“Great food in a great setting.”

I visited here with friends after we'd been to the rugby at Twickenham & it was spot on. I've been to their Tower Bridge & Piccadilly restaurants & to be honest the service in these 2 was appalling so much so we had the drinks given to us in the Piccadilly venue & believe me it was an expensive bar tab as there were 10 of us.

This place is situated right on the towpath of the Thames in an old boat house, I think, & though it was busy service, both at the bar & the table, were great.

As usual the food was first class & there was plenty of it. It's not the cheapest place you'll ever eat in but you'll get a quality meal with first class surroundings & service.

“Average at best. ”

Went to Gaucho this evening with 6 family members for a birthday dinner.
Reservation was for 21:30 but we were not seated until 21:55. During the wait there was not much in the way of updates as to when the table would be ready, or even the slightest notion of making us feel comfortable whilst waiting. The offer of a complimentary drink for the long delay would have gone a long way!

Once finally seated at the table, service was slow to say the least. It took quite a while for the wine order to be taken and had to ask for menus.

Starters were satisfactory. The scallop special probably the best from the selection ordered.

Steaks were dissapointing all round! Non had a very good chat on them and whilst well cooked the plates were so cold that within minutes of arriving at the table the steaks were cold. Amateur mistake that I would not have expected from Gaucho.

No dessert except for a couple of ice creams and the dulce de leche cheesecake, which I am afraid to say was the best dish of the evening!

Overall, I'm sure there has to be a better option for steak in Richmond.

Besides poor service the price point is completely off. Central London prices without the service levels to back it up. Dissapointing.

“Excellent meal and great atmosphere.”

Not booking ahead and it being a Saturday night ,we had to wait for over an hour to get a table. A bottle of Malbec smoothed over the wait at the bar and we eventually sat down at 22.00hrs.You expect great steaks at an Argentinian restaurant and we certainly were not disappointed, but what impressed most was the quality of the side dishes, the tuna salad, chorizo platter and selection of cheeses at the end were exceptional. Add to this, the great wine list, superb knowledgeable service from both waiter and maitre´d , stylish decor, vibrant atmosphere and it was pretty much the perfect meal. Just remember to book in advance!

“Gaucho Restaurant, Richmond TW”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

This well known 'steak' house was picked for a family birthday celebration. Sadly, the earliest booking was for 21.30. We arrived at 21.25 but was told that the table was not ready. In fact the allocated table was seen to be just ordering dessert as well as extra bottles of wine.
Although offered a glass of wine, there was no room at the 'bar' to sit. We got several 'stories' as to what was happening......we eventually sat down at a table at 22.00, getting our main course at 22.45! This did aggravate the group, who had travelled a distance. There were other customers in the same situation....one couple had been waiting over an hour but were given a bottle of champagne.....a little drunk by the time they left!!!!!
However, the food and service was worth waiting for, as was the wine. In the end, as the steaks (and monkfish) were excellent, everyone did have a good night and was worth the aggro. One of the managers did make a generous gesture in view of the hassle....perhaps a regular problem here as we have experienced this on our last visit, admittedly, some years previously.
We would certainly recommend this Argentinian steak house but they need to address the 'bar area', more space between tables, and a more reliable booking system as if one is paying these prices, one does not want to be hurried out or delayed in sitting down!!!

Great food and a nice vibrant atmosphere. We had a chorizo platter to share first of all which was great followed by superb steaks and some interesting side dishes. Nice Argentinian wine list. All together a great evening.
