“Stop here for original homemade food”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

Excellent food with great service, wonderful view. The three times we've been there we've been lucky enough to sit outside in nice weather. Service is friendly and just attentive enough, though one should be prepared to allow time for food preparation when busy. I've had the curry chicken croissant, beef lasagna, and spicy mexican turnover. All were very good. Both the house and caesar salads were nice portions and not over dressed. Raspberry cheesecake was also excellent, though it is a bit pricey (but for me, worth it).

“Worth the trip from New York”
Reviewed August 4, 2012

Stopped for lunch while visiting family near Thunder Bay. Chic cottage decor with view of a quintessentially Canadian lake. Had beef lasagna and spinach ricotta strudal, both served with Caesar salad and rolls. Everything was delicious, nicely presented, and entirely homemade. Desert was an impeccable peach cheesecake. Friendly, authentic service.

Great food in a quaint atmosphere. An oasis of tranquility in northern Ontario. A huge improvement over truck stop food that is typical of highway 11/17. Highly recommended and definitely worth the short drive off the main road.

“Hidden Gem”

If you're near Thunder Bay, Ontario, be sure to visit Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, and coming or going, stop to eat at Karen's Kountry Kitchen in Pass Lake. Karen remodeled the old station master's home at this stop on the railroad and turned it into a delightful little restaurant. She's open from 12-7 and practically everything she serves is homemade. We had a bacon quiche and salad that were delicious, accompanied by homemade dinner rolls that brought back memories of the yeasty rolls my aunts used to make. Delightful! Apricot cheesecake for dessert was wonderful too.

“Undiscovered, scenic, fresh, delicious”
Reviewed September 20, 2011

East of Thunder Bay, off the beaten path, enroute to Silver Islet, L. Superior, and Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, is a surprising chef-owner restaurant located on Pass Lake. The meals are fresh and well prepared, with a nice variety on the menu. The building is a converted railroad station, with a great deck view of Pass Lake that is far more than 'passable'. The owner is pleasingly conversant, although when the six of us ate there it was well after the lunch rush. (Actually, this was the second time we ate there; a couple of years ago during lunch it was quite busy.) Just a great place to eat when you're doing a day trip to Silver Islet / Sleeping Giant Provincial Park.
