We stayed here for 6 nights , 2 adults and 2 kids.
The family is great and we had a wonderful time.
Breakfast was great, service and all what we requested was amazing.
Location is 20 min from freiburg and in the center and near all the spots in the Black Forest.
Staufen itself is amazing, nice little place worth exploring.
Very recommended.

My adult daughter & I spent 3 great nights at Hotel Die Krone in Staufen, Germany. From the moment we were greeted by Herr Lahn, we experienced a most relaxed, comfortable stay in lovely Staufen. Our ensuite room was of good size, held a mini fridge with variety of thirst quenchers, and had a wonderful balcony with perfect views of the castle atop a hillside of vineyards. From our room, we witnessed beautiful sunsets all three evenings. Die Krone is located on the 'main drag' of Staufen therefore is just steps away from shopping, eating or just enjoying Staufen. Breakfast was typical German continental fare served in a warm & cozy dining room. Mr. & Mrs. Lahn were wonderful hosts. Parking is available though somewhat limited. If you are driving a larger vehicle, free parking areas are located a few blocks away - however you can drive to the hotel (around the pedestrian zone sign) to load and unload luggage should you need to park away from the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony or on the west for views of the castle. Rooms facing the west are off...

We had a long and lost drive through the beautiful Black Forest, and stopped a few times to call Hotel Die Krone to tell them we'd be late. When we finally arrived we felt like Grandma had been waiting for us: sympathetic to our tiredness, ready to give us a hearty meal, happy to see the kids. The room was cozy and clean, the restaurant was even more homey. Breakfast was gorgeous and plentiful. But most of all, Kurt was a godsend with directions, translations, sympathy and good advice. Great recommendation, Rick Steves! The town is charming and we were lucky enough to be there on market day.

This Bed and Breakfast, above a restaurant in Staufen, was very convienient as well as being very clean. We were unable to interact much with the owner as he was very busy running the restaurant, but we did interact with his son who was very helpful to us with our train travels. He spoke English very well. All in all the rooms were great, breakfast delicious, and location was easily accessible to the train station.

We visited the Black Forest and used "The Crown" as our jumping off point thanks to the reviews here and Rick Steves. None of you were wrong! The views were great from the room, the food was excellent, our dog was allowed to be there with us, and the staff was awesome. We fell in love with Staufen, and vowed to return. If you are driving, enter the restricted zone (we were a bit leery to drive into town) and they will show you where to park.

The history of this town is incredible, so make sure you reserve time to tour the town at length. Read up on Dr. Faust before getting here too!

Realized that I had posted pictures long long ago but never wrote a review. Stay 1 night - we were in Europe on business and added a few days to the trip to drive around a bit. Found the hotel online & called for a room - no problem, come on down! VERY glad we did. Lovely room, super nice people. Only thing that I'd change is the ridiculously small shower. Euro bathrooms are small, but this shower was 1/2 the size of a phone booth. Usable of course, just really small (your elbows hit the sides while washing your hair kind of small).
Other than that - HIGHLY recommend - convenient to the beautiful little town of Staufen, nice inn-keepers, great breakfast, lovely clean comfortable room, comfy bed. We would gladly return!

We stayed here during the Iceland Vocano eruption in April 2011 and ended up in Staufen because it was out of the way and away from the travel craziness during that time. The room had a fantastic view of the vineyards and castle ruins from the balcony, so make sure you ask for that. Satufen has a municipal internet and the staff had complimentary cards available. The hotel restaurant was good, but a little pricey. Actually, everything was a little pricey in Staufen. Would recommend.
