We give Sea View Studios our best recommendations. The price is okay, the family studio was great, the position couldn't be better to the beach - and Dimitra and Andreas really made an effort to make us feel welcome.

My boyfriend and I began our island hopping expedition on the Island of Naxos. A 5 hour ferry from Athens brings to you to the largest island in the Cyclades and into the port at Naxos Town. We had not booked any accommodation for our trip and had planned simply to 'fly by the seat of our pants'. This approach is most certainly risky, but we never had a back experience doing it this way. On our arrival, the port was bustling with hundreds of hotel representatives standing in the parking lot to greet the new arrivals with placards advertising their hotel. We had a momentary panic as we thought they would begin jostling and arguing for our attention and I am sure that everyone new to the islands and this way of 'booking' your hotel had the sense, But they simply stand politely and smile and are not forceful in anyway. The key, if you want to do this, is to be quick. Know the area of the island in which you want to stay, find it on the placards and approach the rep. The reps literally only stand there for about 15 minutes, so if you too slow you will find yourself left standing alone in the parking lot with no accommodation, which means you have to find the nearest tourist info and find your place to stay that way.

The best part is that you can haggle with the rep for the price of your room and they will then drive you to the accommodation - saving you a long bus ride or taxi journey.

I had done some research prior to coming to Naxos and I had a clear idea of where I wanted to stay. I wanted to be in Agia Anna. This resort town lies on the West coast and boasts the most pristine beaches, great restaurants and relaxed vibe. The main resort town on the island is Agios Georgios. I am quite thankful we didnt end up there. It is famous for windsurfing and therefore its wind.

Confronted with the placards, I took a deep breath and was on my way to approach a rep for the hotel Sea View Studios, before I could even take a step, Yannis Dimitrokallis approached us - the Actual Owner of the hotel - and that was it, our adventure began. In his clapped out old volkswagen minivan he drove at speed through the island - pointing out the sites along the way - and then deposited us happily in our studio room.

the rooms are basic, but have air-conditioning, balconies and little kitchenettes and a fridge to keep your all important beers cold in. The beach is literally a 45 second walk and the bus stop is just outside the mini supermarket which again is about a 30 second walk. Agia Anna has a great selection of restaurants and Tavernas - only 2 bars though, but they are great.

we spent 3 nights at Sea view and it was magic - a great way to start a holiday and truly unwind. Yannis and his wife were incredibly welcoming and, on the day we checked out, Yannis even let us use a spare room to shower and get dressed in before driving us back to the port to catch our late afternoon ferry.

I cannot wait to go back and 'hint', studio apartments are definitely the best option when staying on the islands.
