor but really all you need to visit the nearby Motu’s, beaches, snorkel, swim and eat at Coco Beach . . . a must! An incredible day!
Other things I would recommend: Belvedere Lookout, Manutea Tahiti – Rotui Juice Factory & Distillery.
We enjoyed meals at Snack Mahana, Rudy’s, Allo Pizza, and Coco Beach Moorea. I did not enjoy my experience at Holy Steak House. We also bought fresh tuna on the side of the road to BBQ . . . it was inexpensive and delicious!
Cons and recommendations:
I was intimidated and concerned about all the warnings about theft and break-ins at this property (there was one the week before we arrived). We are avid travelers and are not used to having to take the extra time to make sure all our valuables were locked in a safe, and windows and doors were all closed and locked . . . especially when we are at the property, sleeping, etc. We did as we were told and did not have any issues but it was a time consuming and made me uneasy.
The WIFI was inconsistent, however, better than our experience on Bora Bora.
Portable beach chairs would be a great addition to this rental.
Install a pocket or a barn type door for the interior bathroom to improve access and usability.
The mosquitoes were horrible . . . even with the repellent provided, which we used all day every day, we still managed to get bit. We kept all the doors closed to limit the number of them getting inside the house, however, some still managed to find a way in.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.
We stayed for 20 wonderful nights at Robinson Cove Villas, Villa Cook. The house was perfect for the six of us. Denis, the owner and his staff were exceptionally gracious and accommodating. They went out of their way to make sure that the one of us with a handicap would be comfortable. The pictures of the house are great but they can't begin to capture the incredible beauty of this place or the sound of the gently lapping waves at your doorstep. We used the kayaks everyday and several times were greeted in the cove by whales and dolphins! We snorkeled right off the beach and rented their car to buzz around the island. Alix, the caretaker was wonderful and her two dogs, Pepsi and Ciboulette made us feel at home. Though it may seem a little expensive, we saved a lot of money shopping for local food and cooking at the house. Wonderful meals were prepared in the well stocked kitchen and eaten on the deck while watching the sunset. This place is truly a small piece of paradise and we highly recommend staying at Robinson Cove Villas!
This was our second visit staying at Villa Cook.. Hopefully, there will be more.
Wonderful place to stay. Wonderful to know that places like this still exist.
Quiet, without flashing lights or advertisements anywhere.. Only the incredible show of stars at night.
.. Having the calm waters just a few feet from your deck and being able to snorkel several times a day without leaving your doorsteps is such a treat.
Beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped.
The welcome bottle of Champagne was very much appreciated !
Restaurant prices are very high on Moorea so cooking at home was a great alternative.
Whenever we had a question, Alix was always available.
A very special thanks, Alix, for making us feel at home.
My wife and I were on our 30th Wedding Anniversary and spent 5 days at Beach Villa Cook. It was truly a magical experience and everything we had hoped for in a tropical vacation. Villa Cook was everything promised and more as pictures cannot fully capture the beauty and peacefulness on this location. When we arrived in Moorea we were met promptly by the car service and taken directly to the house. We were met there by Alix who showed us the property and answered all of our questions. The house itself was perfect for our needs. We loved that we had a private beach steps from our bedroom and had the ability to make breakfast or lunch on our own or choose to use the available car to go for a nice meal. The snorkeling from the property was fantastic and we used the double kayak a couple times for an early morning or sunset paddle in one of the most beautiful lagoons in the world. Villa Cook was simply fantastic and we would recommend this property to anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful break from reality in one of the most beautiful settings available.
We stayed at the Cook Villa for a week in Moorea. They were very helpful arranging everything on line via email. We were met at the Aramiti Ferry by a taxi and dropped off by a taxi on our departure. We had the rental car we requested waiting at the house. You'll need a car to go to the market and see the sights. Some restaurants and tours will pick you up at the house for no extra fee. The house has a lovely deck with chairs, table, beach and a hammock overlooking the Opanahu bay. It's very peaceful and private. You can walk out in the water, swim and snorkel, and see plenty of fish. About 15 yards out the reef drops off and gets fairly deep. There were so many beautiful fish! We spent a lot of time just snorkeling off the beach at the house. There are also kayaks available but it was a bit windy so we didn't take them out. The house has two downstairs bedrooms (both with air conditioning) and an upstairs loft with additional beds. It really was way too hot to sleep upstairs so our girls just doubled up in the second bedroom. The guest room bath is outside (but pretty and private). The Master bedroom sink and shower are also outside. There is a small bathroom with a toilet and sink inside if you need the rest room at night. They are very safety conscious and all the doors have a deadbolt. In addition the concierge Alix told us there is a security guard on the property from 9pm to about 5 am. I never saw anyone but I'll take her word for that. The kitchen is small but well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, and any gadget you could need. You will need to get bottled water as the tap water is not potable. (They are working on the water lines and by next year the water may be ok). There is also a washer and dryer off the kitchen. There is Wifi and it worked fairly well depending on how any people were using the network. Moorea was a refreshing change from the chaos of Tahiti. It's a more authentic Polynesian experience where you live like the locals. There are plenty of opportunities to go out on a boat or jet ski and snorkel in aqua blue water. The scenery is absolutely stunning. It also seemed cooler with the mountains and the breeze from the Bay. We enjoyed our quiet little retreat on the bay. It's a good alternative to the fabulously expensive resorts on the island.
