“Great sculpture trail & great fresh food!”
Reviewed January 10, 2012

Over 40 significant sculptures in a very easy and pleasant walk around beautiful gardens. Then finished off with a great Pinot Gris and one of the best food platters you'll find in the area. A great way to spend a couple of hours. Watch out if its overly hot as the glass house must be very warm in peak summer.

“Fun fusion of art, food and wine.”
Reviewed January 10, 2012

The sculpture trail has been developed alongside a boutique vineyard of 4 ½ hectares with a glass-house style restaurant 'floated' over a lake of water lilies. It's about a 1 hour drive north of Auckland around 65km and signposted on the wine trail from Warkworth - the I-site in the village is very helpful with maps, directions and local knowledge and is open 10am to 5pm. This winery and sculpture trail is open daily but many of them are not, so you need to check out each vineyard's opening times first. This is a good half day attraction, prefect for a civilised 'taste' lunch platter to share (NZ$16 each) and then walking off the Brick Bay vineyard's Pinot Gris on the sculpture trail - last admission 4pm. The trail (currently NZ$12 for adults, kids $8 and under 5 = free) is an easy 1 hour walk often on decking but not suitable for wheelchairs. It's an eclectic mix of art (for sale) that's often humorous and actually engaging for the kids too since much of it is kinetic. There's a chance also to walk through some lush forest (with sound effects). If that doesn't float their boat then there's an area of climbing frames and sandpits for the hyperactive and yet this place seems to have quite a becalming effect on them - and crayons for those rainy days. There's a file on each artist too in the light and airy restaurant along with a chance to wine sample, buy postcards, books and local produce. We came to the vineyard with little expectation yet left with a feeling of tranquil satisfaction - a lovely afternoon, yeah, a really cool place.

“Nice and relaxing walk”

If you have a day spend in Matakana Brick Bay Sculpture Trail is a good place to have lunch. Their cafe has great food and charming atmosphere. Sculpture walk guide you through piece of a native bush and farmland, where you can see sometimes quite amazing modernist and abstract sculptures, nicely fitted into surrounding landscape.
