“Great alternative to Wanaka/Queenstown areas”
Reviewed April 30, 2014

My wife and I needed a place to stay for an early excursion in nearby Wanaka. We were blown away by the beauty of the area, the friendliness of the staff, and the quality of the campsites and facilities. Though we were only at the campground for roughly 15 hours (8 of which was spent sleeping), our brief use of the facilities on site were enough to conclude that this holiday park is a real gem.

I highly recommend that individuals traveling to the Wanaka area consider staying at this Holiday Park instead of in Wanaka or Queenstown. It is quieter than Wanaka and the distance from the activities in Wanaka is far less than traveling from Queenstown. Save time, money, and sanity!

Arriving at a holiday park between a mountain and a lake you know its going to be beautiful! The areas are sheltered which is great for tents in particular. The facitlies are awesome, showers lovely and warm, and good pressure. The toilets are, as all outside toilets are, which means they do have some insects but nothing untoward only moths and midges. They are clean and have toilet roll. The sinks are excellent and each has a mirror. The kitchen is great with a microwave, oven, cooktop, toaster and kettle. With a fridge to place food stuffs (although labelling is advised!). There is a table and chairs and two sinks, with a hot water boiler too. So plenty of utilities to use if needed. There are two blocks with toilets and kitchen, we were at the back one so this is the one I am reviewing! Mike is great, having a nice manner, but also a sense of humour. Very helpful and is a font of knowledge in regards to the area, and all the activities you can do and how to go about doing them. For example we wanted to hire his rods to fish, but we needed a licence first and he was able to show us where to go to get a day licence so we could hire them out and enjoy a days fishing at the lake. The campsite is great, everyone is friendly and there is not really a bad thing I can say about it! We hope this helps future campers, and that they get to enjoy this gorgeous piece of paradise!

Wow! What a gem! From the moment we entered this park we were so impressed. Most definitely a family friendly holiday park. The cute retro bach suited us perfectly and we enjoyed listening to the NZ birdsong. Can't wait to come back again! Thank you.

We stayed in the lakeside cabin, it was just big enough to fit a double bed and a beer fridge and you need to walk to the loo - but its right on the lake, and we slept with the door open and the water sounded like it was lapping the deck, and the morning view was amazing!
The hosts were good kiwi hosts, friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating
We will be back, but next time for a little longer

We chose this spot over places at Lake Wanaka and Queenstown because reviewers had said it was less busy. Right on the beautiful waters of Lake Hawea, this is a pretty spot with quite a bit of room for tenters. The main problem during our visit was the relentless wind, about which the owners of course could do nothing, and which would have been experienced in all nearby locations as well. The absolute best thing about this holiday park is Mike, who is friendly beyond all expectations and even smoked a trout for us, just because we happened to ask, at just the right moment, what a smoked trout tastes like! Oh, was it delicious. Six stars for Mike!

Previous weeks travelling had used hotels and motels but running out of time to book as we approached Queenstown then noticed lake side camp site with lodges near to where we were heading. Phoned from Fox Glacier and Mike answered. Yes! Cabin available. He also asked us to buy a Salmon at a fish farm we passed, about 50 miles on our way. Reason he suggested was that he would cook our tea for us when we arrived! Can't say fairer than that could one? Duly arrived at his camp site... settled into our cabin at a very cheap £65 for a night and in an idyllic lakeside setting. Good as gold Mike BBQ'd our salmon. Filleted, rubbed down with rock salt and sugar crystals, baked in an outdoor oven on whiskey flavoured chips...delicious. A great little site with plenty of room amongst the trees and alongside the lake . Would recommend this site to all campers/tenters/tourists all...probably the best site in New Zealand.

Booked for one night but booked a 2nd night after seeing the view from their website. Stayed in the little cabin right on the lake front and perfect. Some people won't like it but we really enjoyed it. Good clean toilet block and pleasant drive to Wanaka. Used the park as our base while we drove round. Cabin is warm, comfortable and clean. Right on the water front.

Room Tip: Ask for 'Director's cabin' on water front.
