I phoned and booked for a ladies Tea for four from Ireland. We were placed in a table by the door with someone sitting chatting in the door and two men talking on the balcony. Your table is in the bar area which is busy and noisy in the afternoon anyway! I would not recommend this venue for tea. We loved the walk along the river outside this Hotel.

Our room was pleasantly small and stuffy. Fortunately opening a window wasn't an option since our room overlooked the Petersham road. The manager did offer to switch rooms - remarkably he had managed to find something even smaller. In the end we declined the kind offer of extra stairs and less space. We had dinner, it was perfectly nice and passed without incident. Breakfast, well, it's hard to say. There was incident, but little in the way of actual food. A single waitress spent most of her time in the kitchen. She appeared frightened of the guests and genuinely puzzled by our continuous requests for food. It was later explained that she was a trainee and that due to someone or other not turning up she had been left to manage on her own. I suggested that this was probably a little unfair on her and perhaps not really in keeping with the type of establishment Bingham's purports to be. And before you go thinking that I'm one of those TripAdvisor types who complains about every little thing, every table had to ask for their order several times over. Eventually, after 45 minutes of waiting, my breakfast did not arrive. Apparently my order hadn't been put through. Although an apology was made it was made as such a rate of knots that I could barely understand what was being said. It did offer a rather nice counterpoint to the speed of the service that morning but, in truth, did little to fill me up. On reflection I think leaving a twelve year old boy in charge of the hotel might have been a mistake. My total bill for the night came to around £316. All in all I was left wondering if there might be a reason the glowing write ups on their website are dated 2010. As I left I was assured that someone would be in touch to discuss our disappointment. As yet, not a peep.

We stayed overnight at the Bingham and walked to and from Twickenham along the lovely Thames towpath, nice walk and with more time there are numerous other walks to enjoy.
The hotel is Old in style (wonky floorboards in corridors and windy stairs) but very well decorated in the rooms especially.
We found the staff polite and helpfull and the room to be lovely.
Breakfast was somewhat chaotic with high numbers of people at the time that we were there, but the food was well prepared and presented, with polite staff.
Our score of very good is based on experience of numerous hotels over the years, throughout Europe.

Room Tip: The river view and gardens are lovely

The Bingham promised so much but delivered little. Staff were helpful but seemed confused and reminded us a few times of Fawlty Towers! Saturday afternoon with a concert to attend we wished to have bar food in the bar. This was full and it was inconvenient (for the staff) to seat us in the next door restaurant. We did eventually settle down to a bar meal in the restaurant and its worth mentioning that although no one seemed to know what was on the menu the food was superb.

Next morning at breakfast was farcical. No cutlery, crockery or food even. We had to ask for all of these several times, waiting... waiting. Many staff running around but we were not sure what they were doing and I'm not sure some of them knew either. We did complain at checkout and they agreed to remove the breakfast charge.

We did try to book parking at the hotel (£10 per day) however this was fully booked. Staff provided us with alternatives, the nearest being the Richmond NCP 15 mins walk away. Was rather galling to look out our window through the stay which overlooked the hotel's half empty car park. Don't bring the car!

On the plus side our room was compact but lovely. Not very private with an inch gap under the door but otherwise nice. The setting of the hotel is also lovely. Worth the price? No. Would I recommend? No way.

For my Anniversary my husband treated me to 2 nights in the Bingham.. On arrival i had a wonderful welcome from reception who made my day really special. When we arrived into the beautiful room they had put fruit and chocolate to wish us both a happy anniversary.. We dinned in the hotel restaurant and the food was amazing.. Staff very jolly and courteous which gave us such a lovely anniversary experience. The french general manager even come over and personally congratulated us which we both thought was really sweet. I would highly recommend this hotel not only because its luxurious but for its beautiful location and wonderful staff and family feel.
