“Perfectly relaxing cottage with lots to do nearby”
Reviewed September 20, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We are a young couple from Lancashire who were recommended to come here by friends to get away from work & take time out to relax. The cottage is beautifully furnished with lots of home comforts & when we walked in we were wowed!! The setting is perfect as it is so quiet you can hear the cows snoring yet 5 mins in the car is pretty Ernee where we could get morning croissants or a weekly shop. The master bedroom with en suite is stunning & the bed the comfiest we have ever slept in. When we did tear ourselves away from tranquility we enjoyed the stunningly beautiful timber buildings in Rennes, the views from the castle in Fougeres & the best boulangeries & choclatieres in Mayennes. There is so much to see in this region we will just have to come back & stay at the luxury of la cachette!

We very much appreciate you taking the time to review La Cachette. We're glad you found the decor and furniture to your liking... we spent a lot of time trying to find the best items to get the 'feel' right and also provide the 'cosy' atmosphere you mention. Thanks again.

“Lovely secluded spot close to lots to do though”
Reviewed August 21, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We have just returned from La Cachette. The property is in a small secluded hamlet next to a working farm. If you enjoy cows, sweetcorn, birds of prey and the farm dog then this is the place for you.

It is also close to the towns of Ernée, where there is a large Super U supermarket and St Denis de Gastines. There are a number of bars and restaurants in Ernée and a rather quaint boulangerie-pâttisserie in St Denis de Gastines. We sent a lovely early evening at the Fête des Moisson on August 15th (held every two years, next one is 2016) where we learn about historical farming methods and eat and drink until we are merry.

Further afield are the larger tourist towns of Fougères, Laval, Domfront, Vitré. The castle at Fougères is well worth a visit and the chateaux of Laval and Domfront are worth an hour or so. About 90 minutes drive takes you to Le Mont St Michel, one of the seven wonders of the western world.

The house itself has UK TV via an easy to use Freeview setup. The internet, after an initial confusion, is adequate if a little slow (but it appears this is common in France) and the layout of the sitting room and kitchen/diner area links beautifully in a coherent way making 'family' interaction easy and relaxed. Washer, microwave and a modern hob and oven make the mundane 'chores' of everyday living a little easier.

Many thanks for taking the time to give La Cachette a wonderful review. We're delighted you and your family had an enjoyable break and found so much to do in the immediate area and beyond - as well as meeting the lovely farm dog! It's nice to know you found the downstairs area ideal for family interaction. Your comments about the kitchen are also helpful; we have tried to equip it fully to make our guests' stay as relaxing as possible!

“A heavenly hideaway in the French Countryside - a real holiday HOME”
Reviewed August 12, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

La Cachette is a luxurious rental perfect for couples and families alike. From the tasteful decor and beautiful traditional furnishings to the fluffy white towels and top quality hairdryer; everything about this cottage makes for a very relaxing break .The cottage is deceptively spacious with a bathroom for each bedroom - great for getting ready in the mornings (and all three showers are superb) . Everything you need is to hand from sewing kit and string to ice blocks and cool bag! There are even English DVDs and family games.
The location is excellent for families with plenty to do - from the great swimming complex at Laval (L'Aquabulle) to the many local parks. Some have a beach, if you don't want to take the longer journey to the sea. We loved the Base de loisirs at La Ferte Mace. There is also a lovely English tea room (Time for Tea) nearby and the picturesque town of Bagnoles de l'Orne, which is great for traditional shopping and eating out. Plenty of large supermarkets nearby for food, essentials and fuel. Excellent communication from vendors throughout booking. A superb holiday location - we will definitely be recommending to friends.

“Beautiful , relaxing and veryenjoyable holiday”
Reviewed July 1, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We stayed here with our 2 young boys aged 3 and 8 during half term. We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. The directions provided by the owners were brilliant and the cottage was everything we could wish for and more. It was very comfortable and homely and the bed in the master bedroom was extremely comfy. The kitchen was very well equipped even providing us with picnic essentials for our daily trips out. It was much more spacious than we had anticipated and from the photographs provided. The locals were very friendly and the boys made friends with the local farm dog, Ende. There were plenty of places to eat out and to visit in the area, from museums to Chateaus to local markets. The children especially enjoyed our day out to Nantes. When we were not out and about sightseeing we chose to BBQ on the decking and soak up some of the evening sunshine. We will definitely return next year.
