“Ideal base for French Holiday”

I travelled to Nay with 12 friends as we were competing in the L'Etape de Tour 2012 from Pau to Bagners de Luchon. Yolanda and Tony couldn't have helped more and went well beyond the call of duty before during and after our visit.
The premises is excellent with everything you could want for a holiday, with all amenities provided. We had space to do our own thing and relax after the exertions of the event, and the swimming pool came in very handy.
When needed Yolanda nad Tony were on hand to provide local info which was invaluable.
I'd come back without hesitation

“Relaxing and comfortable house in the South of France”
Reviewed July 24, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

I and 13 friends stayed here when we cycled a stage of the Tour De France in July 2012. We all loved the house. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the location is quiet and peaceful. Yolanda and Tony were very considerate and helpful hosts, and were very accomodating to a group of 14 Irishmen and their 14 bikes! While Nay is a small town, everything one might need is easily accessible, with a large supermarket and excellent bakery in walking distance. Also, the lovely city of Pau is a short drive away. I'd highly recommend Maison Berchon to travellers looking for a break to the lovely French countryside.

Management Response

Thank you so much for this review. We were delighted to welcome you all to Nay – especially as the group was cycling L’Etape de Pau for charity. It’s worth clarifying that half the group stayed in Maison Berchon as its maximum capacity is eight people. Exceptionally, we put up the other half in our home next door so that the group could be together and easily organise their cycling and other activities.

“Luxury villa at the foot of the Pyrenees”
Reviewed November 2, 2011 for a stay in October 2011

We expected a good-sized villa with some extras (the games room, etc) but what we hadnt expected was the consistent quality of everything the owners had put in - from bathrooms that wouldnt be out of place in a 4-5 star hotel through to a superbly equipped kitchen. Its really first class for a holiday let, and we hope to make it down next summer to try the great-looking pool as well as the house.

Tony and Yolande couldnt have been more welcoming and have the sensitivity to be there when you need them and not there when you dont! The thoughtful welcome basked included English necessities (proper tea!) as well as delicious local cheese and fish soup (and a nice bottle of wine.) Best of all was delicious bread from the local boulangerie (ask for directions, its only 2-3 minutes walk)

Nay itself is a smallish town but has the shops and bars you need, a very good restaurant and an interesting market (twice a week) which has everything you'd expect, including live chickens. We also explored local towns like Pau (stunning) and Lourdes (a weird crossover between religion and commercialism, but an essential trip all the same). A highlight was the trip up into the Pyrenees which gives an insight into what the Tour de France cyclists put themselves through - truly extraordinary.

Overall thoroughly recommended and we hope to return next summer with our teenaged children

“Perfect place to explore the Pyrenees”

From the moment we arrived, we felt at home in this beautifully renovated property -- not least because of the fresh bread, English tea, cheese and other delicious essentials that were waiting for us. As we didn't arrive until 8pm local time, this 'welcome hamper' was greatly appreciated as it meant we didn't have to go straight out again to find food. The property itself is charming and full of character but also has all the comforts and conveniences of a well-equipped modern holiday home. We didn't do much cooking during our stay, preferring to eat out, but as far as I could see it had everything you might need for diy catering. Another big plus is the wonderful patisserie that is just a couple of minutes' walk away -- a must for your daily breakfast croissants and baguette. Nay is a pleasant but not terribly exciting town with several restaurants and bars, most notably the new and rather chic St Georges restaurant. It also boasts a Museum of the Beret. Although it doesn't have a lot ot offer in terms of tourist attractions, it does make an excellent base for exploring this beautiful part of France. Highlights for us were the elegant city of Pau, the tour of the nearby Betharram caves (which includes a boat and train ride) and, of course, the spectacular Pyrenees mountains themselves, which you can see from several of the gite's windows. All in all, Maison Berchon is a great place for sight-seeing, walking or just relaxing and unwinding in wonderfully peaceful surroundings.

“Perfect holiday base in beautiful Pyrenees”

My family of 5 stayed in beautiful Maison Berchon for a week in July. The house is fantastic with all the facilities, comfort and a lot of space, both inside and outside. It is a perfect base for a hike in the Pyrenees, cycling the cols, visiting the beautiful castles or just staying at the pool. We had a fantastic stay.
