“Best food for miles around”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

This is an excellent small restaurant set in the beautiful village of Verteuil. The owner is always attentive and the food is always well presented and cooked to our liking. What a delight to actually be able to chose what to have from the menu rather than be restricted to one dish simply because all the rest is inedible French guff.(Have you ever had Tete de veau or andoulette ,they are disgusting).

“A Special Eating Experience in Beautiful Village”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Spent two nights in Verteuil and having eaten here on the first night was compelled to repeat the experience on the second night. From passing through the doorway was made welcome to this charming restaurant, Relaxed at the bar with impressive menu and welcome by the owners. On the first night chose the salmon which was perfect, Accompanied by excellent wine, as you would expect and then experienced some very special sweets. On the second night was tempted to try the excellent haddock and hand made chips. Not very French but this was special. Colleagues had the steaks which were enormous and by all reports were excellent. Followed by excellent selection of cheeses. The night was completed with some special cognac and coffee. Also had our request for our own choice of music granted. Brilliant!

“Very good Chef”
Reviewed October 30, 2012 via mobile

Within an hour of our arrival into this tiny village, three locals insisted we dine at Porte Bleue. It was extolled as the best in town. We made a booking and embarked on a strange evening. This restaurant has so much potential, it made my head ache to consider how easily it could be transformed from something that is merely good to something great. The chef is fantastic. Our food was interesting, well cooked and very skillfully presented. The service was appalling. Amateurish, with grinding ex-pat English jocularity. The decor is a confused mash up. They have a captive clientele of English residents, so I doubt anything will change. It wasn't the French village experience we hoped for, but the good food almost outweighs the dodgy ambience.

Hi there i am sorry you felt your service was so poor and the decor was not to your liking, please enlighten me as to what the problem was, just for the record we have three chefs who work here
all trained in house to produce the standard of food we serve.
I am also sorry your" head ached" as to thinking how you could improve my business for me ,
i suggest you start a career in restaurants give it a few years then give me a call with your advice.
Many thanks

“good food authentic french restaurant”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

We were passing by and ate lunch, we had the set menu which was very reasonable, three good sized portions. The restaurant was full and had a great vibe I ate the goats cheese salad as a starter the chicken and had a lovely apple tarte for desert. It was a real find, we will definitely stop by on our way home to the UK.
