Doesn't look much from outside but do not be fooled. Quiet. Good walks nearby; close to Montrose for good eateries

Room Tip: Top floor room.

We stayed at The Roomies for 2 nights B & B. The accommodation is very nice, everything one could wish for at these prices. Feels like a secret place, hidden away. The bedrooms are beautifully fitted out, if a little small. The house is a pleasure to be in, lovely fittings. The adjoining sitting room is a joy, high ceilings, real character. Our hosts were very welcoming, the breakfast was one of the best we have had in Scotland, just wish our stay had been longer............we shall definitely return

wow - we came here as a last minute place to stay for one night in july, and it's the most gorgeous b&b i've ever stayed in i think! i was very surprised at the quality as a lot of b&b's are fairly basic and nothing special in this price range. the room was actually a bit cheaper than others similar in the area, but was even nicer than some hotels i've stayed in! there are only two rooms - both ensuite - but the term 'QUALITY NOT QUANTITY' came to mind immediately. the owners have certainly used the money to make the accommodation as beautiful and comfortable as possible for the few guests they have. when you read 'tea & coffee making facilities in room' you think 'great!' but this was something else - a beautiful living room area between the two rooms housed a small fridge with a large milk carton (not two tiny tubs as is usual, i mean how many cups of tea or coffee are you supposed to get with THAT?!) and a table crammed full of all the different kinds of tea you can imagine, coffee, biscuits, etc and even a bottle of water. All-in-all, i would highly recommend this b&b. it was quiet with heavy, dark curtains and no adjoining bedroom. the breakfast had the personal touch (we are veggies) and the proprietor and her dog very friendly! it's a teeny tiny bit awkward to get to the front door, but dont let that stop you - get to the roomies now! it's a charming house, full of character and way better than many of the others around :-))

Room Tip: ask for the room with the free standing bath :-)

My husband and I stayed at the The Roomies B & B in Ferryden, a small fishing village a couple miles south of Montrose, June 23 to 25th, 2011. I had wanted to stay in Ferryden before but there were no lodging facilities available. The property is located via a short narrow pathway leading off the main street. Caroline and Keith (and their elderly golden lab, Cassie) offered us a lovely, bright room with a comfortable bed and lovely bedding. Caroline and Keith occupy the ground floor, and the upper level consists of two bedrooms and a large, well furnished common room. We have frequently found B & B bedrooms to be relatively dark small rooms. The Roomies offers something so much better. I did not see the interior of the second bedroom, so I can't discuss it. Wish I had asked to see it.

I asked about the unusual name "The Roomies." Caroline explained that the building had been a meeting place for Ferryden labor groups in the 1930s and has traditionally been known locally by that name. She and Keith decided to retain the name when they purchased and remodeled the building in 2008. It had not served as a B & B before. As a result of the recent conversion, the furnishings and bathrooms are fresh, comfortable and modern.

If you stay at The Roomies, be sure to visit the bar in the Esk Hotel about 7:30 in the evening. The locals come in droves and make visitors feel so welcome. You really get a feeling for the community.

Caroline offers a complete cooked-to-order breakfast. Her oatmeal is one of the best I've tasted, and I'm fussy about oatmeal. If you like oatmeal, give hers a try. The only suggestion I might make has to do with coffee. Some of us Americans are used to a freshly brewed pot of coffee in the morning. The instant coffee, no matter how good, just doesn't taste as good.

Yes, we will definitely return. In fact, I can't imagine visiting the eastern coast of Scotland without staying at The Roomies.

Room Tip: The bedroom off the common room is bright, light and comfortable.

Wonderful accommodations at this B & B in the historic fishing village of Ferryden. Beautifully restored home, tall ceilings and impeccably clean. Hosts Caroline and Keith were so welcoming, exceptionally helpful and thoroughly exceeded my expectations. They were very knowledgeable about the history of the area and went out of their way to make me feel at home. The walk to Scurdy Ness Lighthouse is exhilerating and picturesque. I'm looking forward to my return!
