“A little slice of Heaven right in the middle of Paradise!”

My wife and I started dreaming of French Polynesia before we were married 22 years ago. In those 22 years we have been blessed to travel to many wonderful places on this beautiful planet however we never had the opportunity to visit Moorea/Tahiti...until now. In our initial search we had to decide if we wanted the restaurants, lounges and conveniences that went along with the resorts but knew we would have to pay for those conveniences not only with cash but also in lack of privacy, and "resort" feel that we could get many other places in the world.
After ruling out the resorts we started looking for a home to rent and Villa Cook at Robinson’s Cove immediately stood out as the best option for the two of us due to the size, proximity to the water, price, privacy, recreation and ability to create our own meals and drinks at home.
Denis, the owner, was great to work with and very thorough in explaining the Villa Cook, amenities, and things to see and do on Moorea.
Alix, the Concierge, was wonderful and welcoming when we arrived.
Villa Cook was beautiful, clean, and well laid out, but what is really important is location, location, location. The views were out of this
world!
Our main concern before arriving was privacy. We weren't sure with the sliding glass door of our bedroom only being a couple steps from the beach/bay if we would have people walking by and if privacy would be limited. This turned out to not be a concern at all! We felt that the privacy was great everywhere from the backyard, or deck, beach, or outdoor showers.
We chose to include Denis' car in our rental which was a great decision. We used the car everyday which was great whether we just needed to run to the store, go to church, or drive all the way around the island.
It was great to be able to snorkel/kayak right out of our door.
We went horseback riding close to Robinson’s Cove, visited two different Motus, we were welcomed to one of the oldest churches in Moorea on Sunday, bought fresh shrimp and grilled them on the Bar-B-Q at home one night and fresh Tuna steaks another night.
With 4 children waiting for us back home in the States we have always been ready to go home after our couple's vacations in the past. We can't tell you how difficult it was to leave Robinson's Cove, Villa Cook, and the beautiful people, landscape, and water of Moorea. We loved everything about it!
We realize that privacy, uninterrupted one-on-one time, outdoor showers, being able to create home-made meals and drinks and enjoy them in paradise might not appeal to everyone, but to us it made it a vacation of a lifetime! We miss it already. We hope to be back again soon!

Well now that you are spellbound by the place, you will have to come back! Having your own little private beach steps from the bedroom is indeed a treat not many Vacation Rentals have in Moorea. Also and that makes a HUGE difference, our property is facing the calm lagoon waters and not the ocean. You have to be aware in Moorea many beach houses are for rent in a place called Temae... what nobody tells you is Temae is in fact directly facing the ocean (!) and one feels like being in Australia (no harm to our Aussies friends!) rather than in Polynesia, not even mentioning the noise of the waves all day and night! Well... we prefer the gentle sound of the lagoon lapping our feet :) . Denis, management.

“Robin's Cove Villa Cook - Great property in a Picture Postcard Setting”

This is a GREAT property to stay in while on Moorea. Five of us stayed there for 5 nights in August 2016, but it can accommodate more than that. The location on Opunohu Bay is great, the cost is actually quite reasonable, and the views of/access to the bay it affords are spectacular! I was really pleased to see that you do literally walk right out the villa and can snorkel right there: the waterline is maybe 6 ft from the villa porch! Its shallow water (~3 ft deep) up to about 50' from the waterline, and then drops off to over 30' deep - lots of opportunities to see cool fish! Denis was extremely helpful and accommodating in planning and setting up the stay - he was especially helpful helping us coordinate transportation between Papeete and Moorea. The property manager Alix is a dream - she helped us arrange ground transportation, and answered a variety of day to day questions for us...perfect! We ended up using both ground floor bedrooms (each has a spectacular outdoor shower!), as well as one of the beds up in the loft. The loft bed location might not be the best option for very small children, or for folks who have difficulty climbing - it is accessed via a quite steep ladder, but it worked absolutely great for us. The porch is large enough for everyone to be seated comfortably, and the outdoor grill (you'll need to buy charcoal - "charbon" in French) came in handy for virtually every evening meal. The car that came with the property was really helpful...very convenient, since it got great mileage, and we did not need to hassle with turning it in to a car dealership at end of stay. Other things we liked about the stay included the free sea kayaks and snorkel gear, the hammock on the porch, the breezy layout of the main room and it's full width sliding glass door/windows, and the villa's location in Opunohu, which was about center for most of the island activities we participated in (just up the road from several fruit stands, as well as a fresh shrimp stand on Wednesdays, and the pearl shops in Maharepa and Tiahura/Hauru, as well as croissants at Maharepa's Cafe Carameline. Not sure what other things I can say - overall, I was very pleased with this rental! I would gladly stay there again, and will recommend this to my friends!

We had tried to book this villa for our entire stay but they are very popular and we could only get 9 nights. The villa was lovely with wonderful views up and down the lagoon of Robinsons cove. The villa was very well stocked with basics - much more than I had expected. Our landlady was lovely and very helpful when we needed information.Mostly we didnt need anything other than this beautiful lagoon with the best snorkelling we have had anywhere and only 30 ft from the waters edge is a huge dropoff of a coral wall. We got to know the resident fish after 9 days and what an amazing variety of life. At least two swims a day were mandatory! Kayaks and motor boat also available as is a small charcoal grill alondside the deck (big enough for a couple of steaks!)
Places we ate - Pizza Alto, Moorea beach Cafe, Mayflower. All excellent but not cheap.
Local supermarkets carry most basics - and all have the lovely TAhiti rosé that we were very fond of! Buy mosquito coils and burn them on the dec at all times - cuts down the population!
This villa has an upstairs bedroom for probably 4 people but didnt like the ladder up much.
Lovely bathrooms - bed very comfortable and despite the fact it is right on the roadside - the traffic is not too bad.
Oh also there are two dogs on the property - Im sure they will stay away if you want but they became a welcome part of our stay (outside)
We would return in a heartbeat!

Thank you for your review! Having the dropoff right off the beach is a treat indeed. Being in the bay, the waters are very calm too because there is no surge, unlike when facing the reef. We hope you will return in the near future. Denis, owner.

“Paradise - excellent snorkeling”
Reviewed October 7, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We stayed about two weeks in the Hibiscus Villa before taking our Windspirit cruise. We loved the location on the gorgeous Oponupi Bay. It rained a lot - surprise it is a rain forest. With our central location, we were able to drive to either end of the island for sun (car is necessary).

The villas are are just like the photos - very well maintained and beautiful. There's enough space in between each villa for privacy. The views are WOW!

Snorkeling was important to us. Each villa has a beautiful and very neatly kept beach. There's a short amount of sand (maybe 5 - 8 ft into the water), then you come to a reef. The reef offers excellent snorkeling. From the reef, there is a steep drop off.....very fun to snorkel along. We saw a shark about nine feet long. We enjoyed lounging on their beach chairs while soaking up the sun. Plenty of shade is available if that's what you like. Reef shoes are a must.

We appreciated the suggestions they made in their book (available in the room). They give suggestions about everything from meals (we loved the crab stuffed Parrot fish at Rudys) to the excursions (Coco Beach was wonderful) to massages (we did that twice...price was reasonable and wow! a massage in your own provide gazebo on the bay)

In the book they suggest locking up all valuables in your safe. We did that except one night. That night someone came in our room while we were sleeping and stole all our cash. We are light sleepers, but the ceiling fan was too loud to hear them. They were very "courteous" thieves for leaving our debit card, credit cards, and my wedding ring. Two other villas were also burglarized that night. Our neighbor fell a sleep on their deck hammock when the burglar walked passed him, entered their villa and took all their cash and even stole juice from their refrigerator. The other villa, claimed they locked their doors, also was burglarized. From what other Americans living on the island told us, this is a problem all over the islands. They believe it's teenagers. These villas have better security than most. They have done an excellent job with a high privicy fence surrounding the property. You will be given an electronic remote to open the gate. There are also motion sensor lights on several of the villas. The point is no matter where you stay, make sure you have a safe and use it even when you are in the room.

We really appreciated the washer and dryer! we've never had to do so much laundry....it was so hot and humid compared to what we are used to. We went through more clothes than expected. Forget about packing clothing with even short sleeves. We lived in our swimsuits (bring at least three) and sleeveless shirts & shorts. hey provided a nice clothesline. But with the humidity, most days, nothing would dry.

We also appreciated the apartment size refrigerator and freezer. The freezer wasn't big enough to keep up making ice for our use. We bought it at the nearest gas station and kept it in the freezer and cooler (they provide a small cooler). There's also a coffee maker and a very powerful microwave. There's no oven (too hot!!!!). They provide a butane burner stove and a very small cast iron grill. The kitchen is very workable. We ate our meals out under the gazebo enjoying the beautiful views.

The bathroom is spacious and beautiful. The shower had nice pressure. The water is solar heated, so if there's three (in our case it was only two) cloudy/rainy days, there's no hot water in the villas. That happened. First, it just takes a sunny day and there's more than enough hot water. Second, it's hot - who wants hot water anyway. Do be prepared for the Mosquitos loving the bathroom and kitchen!!! We ran the fan through the kitchen.

One of things things we loved about staying here was the feeling of being closer to the heart of the people vs a large resort. That comes with good and bad. We LOVED the privacy! These villas are very privite. Part of that means being closer to neighbors. And that we were......the neighbors across the street fought and fought, and when they weren't fighting, they played loud music. Most of the music was ok. We timed them screaming at each other for over three hours - didn't think that was humanly possible. They seemed to respond to the property manager, Alix. She would say something and the next several evenings would be better. There's also a lot of street traffic off and on. Especially loud dirt bikes. Again, privicy comes with a price. You won't escape these noises at other villas....it's the way the road is laid out around the island. You can only escape them at the higher end resorts....but then you give up your privacy including the privite beach. We visited many of the high end resorts and liked Robinson cove MUCH better.

Next time, we will probably stay in another villa. We loved the Hibiscus, especially the amazing gazebo. But got very very irritated with the sound of the ceiling fun and trying to get in and out of the bug netting. With locking up the villa at night, it was just too hot for us. It would be wonderful to have AC in that villa for sleeping.

We also really appreciated Alix, the onsite property manager. She gave us wonderful suggestions for restaurants, stores, and excursions. She was happy to book anything we needed. Alix really made our trip more enjoyable. Her English is really good...especially compared to our French. Anything we needed, Alix was there to serve...THANK YOU ALIX!

We love dogs. Alix has two VERY sweet dogs. They made their regular visits checking in on us. Very polite dogs. We looked forward to their visit. Alix's dogs add to the coziness of the villas. Our suggestion to the owners, let these two sweethearts run lose at night around the villas and do their job. Thieves will not like their barking. At home, we have three dogs outside for bears, mountain lions, and thieves. They only bark when they are doing their job. As for guests, just explain the job the dogs are doing. We would rather have barking dogs than thieves.

Things we wish we knew before our trip: Honk when you arrive at the villas gate - that's their hello (not so in our home area); "lunch" places are called "snack" places and they are only open from 11:00ish to 2:00. Dinner isn't until 6:30. If you arrive on Sunday, the pizza place nearby (Allo pizza) opens at 5:30. Very yummy and good prices........best beautiful amazing beach on the island is at the Sofitel. We spent the day there and loved it! There's an amazing pubic beach next door...we just went to the Sofitel for the comfortable beach chairs and beach bar..........loved the rum and liquor tasting at the distillery close to the villas (free tasting)...the vanilla liquor with coffee was wonderful. There's several ATMs to get cash...we arrived on a Sunday and used American money until we could get to the ATM (Allo pizza takes US dollars). The Pearl shop by the distillery has excellent prices and she does wonderful work. Love the necklaces we purchased from Elizabeth Wong. She gave us such a good discount, we were able to purchase several more necklaces for family. She also helped us with several excursions. Thank you Elizabeth!

Our favorite things about the villa were the amazing snorkeling right off the beach and the gazebo. We loved drinking our morning coffee in those comfy chairs. YES!!!! We want to go back. Hope this review is helpful to other travelers.

Since your stay, we have taken actions against petty thefts you mention: we now have a security guard all night in our premises. This is quite an expensive cost for such a small stucture as ours but necessary and much more efficient than dogs! It is a real shame these thefts happen (this is also why we have a safe in each Villa), but this is the unfortunate consequence from the long economic crisis affecting Tahiti and her islands. We hope you will return and we wanted to thank you so much for the time you took writing your review. This is indeed most valuable for us to improve our services and for future guests evaluating the Islands and our private Vacations Rentals. Best regards. Denis (owner) and Alix (on site manager).

We ran across the Robinson Cove Villa's while searching for a place to stay in Moorea. When my husband looked at the pictures he said - That's the one! From the moment we made our reservations we were treated with such care. Denis is awesome. If I had a question, he would answer it immediately no matter how trivial it was. Alex was great as well upon our arrival she took great care in getting us comfortable with the Villa. The Villa itself is great. We spent 3 nights there and really enjoyed ourselves. Having the beach right there and just to yourself was a great way to end our vacation. I wish every vacation was this wonderful!

“Opunohu Bay Villa offers spaciousness and serenity”

Staying on Moorea in a home instead of a busy hotel, we searched for the perfect chance to have plenty of breathing room for a ten day stay in a location that allowed for access to restaurants and beach time. Villa Cook gave us room to spread out and an incredible view of the jagged mountains of Moorea and Opunohu Bay. Tastefully decorated and fully equipped, the three bedrooms are perfect for a close family with a master a bedroom that overlooks the bay. Air conditioning is in two of the bedrooms and sliding glass doors give you access to the out doors whether you are in the outdoor showers or in the living area. It is a fantastic option for people who wish to be separate yet together. Dining on the deck every night was magical. We experienced a full moon while there and it is the stuff Paul Gauguin must have experienced to become the worlds most appreciated Polynesian artist. The homes Caretaker, Alix was gracious and has a heart the size of all of Polynesia. Working with Denis to get us booked was outstanding. He was resourceful and timely. The kitchen was well stocked just stop in Tahiti to bring your supplies over for food and water - everything else is there (I.e. Spices, cooking supplies, plastic wrap, etc). The layout of the home is master bedroom overlooking bay, 2nd bedroom overlooking garden (with outside access), and third bedroom in the loft above the living room area accessed by ladder. Villa Cook is just perfect for a couple or a family staying together to enjoy paradise. Oh .... Water toys...kayak to explore bay, mask fins and snorkels, all the deck furniture and beach gear including a full sized ice chest to take to the beach! If you are looking for options to cook, relax, avoid the hectic pace of the hotels and stay at Villa Cook.

“Great villa, perfect location!”
Reviewed April 9, 2015 for a stay in March 2015
4
people found this review helpful

In March we stayed in the Villa Cook, the biggest of 4 Robinson’s Cove villas. It was 3 of us. The villa is a 3BR/2BA house with a private beach: waves of the Opunohu Bay were splashing a few meters off the villa’s deck. We also rented a car from the owner.

From the start (e-mail communications with the owner Denis) everything worked fine: we were receiving prompt responses to all our questions and a lot of additional information that helped with the planning of our trip. I read all reviews on TripAdvisor and was a little bit troubled by one review that described a theft in the villa. Last year our rental villa in Italy was robbed: we lost money, credit cards, jewelry, a passport, driver license, etc… -- it was very unpleasant experience, and I didn’t want to go through something like that again. Long story short, something outrages may happen no matter what, but I would like to reassure that the owner of the Villa Cook made everything reasonably possible to secure the villa, including a hidden safe for valuables and good quality sliding doors equipped with some serious locks -- it is totally up to the tenants to keep everything locked and secured. After familiarizing ourselves with the set-up of the property, we felt quite safe.

As requested by the owner, we have paid a security deposit of 700 Euros one month prior to the trip; it was promptly returned on the day of our departure. Check-in and check-out was easy: it was very nice and easy to deal with Alix (the on-site manager). She also helped us to make some phone reservations (in French) and gave good advices during our stay. A bottle of Champagne and a bottle of water on arrival were a nice and much appreciated touch.

The villa was great! It was a real house with a lot of details and comfy touches that make a house a home, not just a place to sleep (as a lot of rental places are). There were interesting lamps, nice art work, shells, etc. The villa includes a living room, kitchen, 2 AC-ed bedrooms on the main floor and yet another (no AC) in the loft (we didn’t use it, simply because did not need to), a small office (or should I say a library) with books and other printed materials, 2 toilets and 2 showers (both showers are outside ones, semi-covered, with beautiful views of the mountains and tropical sky). There was also a lanai: a generous covered porch wrapping around about a half of the villa; in essence, an outdoor living room with an outstanding view, a dining table, coffee table, sofa, hammock, and a couple of nice chaise lounge chairs complete with cushions and pillows – a great area for dining and relaxing. You could open sliding glass doors from living room to the lanai and it would beautifully open up the house. There were also sliding doors in bedrooms. We spent most of our time on the lanai, when not in the Bay, had all our breakfasts there and seen a lot of sunsets. Absolutely beautiful! Breathtaking views in every direction. Modest, but pleasant landscaping in the yard; a lot of flowers.

The villa had a WiFi network (great!), which was a bit slow, but satisfactory for our vacation needs. There was a TV for DVDs; we didn’t watch. A local land line phone was very helpful for reservations (our US cell phones didn’t work). We used Skype for international phone calls. All outlets in the villa were European (for round tips), however many of them were actually dual (European/USA) use, and – moreover – in each shower room there was a 110V outlet: pretty thoughtful by the owner and well appreciated by us.

On the beach, coral reef starts almost right from the shore - water shoes are a must-have. The reef itself seemed to be in a good shape, so that you can observe plenty of coral reef life. Be aware that 10-12 m from the shore there is a steep drop: reef is going deep down quite abruptly. The drop was first pointed out to us by Alix, but it is also easily noticeable by the change in water color. Overall, it was an interesting place for snorkeling. On one occasion we even saw a moray eel, for better or worse. There also were 2 tandem kayaks on the property available to us anytime we wanted. We used them almost every day: the view from the water on the Opunohu Bay and its surroundings is absolutely breathtaking. One day we also rented a little motor boat (no license or high level skills required) from the owner, and that day was one of the highlights of our stay in Moorea. We swam with sting rays and sharks, snorkeled between motus (gorgeous!), had a Tahitian lunch at the Coco Beach Café on the motu. The views from the water were outstanding. The color of the water - beautiful! Just be careful with the sun: even despite the fact that we applied plenty of sunscreen (probably, not often enough), all 3 of us got badly sun burnt that day.

The kitchen was well stocked: all sorts of dishes, glasses, cups, utensils (including good quality knives), pots and frying pans -- plenty of everything. When you travel that far, you don’t know what to bring with you. I brought salt, pepper, some other seasonings, soy sauce, sugar, detergent for dishwasher and washer, but they actually had all that and more in the house. A good selection of spices, sauces, vinegars was there as well. Liquid soap was in all bathrooms and the kitchen. But you need to bring shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, etc. The villa included a dishwasher, washer and dryer -- very convenient.

We were grocery shopping in the Champion supermarket (a little after the ferry terminal) and Are in Pao Pao, bought some nice French pastry and baked goods in Café Carameline, fruits from local fruit stands. All fruits were absolutely delicious; pineapple and bananas smaller in size, but so tasty; mango and guava - the best; fried breadfruit was absolutely delicious. We brought vodka and rum with us (hard liquor is indeed substantially more expensive on the islands) and mixed them with local juices and other ingredients – got ourselves very nice cocktails.

Alix has a dog Pepsi, a puppy Ciboullete (not quite sure how to spell it) and a kitten Gabriel. They came to visit us often. Pepsi was very well behaved (never stepped inside the villa), the puppy was learning fast, and the cat was doing whatever she wanted to do. For us (pet owners/lovers) they were adorable additions and funny to watch, especially never stopping puppy: swimming, playing in sand and just frolicking all the time.

Mosquitoes were our concern, especially because of an ongoing at the time outbreak of chikungunya. We used coils (there was plenty of them in the villa) in evenings in the lanai, closed sliding doors during sunset and early mornings, used mosquito repellant. Overall, it did not bother us too much: we had a few mosquito bites, but no bad troubles.
We were lucky with the weather. Only one day it was raining almost all the time, but not too hard and with some breaks: we still squeezed some snorkeling. Most days were bright and sunny. A couple days were a little cloudy, which was absolutely fine for hiking.

Overall: Great place! Beautiful house and yard! Nice beach! Great, very convenient location! A lot of things to do on the Island. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. If we were to come back (I wish!), we would stay in the Villa Cook again. Thank you!

Thank you for your extensive review and glad you enjoyed it all! We welcome more than 150 families / friends / couples, every year so we are very focused (with 4 villas for rent in Robinson's Cove this actually became our full time job for the last 7 years!). Having our own onsite concierge also makes the whole difference... she will help you for any leisure activities you wish to do (and there are lots in Moorea), but also for restaurant suggestions, outings, and best tips such as the day boating on the lagoon :) Thank you so much for the time it took you to write this long review, you are welcome back anytime! Denis (owner) and Alix (on site manager), Robinson's Cove Villas.
