The Loch Leven Hotel was in an excellent location for us, travelling north to Skye from our home in Cumbria. Very welcoming staff, stunning views from the front of house and also very dog friendly, which suited us well as we travel with our two golden retrievers. Good walk by the loch side to exercise them and to take in the surrounding scenery. Dinner was excellent, as was breakfast.
As regards the previous comment, we also stayed in Room 8. I agree the rooms at the back are not as scenic as the ones overlooking the loch side, but we only used it for sleeping as we sat in the residents lounge with our dogs after dinner. We also discovered that the kitchen fan was incredibly noisy outside our bedroom window once we retired for the night, so my husband popped downstairs to ask them to turn it off. The kitchen staff had finished for the night and obviously the last out had inadvertently left it on. It was turned off straight away, problem solved and we enjoyed a quiet, comfortable and peaceful night !

Room Tip: If you are staying more than one night, ask for a loch side room if you want to enjoy the same lovel...

Although an excellent location with lovely views, don't stay in room 8. It was the last room available ! It is at the back by the kitchen which has a fan continually working through the night!!. As it was very hot our window was necessary to be open - the fan disturbed our sleep, uncomfortable bed. Had no problem with the food and service in the restaurant. Sadly we left the hotel a day earlier to find somewhere quiet and comfortable without a fan running continuously. This is an honest review.
Value for money - not really, very disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask where the rooms are, creaky floor boards too, especially when there are children staying in the...

From the road the Loch Leven Hotel does not look like much but inside it is full of character and characters, the dog will make friends whether you want to or not. There are only 12 rooms and are on the small side but for a short break will more than suffice. The surprise was the food with a eclectic mix of traditional Scottish and Asian styles sometimes mixed together. The place is well located for walkers and fishing types but will suit those just looking for a quite short break. Don't expect lots of sun the hotel is very close to Glen Coe one of the wettest places in Scotland, but has one of the most dramatic sceneries in the world wet or sunny.

Room Tip: Try to get a loch view the rooms at the back look out onto the car park.

I have been coming here every few years for over 20 years and it has never failed to be a good place for a drink and pub food. This time I hadn't been for 8 years and it is the best ever. A lot better than pub grub at good prices, we had a very good meal. At least 2 local real ales. We also found the bar staff and servers to be very friendly and they were quick and efficient. Oh and if you haven't stayed in this area North Ballahulish is a great place to stop off.

We didn't stay at this hotel but we did eat in the restaurant there last night. The food and service was very good despite the hotel being under extreme pressure after a road accident closed the road A82. The staff were very welcoming and although under a lot of pressure due to huge numbers of people looking for food and drinks were very professional and friendly throughout. They kept the stranded motorists updated as to the propects of the road reopening through regular contact with local police. Well done to everyone at this lovely lakeside hotel.

Just to add to the mixed reviews this place seems to attract - we stayed locally at Loch Leven Chalets and the owners mentioned this place to us for food. We went on two evenings and enjoyed the food very much. Its not pretentious or pretending to be luxurious its just good honest food in beautiful surroundings and we had no problems with the staff who were very courteous. We did have a bit of a wait for our mains on the second evening but the manager did come to our table and apologise, and we didnt have a problem with that. Dont be put off by the adverse reviews give it a try!

We recently stayed in this area at a hotel that had vacation homes and a hotel but felt that their food prices were a bit high. We hopped in our rental car and checked out the area (which is phenomenally beautiful) and found the Loch Leven Hotel. We had a wonderful meal in their pub of fish and chips and some of the best sticky toffee pudding ever ! The meal was nicely prepared, the food was hot and the view from the room off the back of the pub was just picture perfect. Later when we taking care of the bill we had a lovely chat with the owners who were so pleasant and nice to talk to. We spent almost 3 weeks touring the UK and this meal and location were a highpoint on our trip. Sometimes it's not always about how fancy a place is - but about the entire experience and your lasting impression of an area of the world you haven't explored. The Loch Leven hotel definitely made our evening a wonderful one.
