“Something Different”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

My darling wife remembers the bike ride; it was not on our agenda for this short stay break in the heart of the amazing Czech Republic's South Bohemia, but it remains one of the most memorable days of many holiday vacations we have spent together in many different parts of the world. Why? Because for once we were totally outside of our normal 'connected' way of vacationing, exploring a different leisure agenda than usual, and that's what Svata Katerina Resort gives you, something different. In the end we were charmed by the rusticity of the Resort and the hospitality of the staff. The quirkiness of our suite - fabulous bed and bathroom BTW - the range of activities available and the excellent restaurant made an altogether super-relaxing alternative leisure opportunity. So if you are looking for something different I can recommend this place. And the bike ride? A golden sunny afternoon like two teenagers, rediscovering a simple, more relaxing and disconnected way to be together in the secret heart of Europe; truly back in time and magical.

We made a booking for the last minute discounted offer based on the recomendation of our friends. Hotel is located in the wonderfull location. Somebody could call it in the middle of nowhere, but the nature and forests around are the advantage of this resort. They are possitioning themself like "wellness" resort, but the true is - there is no special food or restaurant menu designed for healthy gurmets. No special food corner for vegans or vegetarians. Breakfast with averadge or poor quality of ham or cheese - definitally there you cannot expect premium choice of products. I would recomend to put more focus to the variety of their buffet.

There was excelent service provided by massagers and the receptionist in the spa.reception. We were happy to make our wellness program in advance, so we had a convinient time of all procedures booked before our arrival. Also the booking service and customer care before arrival was excelent.

I can agree with the complaints to the concept of "park and ride to our resort via our shuttle" as the only travel option to get to the resort. This distance parking can be much closer. Also the small option what to choise at the restaurant menu can be compenzated by visiting deliciouse "Bistrot de Papa" - small cafe and restaurant with variety of caces and local food and french wines - located in the Pocatky at the main square. This is a place you have to visit for lunch or diner. Wery affordable prices with excelent french chef de cuisine living in the Czech Republic with his wife. This Bistro make my day.

Room Tip: Stay in the main buiding. Visit a restaurant Bistro de Papa in Pocatky.

Hotel has been announced as a luxury wellness property. Well - it is really far from beeing luxury. Hotel rooms are average (rebuilded old buildings), while wellness is nice.
What I really did not like was hotel concept - park your car far from our property, we will drive you in.....and charge you for everything you can immagine.....high prices in the restaurant /why should average restaurant in the middle of nowhere be price-comparable to expensive Prague restaurant?/, charge for wellness, horse riding (actually 20 minutes walk), or any other activity.....Owners should really think in longer terms.....yes, you brought me in, I spent about 4000 CZK per day just for food and activity......but I will, as many others, not come back. There is no balance between what I paid and what I got.....
Stayed December 2013, couple. Very intensive travellers.

I did not understand why there is a parking area 10 minutes from the hotel and you have to go there with the local shuttle bus ? There is a huge space in front of the hotel, which could be used as a parking lot. Rooms are ok, but very cold, you have to have your heat generators on full throttle during the winter, otherwise you will be freezing. Poor isolation. Meels fine, service ok, spa good. The best is outside jaccuzzi, with some drinks. Only one sauna and one steam, I expected more.

My wife took me on a weekend retreat there. We stayed in the main hotel building, overlooking the "pond". The room was very nice with minimalistic design and super-clean. They do not have TVs in the rooms, on purpose. Also, guest cars are not permitted on premises.
Pros: calm environment in the woods. Slept like a baby. Spa is very nice and convenient (not swimming pool though). Everyone on staff (with exception of head waiter) was always very pleasant to deal with and helpful. There's a ton of activities to do, from workout sessions, massage, horse riding, golf driving range to dogsled ride :-)
Cons: The only food option is the restaurant. The quality does not match the price and the selection is narrow and focused on heavy, full size meals. I would need some (healthy) snacking options during the day (fruit bar?)

All in all, it was money well spent and I really got to relax and recharge.

Room Tip: It is worth spending extra to stay in the main building. "Gymnasion" building looks like a...

like stepping back in time to a place in CZ were food was served cold, beer served warm and when you told the staff they just smiled and shrugged shoulders. did not have one decent meal during the time spent here, food constantly delivered cold.

As hotel is renovated old style spa, and they just seem to have left layout in rooms pretty much as was, it isnt great for sleeping in. the curtains are see through (no blinds!!) and dont coer whole window so get ready to get up with the sun. Lamps and lights are very weak, so reading in bed isnt much of an option.

Regarding their "eco-rule" to park in town and take shuttle, dont bother as when you arive there, cars are everywhere, save yourself time and just drive there instead.

Overall very disappointing, trying to present as exclusive resort when its really just a basically redecorated old resort run poorly.

We spent with my wife a romantic weekend in a hotel surrounded by woods. We wanted to rest during the weekend unfortunately our room was directly above the terrace with restaurant. On the first day there was a wedding celebration on the terrace which finished only after our intervention at the reception at 1:30 am. On the second night (despite assurances that there is no celebration planned) the service on the restaurant terrace finished after midnight. Rooms in the hotel have no air conditioning and unfortunately the nights during the weekend were very hot and it was impossible to sleep with closed windows. The overall quality of the hotel and the service does not match the prices. The spa is very small – there is 1 sauna in operation, 2 steam baths and 1 whirlpool – we were happy that during the weekend there were not so many people using the opportunity of visiting the spa.

Room Tip: choose accommodation with windows to the side away from the terrace restaurant
